2 After becoming comfortable in a sexual relationship, couples often times decide to become more adventurous. The most common avenue is to try kinky sex, rough sex or correctly called, S&M (sadomasochism). The roots of this term come from: Sadism means to enjoy inflicting pain and Masochism, meaning to enjoy pain being inflicted on oneself. Sadomasochism is most simply defined as the eroticizing of pain during sexual intercourse. If you have never indulged in S&M play before, you re likely thinking to yourself: What the Fuck? Why would anyone enjoy being hurt or hurting their partner during sex?

3 The answer to this question is simple. Pain, releases endorphins, the body chemical compound connected to pleasure and enjoyment. The masochist recognizes that being spanked is slightly painful, but he or she mostly feels enhanced desire, additional sexual arousal and stronger orgasms. However, unlike other types of sexual intimacy, sadomasochism can be dangerous since it involves creating activities that intentionally create ranges of pain. Playing with pain involves understanding the pain process and pain management. Otherwise You can cause bodily harm or death. If you are going to use SM as sex enhancer you will have to learn to keep this type of play between the white lines.

7 Pain Processing Endorphins: Endorphins are the body s natural opiates. They are designed to relieve pain and enhance pleasure. Simple exercise can release endorphins into your brain that leads to feelings of happiness, even euphoria. At least 20 types of endorphins have been demonstrated in humans and one kind, the betaendorphins, are as strong as morphine. Endorphin release varies among individuals. This means that two people who exercise at the same level or suffer the same degree of pain will not necessarily produce similar levels of endorphins.

8 Pain Processing Primary Body Chemicals Enkephalin Serotonin Enkephalin: is a naturally occurring potent painkiller released by central nervous system. Epinephrine (Adrenalin) Norepinephrine Dopamine It is the body s morphine. Enkephalin accounts for the euphoria experienced by long-distance runners Serotonin: is a body chemical responsible for maintaining mood balance. Serotonin affects mood and social behavior, appetite and digestion, sleep, memory and sexual desire and function.

9 Pain Processing Dopamine: is naturally produced by your brain and makes you feel good and have self confidence. Epinephrine (Adrenalin) Enkephalin Norepinephrine Serotonin Dopamine Dopamine is also the brain's the pleasure-reward system is activated during sex and by pain in some people. It creates the state of ecstasy and calms. It is also engaged in our ability of self control and affects our addictions.

10 Pain Processing Epinephrine (Adrenalin) Enkephalin Serotonin Dopamine Norepinephrine and Epinephrine (Two Components of the Flight and Flight Response) Norepinephrine Norepinephrine is a neurotransmitter and hormone. When norepinephrine is released in the body it: Raises the heart rate Norepinephrine Causes glucose to be released as energy and blood to flow to the muscles.

11 Pain Processing Epinephrine (Adrenalin) Enkephalin Serotonin Dopamine Norepinephrine and Epinephrine (Two Components of the Flight and Flight Response) Epinephrine is also known as adrenaline. Epinephrine is a hormone and neurotransmitter transferred that creates a fight-or-flight response in the body. It is: Norepinephrine Present naturally in the adrenal glands. Raises the heart rate Constricts blood vessels Dilates pupils and suppresses the immune system.

12 Pain Management Pain Processing vs Pain Management Techniques Pain management is different from pain processing in that management techniques are how we learn to deal with pain; the natural processes are what are available to us at birth. ~ lunakm (Internet Personality) Pain Management Techniques was brought to us by Joseph Bean in a book called: LeatherSex Breath Fantasy Visualization Storage

13 Pain Management Breath Women in labor who are asked to breathe through the pain aren t doing it just to distract themselves. It s been a long-known medical tactic that breathing rhythmically helps to lessen pain. The number of breaths per minute decreased pain. The average number of breaths per minute is 12 to 18, and slowing down to six had a significant effect. The researchers believed that slowing breathing has a direct impact on the sympathetic nervous system, which helps control blood flow and skin temperature, blocking some of the pain response. (

14 Pain Management Fantasy Placing yourself into a fantasy role, or enacting a fantasy in your head while experiencing pain can act as a distraction to the pain; or, depending on the fantasy, work to enhance it. Pretending you are in a dream where the pain is expected can help your body tolerate the pain until it s ready to process and handle it in its own way.

15 Pain Management Visualization Heat Visualizing the sensation of pain as heat is effective. Taking a point of impact and seeing it as heat that is spreading across your body and releasing it into the air is easily learned. Seeing pain as warmth can be soothing and seeing it moving instead of concentrated point will be more tolerable.

16 Pain Management Visualization Light Seeing the pain come in as light and then dispersing it throughout your body is Another technique that is easy learned. Imagine the impact as an explosion of light, flashing across a larger surface on your body. In a flogging scene see it as light flashing across your back as it spreads and subsides. Color If you are good with visualizing light then add color. This form of visualization can take on many forms, from seeing red or yellow or even white colors racing across the skin to imagining the colors shooting into the sky; taking the pain with it.

17 Pain Management Storage: If you have a hard time with visualization use the storage techniques. Here the bottom accepts and stores the pain in the immediate vicinity of the site it is happening. Hold the pain in as long as possible, and then release that pain in one action. Release it by shaking, screaming, laughing, wiggling, whatever works best for you. Those who wiggle or squeal during the whole scene and are but dispelling the stored energy almost immediately.
