2 On behalf of The Benchmarque Group, I am delighted to introduce you to our Audiometry Screening and. The Nationally Accredited program incorporates the delivery of a four units of competency. Three of the units included in this program are from the Audiometry Skills Set included in the National Health Training Package. By packaging and contextualising individual units of competency, we are able to develop and deliver a program to meet the specific needs of students who will be conducting comprehensive Assessment as part of their clinical role. This program is designed to offer a broad range of skills and knowledge while being more accessible for all participants studying throughout the country, particularly those in regional, rural or remote settings. The fundamental goal of ear health and audiometry screening programs in children is to identify children most likely to have hearing loss that can effect their communication, their development, general health and ability to effectively manage education. The need to develop skills to manage this process in great demand in regional settings as access to Audiometrists can be limited. Having the skills to identify patients at risk of hearing impairment and refer them effectively for care them may assist them to avoid educational, vocational and social issues in the future. The is evidence based, skills focused and nationally accredited, providing successful participants with the opportunity to gain a qualification that can be added immediately to their scope of practice. 3 Course Outline The is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for clinicians to safely assess and screen the aural health of individuals and groups. The ability for all health professionals to conduct a comprehensive and structured ear health assessment should be regarded as a fundamental and required clinical skill. A comprehensive ear health assessment should be a systematic and structured process that includes history taking (asking), physical examination (looking) and documentation and referral (recording). On the successful completion of the program, students should have: A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the auditory system The skills and knowledge to identify a range of conditions of the auditory system Be able to perform an ear health examination The ability to apply a broad knowledge of management strategies, client centred education and related physical functions to health promotion and provision of basic care and advice in relation to audiometry screening The ability to ensure information, including required forms are accessible and available The ability to follow all necessary personal hygiene and infection control requirements Check equipment for use Perform Otoscopy Perform Tympanometry Perform Audiometry Identify contra indications to proceed with hearing assessment Outline any follow up required and make appropriate specialist referrals as needed Document the examination findings, procedure and outcome in the patient s history.

Gordon has a strong background and passion for professional development, education and training in the ear health sector and has worked closely with the Benchmarque Group to develop the. Gordon is currently engaged as a specialist facilitator with The Benchmarque Group and thrives on the challenge of delivering complex clinical information to students in the classroom.
