In this process, participation of corporate sector, as a CSR activity made a milestone. The SBI Foundation provided 2.65 crores in support of the cost of cochlear implants (CI) and post-operative rehabilitation under its CSR project on 18th May 2017 at a program in Kolkata to AYJNISHD(D). I am sure this partnership will support the cost of CI that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear and the post operative care for development of speech in at least 50 hearing impaired children. This academic session begun well with launch of online admission process to various courses of the institute. The results of online admission to various courses for the year , in terms admission schedule, selection list are available at I would like to wish all the best to the new aspiring professionals, who have recently selected for different courses in the institute in the new academic year. (For private circulation only) NINAD I am happy to inform you that AYJNISHD(D) participated in the biggest ever Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for distribution of aids & assistive devices to Divyangjan (PwDs) organized at Rajkot (Gujarat) on 29th June 2017, by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. It may be noted that in the camp held at race course ground in Rajkot, Gujarat, the assistive aids and appliances were distributed under ADIP scheme of Govt. of India to more than 18,000 divyangjan in the august presence of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani and Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot. So far 820 Cochlear Implant (CI) surgeries have been done across India under ADIP scheme of Govt., of India and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). 2 AYJNISHD(D) PARTICIPATES IN MEGHA CAMP Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) AYJNISHD(D) participated in the biggest ever Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for distribution of Aids & Assistive Devices to Divyangjan (PwDs), organized at Rajkot (Gujarat) on 29th June 2017 by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Page-2 Minister of Gujarat Shri Nitinbhai Patel, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment & Women and Child Development of Gujarat Shri Atmaram Parmar and Member of Parliament Shri Mohanbhai Kundariya graced the occasion. Shri N.S. Kang, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shri J.N. Dixit, Chief Secretary, Gujarat, Shri Mukesh Jain, Joint Secretary Department of Empowerment Persons with Disabilities, and other senior State/District dignitaries were also present during the event. The camp was conducted at race course ground in Rajkot, Gujarat, where assistive aids and appliances were distributed under ADIP scheme of Govt. of India to more than Divyangjans in the august presence of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Governor of Gujarat Shri O.P Kohli, Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani and Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Parshottam Rupala, Deputy Chief During the event while addressing the large gathering, the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that the Government is sensitive to the cause of persons with disabilities and is dedicatedly working for the upliftment of the poor including persons with disabilities. He pointed out that he considers himself as part of the family of the persons with disabilities and is committed to work for their cause. He highlighted important initiatives taken by the Government for empowerment of persons with disabilities such as development of a standard uniform sign language for persons with hearing impairment across the country and Accessible India Campaign. He urged the persons with disabilities to get enrolled under the insurance schemes of the

3 Government of India which provides for insurance benefit up to Rs lakh and more with a nominal premium of Rs 1.00 per month and Rs.1.00 per day to take care of difficult situation. He also urged youth to become self reliant under the start up programme of the Government and consider developing innovative technology for improving their daily life of PwDs. He said that he is emotionally attached to the issues concerning PwDs and always gives priority to attend the events involving them. Page-3 truly represent any society. He assured that the State Government will work in tandem with the Government of India for the betterment and empowerment of PwDs.At Rajkot Camp aids and appliance to the tune of Rs Crore were distributed among divyang beneficiaries including 3000 beneficiaries who have received aids and appliances from the State Government amounting to Rs.1.53 Cr. So far it is the biggest camp in the history of the country in terms of the number of beneficiaries in a single camp for distribution of aids and appliances. Earlier similar mega camps involving the Prime Minister were conducted by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities at Varanasi, Navsari & Vadodara in the year 2016 benefiting about 10000, 11,000 and 10,500 beneficiaries respectively. He lauded the activities being undertaken and the efforts of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in empowering and mainstreaming the persons with disabilities. He also thanked the Government of Gujarat and Organisations of Central Govt., for their cooperation in empowering PwDs.Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot in his speech said that his Ministry considers the persons with disabilities as valuable human resource and assured the Prime Minister that under his leadership the Ministry will continue its work tirelessly in the direction of achieving the goal to have a truely inclusive society which is in the spirit of the theme of the Government Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas. In his speech, Chief Minister of Gujarat Sh. Two Guinness World Records were created in connection with the event. On 28th June 2017 a Guinness Book of World Record was created in the category of highest ever participation of 1442 persons with hearing impairment in a sign language lesson at a single venue while performing our National Anthem. Second Guinness World Record was created in the category of highest number of Orthosis (Calipers) fitted to 781 mobility impaired persons on a single day. In addition to the above two Guinness Book of World records, another new World Book Record has also been created in the category of World s Largest Disbursement of Aids and Appliances for Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) at a single venue in one day involving persons with disabilities (Divyangjan). 5 Page-5 HON. MINISTER VISITS CRC AHMEDABAD The Hon. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Governmento f India, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, along with the State Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment for Government of Gujarat, Shri Atmaram Makanbhai Parmar, Dr. Kirit Premjibhai Solanki, Member of Parliament, Ahmedabad (West), visited the Composite Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) Ahmedabad, on 27th June During their visit to various departments, Hon ble Ministers appreciated the efforts of the staff, in their continuous efforts to provide rehabilitation services to the persons with disabilities. Hon. Minister encouraged the staff to provide continuous services to persons with disabilities in terms of rehabilitation and socio-economic empowerment. INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY OBSERVED AT CRC-AHMEDABAD The International Yoga Day was observed at CRC-Ahmedabad. One of the Yoga experts, Mr. Sandip Patel, from Gujarat was invited on 21st June 2017 for the yoga demonstration and deliberate on the significance of yoga in our daily lives. All the staff of CRC-Ahmedabad participated in the yoga program. During their visit Hon ble Ministers saw various sections of CRC Ahmedabad, like Speech & Hearing, Special Education, Clinical Psychology. They also interacted with Professionals, persons with disabilities and their parents and relatives. Hon ble Minister Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot interacts with a beneficiary in the Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Section Yoga Expert Mr. Sandip Patel, with the Participants on Yoga Day at CRC-Ahmedabad Mr. Sandip Patel, a Yoga expert from Gujarat, demonstrated the ways in which performance of yoga, can be done. He also provided information about use of various asanas, in terms of reducing various types life style disorders among human beings. He interacted with the participants and assisted the staff of CRC-Ahmedabad in performing the appropriate asanas in the right manner.

6 Page-6 ADMISSION TO TCAD IN HYDERABAD FOR ADULT DEAF TCAD is a Govt. ITI under AYJNISHD (D). The admissions are open exclusively to the adult deaf in the trade courses of Craftsmen nature, namely Fitter, Turner, Welder & Carpenter. The trade training is conducted in the pattern of National Council for Vocational training (NCVT). The candidates who pass out get employed in Private,Public sector organizations. The second year trainees in the Turner trade are shown at work and also attended technical sessions conducted by delegates from M/s. Keolis Hyderabad Mass Rapid Transit System Limited (KHMRTS), which is a private limited company working for Multi -Modal Transport System (MMTS). M/ s.keolis imparted technical information to TACD trainees, various kinds of skills expected to be performed by the technicians while at work in MMTS.Keolis Hyderabad Mass Rapid Transit System Limited (KHMRTS) is a private limited company incorporated under Indian Companies Act, The previous Government of Andhra Pradesh had resolved to provide a rail system for 71.6 km on elevated structure on three corridors in the city of Hyderabad. Some of the past pupils of TCAD are already employed by KHMRTS. It is hoped that the other trained adult deaf will be gainfully employed in other sectors of industrial requirements. AYJNISHD(D) & SBI FOUNDATION Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (AYJNISHD), Mumbai, and SBI Foundation took a big step in bringing smiles in the life of 50 families having children born with profound hearing loss. SBI provided the cost of Cochlear Implants and post-operative rehabilitation under CSR Project: SBI - Shravan Shakti to AYJNISHD. SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya, presented a cheque of Rs 2.65 crore to Dr A K Sinha, Director of AYJNISHD, Mumbai, for providing Cochlear Implants to 50 children from West Bengal in the event organised at Kolkata Beneficiaries Meet on 18th May 2017.

7 AYJNISHD(D) NEWS Page-7 JOINT SECRETARY VISITS AYJNISHD(D) Mrs. Dolly Chakraborthy IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, visited AYJNISHD(D) on 25th April This was her first visit to the institute after taking over the office of Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. She was welcomed by Dr. A.K.Sinha, Director AYJNISHD(D). On her visit to the institute she inaugurated the information KIOSK. She visited various departments and held a meeting with staff and students. She encouraged the staff and students to improve their strategies to deliver prompt services to persons with hearing impairment. Mrs. Dolly Chakraborthy, IAS, also visited southern regional centre (SRC) of.ayjnishd(d). She visited the centre on 24th June Dr. S. Santhi Prakash, i/c. Asst. Director, has welcomed her and facilated her visit at the centre. Mrs. Dolly Chakraborthy IAS also interacted with the staff and students of SRC and visited all the departments of the centre. NINAD OUTREACH AND EXTENSION SERVICES OF AYJNISHD(D) The Outreach and Extension Service Department of AYJNISHD(D) provided its services at Saravali, Bhiwandi in Thane District of Maharashtra State. During the program diagnostic cum fitment service camp was conducted on 5 to 7th at Saravali and on 10th April 2017 at Bhiwandi in collaboration with local Schools for the Deaf. Dignostic cum fitments services were provided to 162 children. ADIP scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment were also implemented during the camps at Beed in collaboration with Kaku Nana Prathistan, in District in Maharashtra, Dharward District in collaboration with JSS institute of Speech and Hearing in Karnataka state. 8 Page-8 CRE PROGRAMME AT SRC OF AYJNISHD(D) Sothern Regional Centre (SRC) of AYJNISHD(D) conducted a 5 days short term CRE programme Educational Assessment and Evaluation for the Chidren with Hearing Impairment from 15th to 20th May To enlighten and train them with latest assessment techniques on the reading, writing, spelling and arithmatic, used for children with hearing impairment. To orient the IERP teachers on the educational evaluation, Importance of year plan & unit plan. All the resources persons were experts in the field of rehabilitation of the hearing impaired and were equiped with skills to upgrade the knowledge of the participants in terms of A total of 30 Teachers Working in Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Inclusive Education Resource Persons-IERP) and special schools participated in this training programme. All the participants were the programme kit, with resource manual, awareness material. The main objective of the program were as follows: To prepare and Improve the IERT teachers for the ability of educational assessment for children with hearing impairment. To orient on techniques used to assess the children with hearing impairment. To highlight on the spoken language Assessment to the children with hearing impairment. During the short term training program the participants were provided orientation and equiped with skills for assessment, techniques for testing in reading and writing for children with hearing impairment. To orient about early childhood Assessment for children with hearing impairment. To highlight on the preparation of unit test, standardized tests and teacher made learing materials.
