FITNESS FOR LIFE II This course provides and builds on concepts from Fitness for Life I where students experience lifetime activities that promote the concept of fitness. Fitness for Life II also builds on these foundations of Wellness by examining and applying the more advanced principles of conditioning and giving an introduction to fitness assessment. Fitness 102 gives students the knowledge of how to maximize their cardiovascular fitness. This information will teach students how they can increase their own athletic performance, lose body fat, or simply maintain optimum cardiovascular health. The primary goal of the Physical Education unit is to present a wide variety of physical fitness opportunities, movement/dance, and games which will lead to development of health related fitness. FITNESS FOR LIFE IV The focus of this course is continued life-long fitness. The ultimate goal of this program is to empower students to understand that total fitness is an individual responsibility. This course attempts to develop social consciousness and concern for the rights and safety of others. Primary goal in health the senior year is Family Living and Sexual Education with topics to include: reproduction and the early years of life, relationships and responsibilities, and preventing abuse and violence. A secondary goal is to establish a knowledge base about strong emotional health and behaviors with which will lead to positive decision making choices and problem solving concerning interpersonal relationships. The NASP s mission is promote the teaching of target archery as a part of the in-school curriculum to improve educational performance of students and encourage their participation in the shooting sports.
3 Literacy and Technology The Fitness for Life program strives to incorporate 21st century skills whenever possible. Teachers will use the Remind App to safely and efficiently interact with students and parents about important information relating to the classroom and school activities. Remind is safe and easy because teachers can engage students and parents without needing to upload cell phone numbers and without having to give their personal phone numbers out. Teachers will give instructions on how to sign up. Kidblog.org will allow students to write from anywhere: computer lab, from home, ipad, or smartphone. By blogging, students can create classroom discussion, learn digital citizenship, practice writing skills and reflect on learning. Locker Rooms Students are responsible for bringing a combination lock to each class. Students are only permitted to leave their gyms clothes/locks on the lockers during their class time; they may NOT use the lockers during the day or overnight. Teachers are not responsible for students belongs. Fitness Testing Students will participate in a graded physical fitness test 3 times per semester. The fitness test will include the beep test, push-ups, sit-ups, and the sit and reach. The physical fitness test is weighted differently for each test, ie. Pre-test, Mid-test, Post-test. The pre-test will be graded solely are participation and effort, our rationale for this is that students have no baseline data. The students will participate in a mid-test about halfway through the semester. This mid-test will be graded and will count as a test grade. At the end of the semester students will complete a post-test, this will also be graded. The students are graded on effort and their current fitness level. The data we have collected to score the students is based on national data of students that are of the same age and gender. In class students will train for each of the tests on a daily basis.
