3 GREEN & GOLD SORT CAMS Welcome to the 2017 edition of our Green & Gold Sport Camps, which provide participants with a fun-filled and memorable developmental experience in the home of the Golden Bears and andas! Green & Gold Sport Camps feature an ideal blend of sport-specific and general athletic development. The sport-specific component has been designed in conjunction with our University of Alberta Head Coaches, and is consistent with the guidelines of each sport s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework. The general athletic component is delivered through our innovative AIM rogram, which combines age-appropriate physical and mental activities with carefully selected multi-sport experiences. The inclusion of these two components is intended to help participants build well-rounded skills and have a great time in the process! 4 IMORTANT INFORMATION In order to enhance learning and enjoyment, all camps at the FUNdamentals (ages 6 8), Learn-to-Train (ages 9 11), Train-to- Train (ages ) and Train-to-Compete (ages 15 17) stages continue to be full-day camps. All camps at the Active-Start (ages 3 5) stage continue to be half-day morning camps. GREEN & GOLD ELITE CAMS The Green & Gold Sport System and Golden Bears and andas Varsity Athletics are excited to offer Green & Gold Elite Camps in several of our varsity sports. We will provide supervised transportation to and from RedTail Landing Golf Club and ensure they arrive safely If your child is attending a soccer camp at CAMUS SAINT- JEAN, please make arrangements for drop off and pick up at that location If your child is attending a hockey camp at CLARE DRAKE ARENA, please make arrangements for drop off and pick up in the east end of the arena at ice level If your child is attending a camp on NORTH CAMUS, including VAN VLIET COMLEX and CLARE DRAKE ARENA, we will provide you with a parking permit. This permit will allow you to park in specified areas during designated dropoff and pick-up times. 5 ACTIVE-START CAMS (AGES 3 5) The Active-Start stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development framework is intended to introduce and build fundamental movement skills and help participants feel comfortable in all sporting environments. Sportball This half-day camp is offered in partnership with Sportball, which has a proven track record of delivering quality programming at this initial stage of athletic development. 6 FUNDAMENTALS CAMS (AGES 6 8) The FUNdamentals stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development framework is intended to help participants improve their fundamental movement skills and build the basic skills associated with a variety of sports that are best initiated at this stage. All FUNdamentals camps have been designed in conjunction with our Golden Bears and andas coaches and Faculty of hysical Education and Recreation experts. Basketball The goals of this camp are to build basic basketball skills and improve general athletic skills. Approximately half of this camp will be spent on the basketball court where participants will develop their footwork, dribbling, passing, and shooting skills through fun drills and modified game play. The other half will be spent taking part in our innovative AIM rogram, which combines age-appropriate physical and mental activities with carefully selected multi-sport experiences. 7 Hockey The goals of this camp are to build basic hockey skills and improve general athletic skills. Approximately half of this camp will be spent on the ice at Clare Drake Arena where participants will begin to develop their skating, passing, shooting and puck-handling skills through fun drills and modified game play. The other half will be spent taking part in our innovative AIM rogram, which combines age-appropriate physical and mental activities with carefully selected multi-sport experiences. This is not a beginners camp, so some previous hockey experience is required articipants are required to come with full hockey equipment including their own stick along with suitable athletic clothing and footwear for the AIM component All participants will receive an official camp hockey jersey Code Date Gender Location Age Time Cost Multi-Sport The goals of this camp are to give participants an opportunity to explore a variety of team sports that are suitable at this stage and to simultaneously develop a wide range of sportspecific and general athletic skills. The planned sports in this camp are basketball, soccer, softball and swimming, although adjustments are possible depending on weather or other circumstances. An alternative option will exist for participants who are unable to swim. General athletic skills will be taught through our innovative AIM rogram, which incorporates a variety of age-appropriate physical and mental activities. 8 Run, Jump, Throw The goals of this camp are to build basic track and field skills and improve general athletic skills. Approximately half of this camp will be spent at Foote Field s outdoor track where participants will begin to develop the skills that are included in Athletics Canada s popular Run Jump Throw Wheel program. The other half will be spent taking part in our innovative AIM rogram, which combines age-appropriate physical and mental activities with carefully selected multi-sport experiences. 10 Curling The goals of this camp are to build basic curling skills and strengthen general athletic skills. Approximately half of this camp will be spent in the s curling rink where participants will begin to develop their delivery and sweeping skills through fun drills and modified game play. The other half will be spent taking part in our innovative AIM rogram, which combines age-appropriate physical and mental activities with carefully selected multisport experiences. No previous curling experience is required Specialized half-weight little rocks will be used Brooms and sliders will be provided to those who need them articipants are required to wear a CSA approved helmet, clean athletic shoes, and warm athletic clothing when on the ice They are also required to bring a separate pair of athletic shoes and summer athletic clothing for the AIM component All participants will receive an official camp hoodie Flag Football The goals of this camp are to build basic flag football skills and strengthen general athletic skills. Approximately half of this camp will be spent on Foote Field s new artificial turf where participants will begin to develop non-contact skills like passing, receiving, running with the ball and defending through fun drills and modified game play. The other half will be spent taking part in our innovative AIM rogram, which combines age-appropriate physical and mental activities with carefully selected multi-sport experiences. 14 Wrestling The goals of this camp are to build basic wrestling skills and strengthen general athletic skills. Approximately half of this camp will be spent in our wrestling gym where participants will develop basic skills like stance, motion, takedowns and groundwork through fun drills and modified matches. The other half will be spent taking part in our innovative AIM rogram, which combines age-appropriate physical and mental activities with carefully selected multi-sport experiences. 15 TRAIN-TO-TRAIN CAMS (AGES ) The Train-to-Train stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development framework is intended to help participants improve and advance their sport-specific skills and solidify their general athletic skills. All Train-to-Train camps have been designed in conjunction with our Golden Bears and andas coaches and Faculty of hysical Education and Recreation experts. AIM Sport Leadership The goal of this camp is to give aspiring young athletes the tools to become better leaders and performers in their chosen sport(s). This is done through a comprehensive approach that combines physical training, leadership development, mental training, and cross-training. The physical training component of this camp will include an equal focus on advanced movement skills (i.e. agility, balance, coordination and speed) and athletic fitness (i.e. strength, power, flexibility, mobility and endurance). The leadership component will include hands-on assistant coaching opportunities within our Green & Gold Sport Camps. The mental training component will introduce a variety of essential leadership skills like teamwork, confidence, goal setting and communication. Finally, the cross training component will enable participants to experience a number of our Late Entry Sports. Together these components will help young athletes develop into well rounded leaders and competitors. 20 TRAIN-TO-COMETE CAMS (AGES 15 17) The Train-to-Compete stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development framework is intended to help participants advance and refine their sport-specific skills and enhance their general athletic skills. All Train-to-Compete camps have been designed in conjunction with our Golden Bears and andas coaches and Faculty of hysical Education and Recreation experts. AIM Sport Leadership The goal of this camp is to give aspiring young athletes the tools to become better leaders and performers in their chosen sport(s). This is done through a comprehensive approach that combines physical training, leadership development, mental training, and cross-training. The physical training component of this camp will include an equal focus on advanced movement skills (i.e. agility, balance, coordination and speed) and athletic fitness (i.e. strength, power, flexibility, mobility and endurance). The leadership component will include hands-on assistant coaching opportunities within our Green & Gold Sport Camps. The mental training component will introduce a variety of essential leadership skills like teamwork, confidence, goal setting and communication. Finally, the cross training component will enable participants to experience a number of our Late Entry Sports. Together these components will help young athletes develop into well rounded leaders and competitors. Credits are processed without any administration fees Refunds will be granted on cancellation requests received 28 days prior to the first day of the registered camp A 25% cancellation fee will be levied on cancellation requests received between 7 and 28 days prior to the first day of the registered camp A 50% cancellation fee will be levied on cancellation requests received between 1 and 6 days prior to the first day of the registered camp In case of injury or illness that occurs prior to the first day of the registered camp, full refunds will be granted when accompanied by a medical note artial refunds may be granted in case of extenuating circumstances on or after the first day of the registered camp. Medical notes are required for all refunds requested on the basis of injury or illness Once the applicable cancellation fee has been levied, you have the choice of receiving a refund or credit If the original payment was by credit card, refunds will be credited to the card used for the original payment If the original payment was by cash or cheque, you will be refunded by cheque. 22 TRANSFERS An administration fee of $5 will be assessed to each transfer from one camp to another offered by the Faculty of hysical Education and Recreation If transferring to a camp of higher cost, you will be required to pay the administration fee and the difference in cost between the lower and higher priced camps If transferring to a camp of lower cost, you will be required to pay the administration fee and the difference in cost between the higher and lower priced camps will be refunded. The $15 refund administration fee will not apply to transfers Transfers are permitted only within the same programming session and only if space is available Transferring to a camp at a later date for the purpose of avoiding cancelling fees is not permitted. articipants who have transferred to a camp later in the summer will be held to the cancellation policies that apply to the camp they were registered in originally except in exceptional circumstances AGE OLICY Green & Gold Sport Camps are committed to providing developmentally appropriate programs for all our participants. With that in mind, we require that all participants register in the appropriate age group. We respect that our camp participants will have diverse range of skills and experiences, and that parents may wish to see their child placed in a different age group than what their current age prescribes. However, a young athlete s age is the most reliable factor in placing them in developmentally appropriate programming. INFORMED CONSENT FORM arents and/or guardians must sign and return an informed consent form for each participant before camp begins Informed consent forms only need to be completed once per summer for each participant Informed consent forms are valid for the entire calendar year in which they were signed and submitted Children without completed informed consent forms will not be allowed to participate in camp activities Completed forms should be completed and submitted during sign in on the first day of camp.
