1 Ability To Thrive V O L U M E 4, I S S U E 2 F A L L I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E : Hamilton County Here We Come! Winner s of Smallest Winner Art and Music Class Butler County Wellness and Fitness Program Ability To Thrive has had many requests by Hamilton County Board of DD and families to expand our Wellness and Fitness program to Hamilton County. We are pleased to announce that we will start on Thursdays effective October 16th at the Planet Fitness in Finneytown at 9 am. If you are interested please talk with your service facilitator. 2 P A G E 2 Winner of the Smallest Winner Stephen Arnott is the winner of contest. He weighed 240 pounds in February and after much hard work is now 192 pounds. Way to go Stephen! All of Ability To Thrive is so proud. And our runner up is Brett Garrett losing 20 pounds. Way to go Brett! Everyone worked hard and did very well in their weight loss journey. ATT s New Art and Music Class We are proud to announce the start or our new Art and Music Class on Mondays from 9 am until 2 pm. Vickie Rodgers is the instructor for this class and has planned some exciting activities and field trips. She has also invited students from Xavier, UC, and Miami University to the Art and Music Class to be guest presenters and instructors. They will also be going to various art and music museums. A B I L I T Y T O T H R I V E
3 V O L U M E 4, I S S U E 2 P A G E 3 Butler County Wellness and Fitness Program Since we have added the new Art and Music Class on Mondays we now have openings on Mondays and Tuesdays at the Wellness and Fitness Program at World Gym. We still have a waiting list on the other days. We are so proud of what our members are learning in the Wellness and Fitness Class before working out in the gym. They are not only learning but retaining knowledge that many college students don t know. such as Cortisol, the stress hormone, dopamine, oxytoxin, Omega 3, antioxidants,, and endorphins. We are also learning methods of relaxing and hope to soon get a guest speaker to talk about meditation. While doing research for my new book on Autism and Alzheimer's I discovered that genes are not destiny and far more adaptable than previously believed. A single argument can turn off health-promoting genes while a single meditation can turn on genes that support health and turn off genes that promote illness. Ability To Thrive Wellness and Fitness Schedule Monday Tuesday Wednesday-Friday Location: World Gym 9481 Princeton-Glendale Rd. (513) Fairfield Bowling Lanes 5181 Dixie Hwy. (513) (Mon. and Fri.) 4 P A G E 4 Activity and Learning Center Our Tuesday group has been active with skill development and enjoying getting out into the community during the summer months. Recently they met with the Wellness and Fitness group for Olympic games at Fairfield First Church of God. We express our appreciation to Linda Hauser and the church and the volunteers for a great organized fun event. We had a blast Thank You! N E W S L E T T E R T I T L E
5 V O L U M E 1, I S S U E 1 P A G E 5 Ability To Thrive and Employment First Ability To Thrive Wellness and Fitness Program meets at public gyms, bowling alleys and swimming pools. Consequently we provide natural access in the community to enhance social skills. Our Wellness and Fitness instructors address nutrition, stress reduction, positive thinking and importance of exercise. Our goal is to get to know each person individually to ascertain their passion and possible career exploration. Next year we will recruit a person or agency for job placement and job coaching. Word To Thrive By Life isn t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. To believe a thing impossible is to make it so George Bernard Shaw French Proverb To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment Ralph Waldo Emerson When you wish someone joy, you wish them peace, love, prosperity, happiness.all the good things Maya Angelou To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens Ecclesiastes 3:1
