2 SOS STEWARDS (INDIVIDUALS) Eyes on the River Observers Individual Contribution To be the eyes and ears (and hands) of the SR Greenway and to take an active role in caring for the SR Tasks: Communicate your observations to SOS (via the Web site or Facebook) wildlife sightings unusual water conditions undesirable plant life garbage and contaminants in the water river passage and safety concerns other issues that might arise
3 SOS STEWARDS (INDIVIDUALS) Adopt-a-River Program Individual Contribution Attend field trips to the Seine River (mostly grade 7/8) Tasks: Assist with water safety (increase ratio of adults to students, crowd control) Assist students with chest waders, life jackets, and gloves Assist with activities Water quality testing Macro-invertebrate collection and ID Site and vegetation description
4 BEHIND THE SCENES (INDIVIDUALS) Creative Communication Individual Contribution To assist with a variety of creative communication projects Tasks: Write content for the SOS newsletter, Web site, Facebook site, brochures, signs, newspaper articles, etc. Improve the design of the Web site Contribute to SOS photo library Design communication tools (SOS brochure, volunteer brochure) Design an SOS logo Create site specific maps (GIS)
5 BEHIND THE SCENES (INDIVIDUALS) Administration Individual Contribution To assist with a variety of administrative functions Possible Tasks: Convert paper accounts into Accounting software Media scanning (regular search for mention of SOS in the media, make digital copies for SOS records) Assist with bookkeeping Assist with membership lists Volunteer management
6 BEHIND THE SCENES (INDIVIDUALS) Seine River Advocacy Individual Contribution To keep abreast of current issues Tasks Review the agendas and attachments for city meetings for items affecting the Seine River Riel Community Committee Riverbank Committee Appeals Committee Notify committee members/board of emerging issues along the SR: Development proposals Re-zoning applications Requests for variances
7 BEHIND THE SCENES Fundraising Individual or Committee To increase revenue for SOS through a variety of fundraising initiatives Possible Tasks: Compile a list of potential donors and sponsors (in the SR area) Write an fundraising letter Coordinate participation in the Fort Whyte fundraising raffle (distribute raffle tickets to sellers) Seek out fundraising opportunities Create a list of priority projects to match with fundraising opportunities
8 SOS COMMITTEES Habitat Restoration/Enhancement Individual or Committee To work with the City of Winnipeg to identify priority areas for habitat restoration work along the SR To facilitate habitat restoration projects Tasks: Organize tree planting events Organize removal of invasive species (thistle, European buckthorn, etc.) Assist with riverbank and trail work Coordinate requests for community riverbank clean-ups

Post-Installation Stewardship of the rain garden (weeding, etc.)
13 SOS COMMITTEES Forest Management (BDE) Standing Committee To work with the City of Winnipeg administration to resolve a variety of issues (vandalism, habitat damage, trail use, etc.) affecting the Bois-des- Esprits Forest Meetings 2-3per year as a committee As needed with the City administration
14 SOS COMMITTEES Secondary Plan Standing Committee To work with the City of Winnipeg to develop a secondary plan for the Seine River (geographic extent to be determined) To have a SR plan approved (by-law) Plan will affect future development along the SR (treat it as a whole) May also address appropriate uses Meetings City-led process approved in July 2014 (meetings and timeline to be determined by city planners?)
