2 HYAP-Homeless Youth Assistance Program ORGANISATION: Samaritans REPRESENTATIVE: Wayne Field (for HYAP contact Glenda Betts) PHONE: *Stage 1 funding has been extended until February 2016 Brokerage to support 12 to 15 years At Risk or Experiencing Homelessness. Case Management support for service providers (with SHS case planning involvement) to access necessary funding to maintain, reconcile or establish safe accommodation. This may also be used for emergency accommodation and transport needs to enable the young person to access safe supervised accommodation. 4 ORGANISATION: Wesley Mission Young Healthy Minds REPRESENTATIVE: (via ) PHONE: Young Healthy Minds Service is a free early intervention service for children and young people from birth to 18 years who are at risk of developing, or showing early signs of mental illness. Support is evidence based, creative and client directed and is able to be tailored to the individual and family s needs. Home visiting, groups, one-on-one intervention and community and school outreach are just some of the ways we can work collaboratively with young people and their families. SistaSpeak The objectives of SistaSpeak are: *To increase Aboriginal women s self-esteem and capacity to make positive choices in regards to education to improve their lives *Communicate effectively *Inspire young Aboriginal women to think about the range of career options *Work with local and national Aboriginal women to provide diverse role models *Work with local Aboriginal women as mentors in order to support the young women through the program *promote effective partnerships This all encourages young women to make the connection between school, careers and financial independence. By exploring different career options and hearing positive stories as well as taking part in team activities, SistaSpeak aims to raise the self-esteem of the participants. BroSpeak Outcomes To achieve these goals the participating boys will: attend school regularly; be punctual in their daily attendance; act within the school s behaviour guidelines; revise their Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) to include their BroSpeak goals; 4

5 stay at school beyond compulsory attendance age, and accept roles of responsibility at school. Kinship Care is support for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. Kinship Care runs peer support groups and community forums, and offers information for grandparents on how they can access financial and legal assistance in the event that they feel their grandchildren are receiving inadequate care. Current Kinship Care groups exist throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Valley. There are new Kinship Care groups forming all the time.
