1 Promoting Your Event End Even the best, well-planned events are no good without a proper audience. Once you know the type of event you choose to host, consider which community members you would specifically like to see in attendance. Are you looking for clergy? Men in general? Athletes? When you answer that question, you can target your promotion efforts to get the best response. Leveraging Media Buy-In Everybody wants media coverage of their event and organization, but how do we go about getting it? The beauty of the #FathersDayPledgePA campaign is the statewide recognition built up from major league baseball teams and the coming together of local communities. Leverage the fact that you are part of a larger, statewide campaign working to put an end to sexual and domestic violence to entice the media s attention. Be persistent! You may also consider authoring or having a local leader author an op-ed or other piece for a news source. Or developing your own PSA video for your YouTube channel. Remember, no amount of positive attention is too small you never know who might see it. PA Says NO MORE will post the PSAs developed by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies online. Feel free to use those as well in your promotion efforts. Similarly, in the #FathersDayPledgePA Resources section of this toolkit, you ll find a Sample Press Release, Sports Team Proposal, Proclamation, the PA Says NO MORE and #FathersDayPledgePA campaign logos to download, as well as free event resources to order. Check out our Engaging Men and Boys Toolkit for some talking points to use when describing the pledge. Social Media Social media is the cheapest, and often most valuable, promotional tool in event and organizational promotion. Connect with us on social media and let us promote you as well! To find PA Says NO MORE on Facebook: If you re not connected with us on Facebook, like our page. We ll like yours back! To find PA Says NO MORE on If you re not connected with us on Twitter, follow us. We ll follow you back! Don t forget to use the campaign hashtag in all your posts: #FathersDayPledgePA If you don t currently use social media and would like to learn how, please contact Prevention Manager, Kristen Herman (kherman@pcadv.org). continued on back >
2 If you don t use social media and are not able to start an account, please Prevention Manager, Kristen Herman (kherman@pcadv.org) - we will still promote you via our social media accounts. Please include date, time, name of event, and any community organizations participating that may utilize social media themselves. We will be posting a detailed daily social media plan with pre-written posts on this page in May This resource will allow you to participate in the regular conversations without having to develop your own content from scratch. Please check back for more information and contact us with any questions. Fundraising Consider using the groundswell of the #FathersDayPledgePA Campaign attention to fundraise for your local organization. You can: Utilize PA Says NO MORE and #FathersDayPledgePA materials Have us promote your event via social media Recruit local sponsors for your event (see #FathersDayPledgePA Resources for a sample letter and grid) PA Says NO MORE cannot: Give you access to mailing lists Solely promote or only promote, one event over another Solicit sponsorships or in-kind donations Assume financial or legal responsibilities Evaluation Evaluation is key in hosting a great event and, more importantly, ensuring our prevention efforts are successful and sustainable. We cannot stress enough the importance of evaluation your information at the local level will help to inform future years of the #FathersDayPledgePA campaign statewide. Examples of event evaluations include: Feedback Form Handing out a brief feedback form to participants and staff to gauge their general interest and thoughts on the event, as well as thoughts on engaging men and the movement to end domestic and sexual violence. Pre/Post Evaluation This method will work best in a training or intimate event setting. We can help you develop questions to measure knowledge, attitudes, beliefs or behaviors and have participants answer those questions prior to and after your event.
3 Counting Meaningful Conversations Keeping track of meaningful conversations is an easy way to reflect on the success of your event. Ask each staff person or volunteer to maintain a record of conversations they have had with participants throughout the course of the event. All comments, positive or negative, are valuable in understanding participant perceptions and leveraging community buy in. For evaluation form templates, please see the #FathersDayPledgePA Resources section. Sustainability The endeavor of the #FathersDayPledgePA campaign will be null and void without the continued work of engaging men and boys in prevention year round. With varying program capacities there are several ways to maintain efforts that serve to improve the local environment. As always, PA Says NO MORE and PCADV are here to help in any way we can! Primarily we recommend having a sign up sheet at your event that includes asking for the participant s address. With this information, we can add them to the statewide PA Says NO MORE monthly newsletter. Some local sustainability ideas include: Leveraging community interest from your #FathersDayPledgePA event into prevention relationships, community roundtable discussions or volunteer work. Utilizing PCADV s Engaging Men and Boys Toolkit to target a specific male audience (i.e. boys, athletes, men of faith, etc.) Participating in regional and state prevention efforts. Both PCAR and PCADV host regional prevention meetings. Contact kherman@pcadv.org for more information. Case Studies As PA Says NO MORE builds the #FathersDayPledgePA campaign year after year, we want to build a library of case studies to highlight the amazing work happening at the local level. If you feel you had an exceptional or unique #FathersDayPledgePA campaign event, we encourage you to fill out the Case Study Form and tell us about it! All entries will be posted on PA Says NO MORE social media outlets and displayed on PASaysNOMORE.com. continued on back >

Mentor and teach boys how to be men in ways that don t involve degrading or abusing girls and women. I will lead by example. End Are we talking to our kids about relationships? Should we be? It s important we talk to our kids about relationships from a young age. The youth in our lives look to us to model healthy relationships, and we owe it to them to start talking before they start dating. Nervous about what to say? Here are some tips and questions to get you started: 1. Start early. 2. Talk often. 3. Listen. 4. Answer honestly. 5.
