3 What is Student Council? The dictionary describes student Council as being a group of students elected by their peers to address issues of concern and organize student events and activities. The West Wing Student Council is a staple of West Wing history and Mustang Pride, a group of leaders so dedicated they are willing to do anything to better the School.

7 Last Year s Accomplishments Adopt a school for Hurricane Harvey Two Assemblies (Veterans and Kindness) Fundraisers (Candy grams, snack bars at games) Three dances Partnered with PTSA to purchase the water bottle filling stations 4th year in a row achieving Master Council

8 Vision for this year As Proud Americans and Arizonans we want to Strive to promote community centered activities this year, we not only want to impact our amazing school but we also want to impact the entire Nation! We are fueled with very passionate and hardworking Mustangs to help us accomplish, such big goals this year. We want to be the Model Student Council for all Schools, we want to inspire any form of student organization to strive to help their entire community and not just their school.

14 Leadership Committee CJ Stevenson & Kate Gocza In our committee,we want you to have your own voice and let the world hear your ideas. This school year we are looking for people to learn and use the building blocks for a amazing leader. The character traits we are looking for are confidence,ability to delegate,commitment,charisma and creativity Throughout the school year we will make more leaders, use our own voices,present ourselves as leaders, and inspire moments with optimism and happiness.

15 School Spirit Committee Taylor Storms School Spirit is all about getting students excited for school In my committee we will be coming up with spirit days and chants for our school and council I have so many spirit day ideas and want to have at least 1 spirit week each month and then also have them for special events around school The characteristics I am looking for in members wanting to join school spirit are people who are positive, driven, hardworking, and helpful

16 Brody Academic Achievement Committee German- In Academic Achievement we will be working to promote good studying habits and grades and try to inspire students in our school to work hard We will practicing for AZMerit Characteristics of a member in Academic Achievement are being ambitious, hardworking, and creative. We plan to offer student lead tutoring sessions and create a better learning environment for students.

17 School and Community Involvement Committee Emma MitchSchool and community involvements main goal is to build a partnership between the school and community. I m looking for members who are dedicated, responsible, and show grit I plan to hold various fundraisers such as the candy grams and beaded necklaces I want to fundraise for Breast cancer awareness, boots in the house,and raise stuff around the holidays for kids in hospitals who aren t as fortunate as us My committee will also be planning the Veterans Day Assembly.

18 Diversity Committee Keagan Bills Mission Statement: To embrace all human differences while building upon our commonalities as people. In our committee we will learn to eliminate exclusion based on: Race, color, ethnicity, national origin, gender, age, disability, religion Our committee will focus on building awareness, respect, and value for all other people. The characteristics I am looking for in my committee are compassion, respect, and the aspect of a team player. This year I plan on my committee doing various activities to show love throughout our school. We will also be involved in community service to show tolerance for others differences. I plan on activities such as ribbons around the school, kindness week, and mix it up lunch.

19 a Steam Committee Marlee McDermott with help from Grant Davis and Hailee Wing Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. You might hear us say STEM but they mean the same thing. This year, we added arts to the committee (instead of STEM) because we are going to be doing a lot of art-involved projects. We are going to plan STEAM Week and fun activities to help the school. The characteristics that we are looking for in a member are self control, perseverance, love for learning, honesty,and is respectful and responsible. We are going to have a terrific year, keep your head high and don t give up. We look forward to our future Student Council members.

20 Academic and Behavior Expectations Members must maintain a 3.0 g.p.a. Members will be respectful to any person who is trying to lead the meeting by listening quietly and following directions. Members will NOT have their phones out at Student Council Meetings unless required by their committee. Student Council members will not be wandering the halls during meetings.

23 State Leadership Conference November,attends Leadership Conference in Mesa. Share our West Wing chant Split off into pairs and hear committee specific presentations from other student councils from across AZ Officers will also be presenting at the Conference to present ideas for the Veteran s Assembly and recruiting practices. Gather ideas from them to bring back to our school. Complete a sheet of activities based on convention

24 Student Retreat with the Phoenix Suns Objective is to create leaders out of students. First arrive listen to a motivational speaker. Go through a series of interactive, leadership and team-building activities to take back to the school. Talk and get to know other councils Watch Phoenix Suns game.

25 AAJHSC State Convention End of year trip at We-Ko-Pa resort Walk around to different vendors at resort Formal banquet dinner with motivational speaker, and flag ceremony Award Ceremony for Honor and Master Council,recipients as we have done for 4 past years Meet and talk with other councils and share ideas Return late at night
