As there were lots of new faces at today s meeting, Mark asked everyone to introduce themselves on the tables they were sat at. 2. Ground Rules / Personal Information Mark Taylor said the Ground Rules for the meeting were on each table and Konrad Bakalarczyk asked people to read them and to help each other to follow them. 8
Konrad said we have a new slide. It tells people about the Board being a public meeting where we write down what people say and include people s names. Konrad said your information might be used in the minutes, reports and on the Board website. If anyone would prefer not to have their name written in the minutes, to please let him know. The information we might record includes; Names What you do at the Board 9
Where you are form Photographs and phone contact information; this would be paid staff only Konrad said for people to tell us if they do not want us to use this information. Konrad said he wanted to remind people of this because of Data Protection Rules. 10
3. Apologies - who couldn t come to the meeting People who couldn t come to the meeting are recorded on Page 7 of these meeting minutes. 4. Notes from the last Meeting (24 th May 2018) Councillor Tony Harper checked people had seen a copy of what was said at the last meeting. He said he would not be going through them page-by-page. He asked if anyone had any changes they wanted making to say which page it was and what needed changing. Ruth Harrison said she was at the last meeting but her attendance had not been recorded in the minutes. The minutes were agreed as a correct record. 11
5. Action Log What we said we would do, and What we have done Konrad Bakalarczyk went through the Action Log which said: Specialist Dentistry Konrad said we have a Working Group that is still to meet to look at the problems around dentistry in Bassetlaw with a representative from NHS England. Konrad said, the meeting planned for 23 rd July had been cancelled. The Working Group will now be meeting in September. John Parrott said he had been told the letters will be sent out by the end of the month to update people. 12
It was also mentioned that the NICE Guidelines says the longest time between people being seen is every 2 years. People agreed there are lots of issues around special dental services. Gary Watt said small steps are being made. Things are being worked on, such as what stops people being able to get transport to appointments. Councillor Tony Harper asked people if they were still happy with the way progress is being made. John Parrott said, no, it is taking a long-time and it feels like we are not getting to see what is really happening with these problems. Jan Harding said no one she knows has had a letter yet. 13
Councillor Tony Harper said we will have a chat outside the meeting and look at what we need to do to move things on. Direct Payments Konrad said the carers would like to carry on working with Cath Cameron-Jones around planned increases to Direct Payment money. Konrad said Adrian Hartley had talked to Cath Cameron- Jones over the telephone. 14
It was agreed for this item to be moved to the Progress Chart. Housing Plan Konrad said Jenni French will be coming to the Board meeting in September to talk to people about the Housing Plan. Konrad said Jenni has been to a Carers Group meeting and is also planning on going to the Service User Forum to tell people about this plan. Joint Strategic Needs Assessment JSNA Konrad said at the last meeting the Board agreed for Adrian Hartley to be the representative for the Board and carers to work with James Wheat. 15
Adrian Hartley said he had met with James Wheat. Adrian said James is still gathering information. It was agreed to keep this item on the Action Log for updates. Employment Konrad said Naomi Russell will be giving us a written update report. This will be in October. The Board agreed for this item to move to the Progress Chart. 16
Progress Chart Konrad said the Progress Chart has been put in your meeting papers. There were also copies displayed on the walls of the meeting room for people to look at. Alyson Fisk said the Carers Assessment and Care & Support Plans are 2 separate things. They need to be split up so people are not confused between the 2. Konrad agreed to change the Progress Chart. 6. The Board Theme. Keeping People Healthy - Marie McGahey Marie McGahey introduced herself and said she is a Primary Care Liaison Nurse Team Leader and a Team Leader for Acute Liaison Nurses at the Queens Medical Centre. 17
Marie said she wanted to tell you about today s Health theme and went through her presentation Marie talked about the NHS being 70 years old and said all of us will use some part of the NHS during our life in one way or another, such as doctors, dentists and hospitals. Marie said the NHS is a very BIG organisation with lots of different services. Some are very local, like your GP, and some might be further away like a hospital or specialist services. Marie said before the meeting we had a think about how we could explain how the Health Service works. 18
Marie said it isn t easy because it is a complicated service run by different people who are responsible for different parts of it. Marie said we have found a video which might help some of us understand how it all works a little better. The video talked about lots of different things, including Funding (money) What is a Clinical Commissioning Group is NHS Trusts Care Quality Commission (CQC) Working Together NHS 5 Year plan Joined up care 19
Marie said she hoped the video helped people to understand a little better about Health Services. Marie told people what each area of the Health Service does. She said most of the things you will have heard of before at Board meetings. NHS England NHS England leads the National Health Service (NHS) in England. They say what the priorities are for services. They help health services think and talk about what work they should be doing to improve health and care. 20
They want people to live longer, be healthier and have more control over their health and wellbeing. NHS England are also responsible for planning and buying some specialist health services, including: Community Dentistry, Opticians and Secure Mental Health Hospitals. Clinical Commissioning Groups or CCG s The Board often talks about these, but what do they do? They plan and buy most of the local health care services where people live locally. This includes community services, such as your GP and some services in community hospitals. 21
Nottinghamshire has 7 Clinical Commissioning Groups and they are: 1. Bassetlaw 2. Nottingham City 3. Nottingham North and East 4. Nottingham West 5. Mansfield and Ashfield 6. Newark and Sherwood 7. Rushcliffe 22
Primary Care Primary Care are the services that are based in the community. They are the 1 st people you go to see in the NHS, these include; Doctor GP s Dentists Pharmacies Opticians Podiatrists 23
Secondary Care These services are: Hospitals such as Kings Mill, Queens Medical Centre Specialist dentistry Marie talked about the table workshop session. She said last year we talked a lot about services in the community. This year we thought we would talk about services in hospitals and about reasonable adjustments and accessibility. 24
Marie asked the Facilitators to introduce themselves and what they will be doing and talking about. They were; Bassetlaw Hospital Facilitators: Gary Watt / Rachel Bussey Nottingham University Hospital (Queens Medical Centre + Treatment Centre and the City Hospital) Facilitators: Esther Avis / Jessica Gibbs Sherwood Forest Hospitals (Kings Mill, Newark and Mansfield Community Hospitals) Facilitator: Ruth Harrison Reasonable Adjustments what can you do to support other people to support you better with your health. Facilitators: Sam Atkinson / Sarah Robinson Treat Me Well campaign Mencap Facilitators: Bindya Mistry 25
Sarah Craggs talked a little about the table workshop sessions and said she thinks people will want to go to more than one table and this is okay. People agreed to have the tea break a little bit earlier, then come back and go straight into the table workshop session. Tea Break - Board members were reminded to look at the Action Log, Progress Chart and Burning Issues sheets on the walls. 7. The Board theme continued. Table Workshop Session Mark Taylor asked people to return to their tables and said there is a lot to get done. 26
Sarah Craggs welcomed everyone back to tables and quickly went over what we were going to do again. Sarah asked facilitators on each table to make sure people said where they are from and what their names are. Sarah said there will be time at the end of the session for feedback and for each table to have 1 action. But this action must be something we can do. 1st workshop session started. 27
Sarah asked people to move round to the next table they were interested in. 2nd table discussion session took place. 8. Time for each table to feedback to the whole group Sarah Craggs said for people to say what they had talked about on their tables. Sherwood Forest Hospitals (Kings Mill, Newark and Mansfield Community Hospitals) What people said was important: 1. We have worked hard to make our services better. 28
2. We have had an inspection that said things have got better. 3. We need to continue to check that what we are doing is still working. Nottingham University Hospitals (Queens Medical Centre + Treatment Centre and City Hospital) What people said was important: 1. Communication - people said we need different ways to do this well. 2. We need to make sure other staff in the hospitals know about us. We need to include this in training and use posters for information. Dianne Neal talked about health services looking at good practice around them. 29
Dianne said it would be good for staff to experience what it is like going to a hospital appointment from start to finish, even from getting a car parking space. This would help them see how well something is working. Bassetlaw Hospital What people said was important: 1. When a person is admitted to hospital with a learning disability, make sure the ward know they are coming (work with Michelle). 2. Share good practice liaison nurses to talk to each other. 3. Continue training in the hospital to support the needs of people with a learning disability. 30
Treat Me Well campaign Mencap What people said was important: 1. Share on Notts Help Yourself website. 2. Organise and have local workshops. Reasonable Adjustments what can you do to support other people to support you better with your health What people said was important: 1. Carry on telling people about the Patients Pledge. 31
2. Carry on getting staff to add a reasonable adjustment flag summary on care records. A flag is a way to let all staff who look at your records know that you have asked for your something to help make your visit better. 3. Letters sent out to people telling them about appointments should have a symbol showing what the appointment is about. People thought this was a good idea. 4. Continue to do training (to make things better). Councillor Tony Harper thanked people for taking part in the table workshop session. He said people had done a fantastic job in filling up information on the boards well done! Councillor Tony Harper said it is important to get all this information around the Board themes. 32
9. Questions and Open Forum Councillor Tony Harper asked if there were any questions. Donna Allsopp said she was happy with her team! Chris Belcher said he feels that he wasn t able to have a proper say at the table workshop sessions. Chris said he didn t feel he was listened to. Councillor Tony Harper said this is an important point and we don t want anyone feeling that they have not had a chance to have their say. We need to learn from this and it is something we can improve. Councillor Tony Harper and Mark Taylor closed the meeting and said the next meeting on 27 th September 2018 will be about Housing and the Housing Plan. 33
Dates for remaining Meetings in 2018: Thursday 27th September 2018 Thursday 29th November 2018 All meetings will take place in the Champions Suite, Everyday Champions Centre, Jessop Close, Brunel Close, Newark, NG24 2ER from 10 am until pm The website is at: Meetings are public so anyone can come along and see what we do.
