4 Subject: FW: Great Experience with SPS Officers This Morning From: Shawn Moen Sent: Wednesday, March 20, :48 AM To: McBride, Cameron (Police) Cc: Huisman, Randy (Police) Subject: Re: Great Experience with SPS Officers This Morning Hi Ins. McBride, We run a small business down on 20th Street West -between Avenues B and C, across from Odd Couple restaurant. I just wanted to drop you a note and comment on the very positive experience that I had with two of your officers this morning (stupidly forgot to grab their badge numbers!). These two constables were walking the beat at about 8:OOam in front of our shop, visiting with folks and just trying to better understand the community they were working in. I had a nice chat and pointed them to a few things that were of concern in the neighbourhood and other things that were working well. They were receptive, thoughtful and compassionate. I watched them chat with others and they repeated that same courtesy, empathy and interest. I walked away from the experience feeling both a sense of security and joint responsibility for the vitality of our community. I know police work like this isn't always intuitive from a resource allocation perspective when there are a bunch of competing priorities. I also know that a certain amount of attention has been paid recently to police/public interaction and matters such as "carding". However, I know from both my previous service as a Crown Prosecutor and my current front line involvement in a community such as Riversdale that this sort of community engagement by SPS really does make a difference from a perceived and actual public safety perspective. As a business operator in a rapidly changing part of town, I have been concerned recently that we could see a slide from recent gains in our neighbourhood and great community experiences without a continued good community presence by SPS and a joint approach to healthy neighbourhoods. My experience this morning did much to assuage those concerns, as I am sure it did for others. I was grateful to see Saskatoon Police Service interacting with our community this way this morning and am hopeful that initiatives like this will continue. You can let your officers know that there is always a warm cup of coffee waiting for them if I run into them while walking the beat on 20th (or if off shift, a cold beer at our brewery!). Thanks to you and your officers for your high quality service, Cheers Shawn Shawn Moen, LL.B, LL.M. CEO and Co-Founder Mobile:

Debby Sackmann on behalf of Joanne Sproule, City Clerk From: Lindee Larson [mailto:city.council@saskatoon.ca] Sent: Saturday, April 06, :03 AM To: City Council <City.Council@Saskatoon.ca> Subject: Form submission from: Write a Letter to Council Submitted on Saturday, Apri16, :03 Submitted by user: lindeelarson1234 Submitted values are: Date: Friday, April O5, 2019 To: His Worship the Mayor and Members of City Council First Name: Lindee Last Name: Larson Address: 104th St City: Saskatoon Province: Saskatchewan Postal Code: S7N Name of the organization or agency you are representing (if applicable): Subject: Cost of Criminal Record Checks Meeting (if known): Comments: The cost to receive a Criminal Record Check (CRC) done by the Saskatoon Police is a barrier to employment. Costs to receive a CRC are $45, or $75 if requiring a vulnerable sector search. These costs are huge. Those of us looking for employment cannot afford to spend $45 or $75 every time a prospective employer requires a CRC. Although multiple copies maybe given, employers require CRCs to be up to date. I urge City Council to allow employers to provide a letter which certifies a CRC is being used for employment purposes, similar to the letter that organizations requesting volunteers may provide. This letter will allow a job seeker to receive a CRC for no cost or a reduced cost. 6
7 Thank you for your consideration of this matter. Sincerely, Lindee Larson Attachments: The results of this submission may be viewed at: Saskatoon, ca/node/3 98/submission/
