This insures that the same help that you received will be available to others that are new to the Fellowship. Start this year, and make it an annual event. It is not how much you give that is important. It's thinking of others on your special day that makes it so special. Please make your check or money order to NVI (for Northern Virginia Intergroup -- And mention your number of years of sobriety). This is the fundamental work of AA, and to continue it the group must keep its doors open. The group treasurer is an important part of this Twelfth Step work.

I attended the above CPC Workshop at the VAC. There were about 25 attendees. An AA Member made the introductions and explained what we are, where we are, what we can do, what we cannot do. The first speaker was a professional having success referring alcoholics to AA. The second speaker was an AA member having success cooperating with the professional community. The third speaker was an AA member who found the program of AA through a professional. The fourth speaker was an Al-Anon member who found the program of Al-Anon through a professional. The Workshop was well organized, informative, and helpful. Corrections (corrections@nvintergroup.org): Dennis D. Arlington county jail is having a pass renewal for volunteers on November 17. Alexandria city jail asked for some literature for the library and I offered to get them some big books. Loudoun County had about a half a dozen lock down. No report from Prince William. Dennis report that Prince William was having regular orientations. If you re interested in writing an inmate; GSO is still screening prospects and that information can be received through the corrections committee at GSO. Bridging the gap program is doing pretty well in the Arlington county. I want to thank Irving M. for the Grapevine he brought from the 7:30 group. Still in need of the 10.5 size coffee cans for the pink can collection. Corrections Committee facilitates members participation in correctional facility meetings and maintains schedules of group and individual commitments for providing the AA member support to correctional institution meetings. Literature (literature@nvintergroup.org): Chris C. & Linda O. The Literature Committee attended the Virginia Area Conference and sold $1, of which $ was cash and $ was credit. It was quite a successful event!! Linda will need to step down as Co-Chair as she begins evening classes in pursuit of a new career. Interested parties can the literature committee or call Linda at Linda is very grateful to have served and will try to help at events through the end of the year. As always, if you need literature for your event, please us as early as possible so we can plan for coverage.

Only requirement is that you must be a member of AA and be willing to have published the appropriate joke or story. Make your submission to Pauline or myself at newsletter@nvintergroup.org or via post to the NVI office. Phone Watch (phones@nvintergroup.org): Mike S. Please always remind your home groups at your respective businesses meetings that we are always in need of phone volunteers. Please highlight the shifts that are marked in red on the report made available this evening. The requirement for volunteers is 1 year of continuous sobriety and to complete the training. The training is held the first Saturday of every month at 10:00 a.m. in the Intergroup office. Public Info (pi@nvintergroup.org): Larry P. Handing out literature where he lives and also at the local libraries. Will need help getting literature out where it would be hard for him to get it out. Asking for pamphlets from NVI for handing out and NVI agreed to help him with that endeavor. Also Pauline D. stated that there were some pamphlets at the office that from past PI chairs that were available for the current chair. Steering Committee (steering@nvintergroup.org): Mo M. No report Treatment/Special Needs/Accessibility (treatment@nvintergroup.org specialneeds@nvintergroup.org): Thursday August 25, 2016 meeting minutes. Attendees: Roger F., RobE, Justin, Wells, Mary Jane Looking for workshop ideas? The Treatment/Accessibilities/Special Needs committee is looking for opportunities to support workshops in 2016 being held in the NVI community. For further information, please contact aatreatment@nvintergroup.org. VAC 2016 Summer Convention: RobE co-chaired the Treatment panel at the VAC on Friday August 19 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston. Other members of the committee that attended said it went very well. RobE said there was full sign language interpreter coverage for the first time he could remember at a major event in Northern Virginia. RobE brought the news that the push to have the term Special Needs removed is moving forward. This could be a couple of years out, but the function of Special Needs would be continued under Accessibilities. TSNA will follow the lead of GSO since following GSO is what brought all three under TSNA in NVI to begin with. Treatment (Justin chair): Wells reported that the meeting at Courthouse in Arlington is going well and forwarded their report. in my opinion the meetings are progressing well. We have had continuous meeting on every Thursday evening at 7:30 pm at ASPAN Shelter located at 2020A 14th Street, Arlington, VA location since it's inception over two months ago with at least two members of AA from outside the shelter providing leadership and guidance. Update on the Adopt a Meeting initiative for the Living Sober Group: A group conscience was held on August 22 at the Living Sober Group Meeting held in the Regency Care Nursing Facility at 18th and Fern Streets, Arlington on Mondays at 7PM. This institution meeting has been suffering from low attendance. The Group unanimously voted to seek a regular AA meeting to adopt it. A group conscience was requested at the Out to Lunch Group on August 25, making a proposal to bring a meeting to the Living Sober Group once a month. The group conscience will be held September 14. Wells brought an amended sample letter for the group to review. This letter will be sent to some assisted living facilities in the NVI region. He will present this at the September NVI Board meeting. Justin is working a request from Dominion Hospital looking for support or getting literature/meeting. RobE discussed this at the VAC. There have been challenge because this is a psychiatric center. Institution has shot down proposals in the past since it is a lock down facility. His request was to see what literature they want first then move on to how we can help them. Justin agreed. Mary Jane thinks she may know someone in the program that could be of help and will work with Justin to make contact and move this forward. There is a meeting there Tuesday night at 8:30 already. Volunteers of America of Bailey s Crossroads is requesting assistance to establish a meeting there. There is a meeting currently taken in with neighborhood people. Need to become a member of the VOA to go into the meeting as RobE is. RobE will establish contact and see how a meeting can be set up allowing clients to attend. Accessibility (Mary Jane R. chair): Nothing new to add. Flyer was created and is available at NVI (and at the NVI monthly meeting). Special Needs (Roger F.): The fund from the Emergency Interpreter drive is at $671 as of the August NVI Budget report. Report was received via that the Reston meeting listed on the Special Needs page is no longer providing interpreters. With no other reports received, it will be requested to remove this from the page. Upon reflection, all meetings listed on the page will be removed pending guidelines. The next TSNA meeting will be September 22, 2016 at 7:00 pm at NVI. Website (website@nvintergroup.org): Steve C. Andrew P. (home group member of 7:30) continues to work on the upgrading/updating the Intergroup website and reaching finalization. He should have a staged version for viewing and once the template is viewed by Steve, Pauline, and Steve they can make decisions on what they have seen and decide to go live or not. As for the current business of the website; the flyers continue to be posted to the Intergroup website. Please make sure they are in the necessary format to be posted. LIAISON REPORTS WAIA: Ralph J.

I ll get a slot on the schedule as soon as I return. I found the training easy and uncomplicated and I recommend everyone take a shift for a time. It is a principal part of our primary purpose. The TSA committee has a very important opportunity to move forward on several fronts. I was please to participate in the VAC Convention at Reston. What a well done operation. The hospitality suite was bountiful and beautiful! I had a swell anniversary at Woodlawn with speakers Mike T., and Katie F., who brought decades of ES&H for all of us. I am unable to attend tonight, and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. ANNIVERSARIES Individual Anniversaries Celebrate Years Date Irving M. 25 August 16 Jimi S. 17 September 6 Nita T. 8 September 25 Jim McG 1 August 22 Jimmy V. 17 August 31 Group Anniversaries TMP in Vienna will be celebrating 29 years.
