3 MISSON To provide siblings of individuals with disabilities the information, support, and tools to advocate with their brothers and sisters and to promote the issues important to them and their entire families. Siblingleadership.org

5 CORE VALUES: We believe: Individuals with disabilities have the same rights as all members of society to dignity, respect and the opportunity to grow and to be productive members of their communities. Siblings of individuals with disabilities can have a powerful, positive impact on their siblings experiences, and are uniquely positioned to help ensure their present and future care in partnership with service organizations and government. In promoting the rights of our brothers and sisters, and of all individuals with disabilities, we are committed to advocating for policies and services that meet their needs. Siblings can be of great support to one another to enhance both our lives and the lives of our siblings.

8 Benefits of becoming a state chapter: Siblings matter The collective sibling voice gets larger with every new chapter and member Become part of the national sibling movement Opportunities to receive financial support and expert collaboration Provide direction for the Sibling Leadership Network Connect to other state chapters Become connected to local peers in a judgement free zone. Provide connections for state and local siblings

9 The SLN Affiliate Chapter Application outlines the following guidelines for state chapters: Agree to uphold the SLN s Mission, Purpose, and Core Values Agreement to support siblings of people with any type of disability Group that has coalesced for more than 6 months, has at least 3 members, and has a plan for future activities. Commitment to join the SLN s Join Us page Designate a sibling representative and an alternate to attend quarterly Chapter Committee meetings (by phone) and serve as a liaison to share information between the state chapter and the SLN nation network. Promote the SLN by joining, participating in committees, sharing information, using the SLN logo, and responding to requests for information.

10 Strategies for reaching other siblings: Connect with other state chapters Use social media (Look for The Sibling Leadership Network and Sibnet on Facebook) Attend local conferences and Sibshop trainings Connect with professionals and organizations that serve people with disabilities Attend the SLN National conference to meet other siblings from your state
