Our club accomplished a lot in We fed thousands at the weekly Community Dinner and hundreds on Thanksgiving. We gave thousands of dollars to local charitable organizations. We sent dozens of packages to troops overseas. We hosted students from Romania, Spain, Italy, and Argentina. We served our local friends and neighbors through the 9 Health Fair and Dictionary Project. Our Shelter Box efforts after the Haiti earthquake were remarkable! We extended our good works to Honduras, Mexico, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and beyond. Our scholarships, RYLA, and Interact activities impacted many young lives. And all of this is just the tip of the iceberg, as there is so much more. To get it all done, we volunteered countless hours and raised tens of thousands of dollars. Our BBQ, Car Raffle, Ice Melt, and other fundraisers were lots of fun, but also hard work for many devoted Rotarians. We have so much to be proud of, especially in light of these tough economic times. Together, we can make 2011 even better. Rotary Ambassador Program ROTARY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM Select two firms that you know as potential Rotary sponsors 2. the firm's name to BillSanders298@comcast.net 3.Do it today ROTARY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM FOR SPONSORS On November 23, Bill Sanders and David Preaus outlined this new program to involve every club member to help obtain sponsors for our fund raising events and community services. They asked every member to select two firms they knew and the firm's name to BillSanders298@comcast.net. Bill and David will filter the names for duplication and get back to the club member with verification. The club member will then make an appointment with the firm to offer them the opportunity to be a Rotary sponsor. You will receive all the talking points you need for your meeting with the prospective sponsor. OR, just 2
3 make the appointment and Bill will go with you and make the presentation ( Bill is more available than David who is running a business and raising a family). This Ambassador Program serves several purposes. It reminds each member that we all need to work together to get sponsors. It is just too big a job for one or two people. It also gives the Ambassador the opportunity to keep in contact with their two firms, if desired, to keep them informed of all the good things that Rotary does in the community. And, most importantly, let the firm's know that, " as a sponsor, they bring benefits to the community, through Rotary, that they could not do on their own". Committee Chairs - Please Read Below Any committee that is inviting non-paying guest(s) to attend a regular tuesday morning breakfast meeting should contact Seargeant of Arms - Mac Trench with a head count one week prior so that he can insure there is an adequate amount of food ordered and tables set up to accomodate. Youth Exchange Ski Weekend The Summit Rotary Club will again be hosting the Youth Exchange students in our district for a ski weekend in Summit County. The dates are January 28-30, 2011, and will again be s ponsored by Copper Mountain. We will need approximately 10 host families for the students for that Friday and Saturday, as well as guides/instructors to help get them get on the snow and around Copper Mountain depending on ability. This event is always one of the highlights for the students, and appreciate all that have helped with this in the past. To be a part of this year's ski weekend please contact Gary Wilkinson at garywilkinson68@aol.com or Youth Exchange Youth Exchange update: Three of our current outbound students are recording their experiences and photos on blogsites so that their friends, families, and Rotarians can follow along through their year abroad. It's easy and interesting to look through these sites. Let them know you enjoy reading about them! Alex Cuadrado Catalina Carrion-Kozak Sarah Johnson We are into the process of recruiting next year's outbound students, with applications and family interviews underway for four students and possibly a few more to come before the Nov.15 deadline. We'll need good host families for next year's inbound students and it's not too soon to start firming up those essential commitments. Please let Jim, Gary, or Karen know now if your family or the families of friends or neighbors might be interested. Let's talk!" Membership Information by Sandy Mortensen 3
