From the President: Kaaren s Comments Hello Everyone, It was great to see you all in September. The meeting was well attended and the flow of information, fellowship and food made for an evening that was both relaxing and worthwhile. As always, Sonie was a gracious hostess. At the program-planning Kaaren, Saundra, Mary Anne, and M arti meeting in June, there was discussion about at the State Executive Board Meeting the value of getting more of our members involved in DKG beyond our chapter meetings. Several opportunities were mentioned at the September meeting. Check elsewhere in this newsletter for information on the Fall Arts Retreat and the Council 8 Luncheon (both in November). In addition, as always, I encourage you to apply for AE State scholarships, mini-grants and travel grants. You may already have the brochure, but information and applications are available on the state website ( Looking further ahead, the state conference will be held in Lafayette on Saturday, April 28. Breakout session presenters are needed. Consider sharing with your DKG sisters your professional expertise or your knowledge related to your classroom experiences, your talents or hobbies. This application is online as well, or I can send it to you via or USPS. It is due by October 31. Omega officers are hoping that many of you will want to attend the conference. To endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to non-member women educators. 6. To stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action. 7. To inform the members of current economic, social, political and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society.

3 Membership Twenty- three members came to Sonie Bowers house for our September 13 meeting! Several of them were our newest members. Our programs are excellent and fellowship is superb. I have updated our ORIENTATION PACKET, which is ready for you to hand to your guests at the meeting or to your prospects ahead of time. Be sure to point out the Omega calendar and Member Application form, which are included. Our October 21, November 11, and December 5 meetings are excellent times for you to bring a guest. The November 11 Joint Council 8 Luncheon is a special event for your guest to experience DKG beyond the chapter, since it includes several DKG chapters in the Indianapolis area. Last year Marti Daily handed us a pictorial directory of our Omega members. Since then, we have 4 new members. They will be in the 2018 directory. You will receive a new directory next spring after EVERYONE in the chapter has filled out the new DKG OMEGA CHAPTER MEMBER UPDATE INFORMATION form and mailed it to Karon Duffield. Please find it attached to this newsletter or ask for one at the next meetings. Also attached to this newsletter are my summaries of our 12 newest members since Please read these summaries for 2 reasons: 1.) These examples may help you write up your own member update information. 2.) They will help you know our newest members better. After I have received all Omega members updates a team of us will write your information into paragraphs, then Marti will put them next to your picture for the 2018 directory. Kudos to Dr. Jamyce Curtis Banks for being named the Pass The Torch For Women 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year.
