Welcome and Introductions President Joy Leyeza welcomed the Chapter Leaders and gave some opening remarks about this year s goals for the chapter and challenges that the chapter faces. Membership growth and the chapter s financial stability were two key points. Board members introduced themselves and discussed what attracted them to become a Chapter Leader. 2. Community Service Plan Community Service Director, Marc Sangalang, discussed his plans for events by month and the budget for expenses and donations (see Attachment F: Approved Community Service Plan for ). The Union Mission community service event is set for Sep. 27 th and the Foodbank event will be held on Oct. 11 th. The proposed budget of $900 for Community Service was moved and adopted (see Attachment G: Approved Community Service Budget Plan for ). 1

2 The question was brought up regarding the Charity Golf Tournaments EquiKids and EDMARC Hospice whether or not we should continue to support these events since it is a big part of the budget and shows low interest among AGA members to participate in these events. It was decided to revisit this for next year since this year s events have already been funded. The organizer of these yearly events is Joe Rutecki, a retired member. 3. Chapter Recognition Awards Chapter Recognition Director, Sandra Brown, stated that she would send a soft copy of the Chapter Recognition plan to all board members. 4. Education Education CoChair, Connie Guzman, discussed the meetings scheduled for the upcoming year. The Institute of Management Accountants wants to have a joint meeting with us. The IMA joint meeting is scheduled for 11/19. The kickoff meeting is scheduled for 9/18. It was discussed that the chapter will try to provide 40 CPE s in the program year and the goal is to publicize how many CPE s we are offering as a recruitment tool. The Education plan was moved and adopted (see Attachment B: Approved Meeting & Education Plan for ). 5. Meetings and Publicity Meetings and Publicity Director, Traneisha BaileyWilliams, discussed her research and plans for meeting locations and meal options for the upcoming program year. The board discussed plans to have the September meeting at the Greenbrier Library. There is no cost for the meeting at the library and Taste Unlimited will deliver boxed lunches. There was discussion about holding the November meeting at the Founder s Inn. Tentative price of $20/person inclusive. Traneisha is trying to follow up to determine what inclusive means. It was proposed that January s meeting be held at the Langley Officer s Club to provide a location more convenient to members on the Peninsula. It was brought up that this is the joint meeting with ASMC and that they may be handling the planning of this meeting. This needed to be checked into further. April meeting (Audio Conference) may be held at the Virginia Beach Public Library. Lunches could be provided by Chick FilA or Jason s Deli. It was suggested that the Audio Conference be held at the Coast Guard Finance Center. 2

3 There was a discussion on other possible meeting locations to include ODU s Tri Cities Center, Carrabba s, Smokey Bones, and Chesapeake Rec. Center. The Meetings and Publicity plan and budget of $3,200 was moved and adopted (see Attachment B: Approved Meeting & Education Plan for ). 6. Membership Membership Director, Lushens McNamara, discussed her plans for the recruitment and retention of members. An AGA pamphlet will be provided in the new hires package at USCG Finance Center, for recruitment. Monthly Meeting Luncheon Incentives A drawing is to be held at each meeting for Nonmembers to receive a $10 membership discount. A drawing to be held each meeting for current members to receive a $10 membership discount to be used toward renewal. Discussed having Pizza Recruiting Luncheons at any agency or employer interested in having one. Could combine with a CGFM presentation. The idea of having Becker sponsor lunch for one of these recruiting luncheons or the joint meeting with ODU s MAAC was mentioned. Discussed allowing refunds before a specified cutoff date for events. Ellen mentioned that she believes 123 Signup charges a $1.00 fee per registration. The Membership plan and budget of $740 was moved and adopted (see Attachment C: Approved Membership Final Plan for CGFM CGFM Director, Tara Lambert, discussed her plans to promote and advance the CGFM certification. Suggested CGFM ribbons at the meetings to recognize CGFM s. Mentioned that awareness of CGFMs should be promoted in the newsletter, and that we should work to retain CGFM members since membership is not required. Discussed purchasing 2 CGFM study guides, 1 for the chapter to keep and 1 to be raffled off at the end of the year. The plan will be revised and sent to board members for approval at a later date (see Attachment A: Approved CGFM Final Plan for ). 8. Emerging Leaders 3

4 Emerging Leaders Director, Maxim Urenev, discussed the Young Professionals events planned for the upcoming year (see Attachment D: Approved Emerging Leaders Final Plan for ODU DOA Homecoming 5k run/walk is in question this year. ODU may not have this event if they cannot find anyone to take charge of it. ODU Accounting Career Fair to be held on 9/4. Only 2 can attend from the AGA. It was discussed that Lushens and Tara may possibly be the ones to attend this event. Discussed the challenges of getting NSU involved with the AGA, and going to a Fall and Spring Basketball game as activities for Young Professionals events. Possibility of having joint community service events with ODU s Beta Alpha Psi and MAAC. Plan to host the Young Professionals Happy Hour after the fall and spring PDT. Plan on awarding two scholarships of $500 each to students nominated by ODU faculty. Discussed opening the scholarship opportunities to other colleges and to non accounting majors. Discussed the Facebook and LinkedIn page for our chapter. Maxim stated he had set up a facebook page and LinkedIn page but was not good with updating them. It was brought up that we could have a Social Media Chair. Raymond and Krystle volunteered to update the social media pages until a Social Media Chair was filled. 9. Accountability Accountability Director, Curtis Joachim, talked about the Citizen Centric Report and his goal to have the City of Chesapeake submit a CCR this year. 10. Historian Ellen Silvela discussed that she would pick up where the previous historian left off. Plans to have more pictures from our events, by getting an SD memory card for the chapter. 11. ByLaws Steve Reagan discussed that he and his CoChair, Bill Gay, will review and make recommendations at a later time. 12. Webmaster Krystle and Joy discussed their goal to update the website and to solicit sponsors for the website. 4

5 13. Newsletter Joy discussed bringing back the Member Spotlight for the newsletter. Discussed adding two new sections to the newsletter My AGA Story and AGA Trivia. Meeting Adjourned at 8:30pm 5
