1 Carbomer (HV-505, HV-505HC, HV-504, HV-501, HV-505E, HV-504E, HV-501E, HV-505ED) AQUPEC HV-505, HV-505HC and HV-505E are excellent thickeners. They provide high viscosity even at concentrations lower than 1%. They are suitable for forming Hair gels, creams and shampoos. HV-504 and HV-504E can offer highest viscosity at over 1% concentration. The gels of these polymers are opaque compared with other AQUPEC series. HV-501 and HV-501E are ideal for thickening of fluids containing electrolytes and give extremely clear gels. 2 Generally, Carbomer has to be added carefully when dispersing to water because Carbomer is easy to become lump. Higher agitation and longer dispersing time are needed to prevent lumps. AQUPEC HV-505ED, which provides the similar viscosity level to HV-505, HV-505HC and HV-505E, is easy dispersion type. It can be used for forming clear gel and cream, instead of HV-505, HV-505HC and HV-505E. Table 1. shows good dispersibilities of HV-505ED under agitation. < 0 rpm > < 300 rpm > < 500 rpm > Table 1. 3 Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer (HV-501ER, HV-701EDR, HV-501EM, SER W-150C and SER W-300C) The gel viscosity and clarity produced with carbomer dramatically decrease when the electrolytes are added to the gel. This is the shortage of carbomer and can cause the restriction on cosmetic formulation. AQUPEC HV-501ER can improve this issue. It can provide stable viscosity and clear gel containing electrolytes. Hydro-alcoholic gels, cleansing gels and shampoos are suggested as application of HV-501ER. AQUPEC HV-701EDR is designed to be easy dispersion type of HV-501ER. The property of HV-701EDR is similar to that of HV-501EDR. It can also deliver efficient thickening effect in surfactant systems. figure 3. < Viscosity vs NaCl Conc. > Figure 3. shows viscosity data of 1% carbomer mucilage for various concentrations of NaCl. Electrolyte resistance series have the intermediate viscosity in between 505E and 501E without NaCl and have higher viscosity than 505E and 501E when 1% of NaCl is added. In general, the viscosity of copolymer shows a moderate decrease due to hydrophobic interaction for C10-30 alkyl group.

4 SER polymers are our original products. They have unique characteristics that viscosity and clarity are more efficiently maintained in the presence of electrolytes, compared with other electrolyte resistance polymer (HV-501EM). SER W-300C provide high thickening efficiency under NaCl solution lower than 2%, while W-150C higher than 2%. These properties are ideally suited for your formulation required higher level of viscosity and clarity under electrolytes. 5 Hair Gel AQUPEC polymers exhibit excellent thickening effect, so they can provide very high viscosity at low concentration. Also, the neutralized gels show very high transparency and high yield value in various hair gel formulations. Suggested grade:hv-501e, HV-505E Polymer concentration:0.5wt% Neutralizer:Tri Ethanol Amine (1). Formulation Ingredient Weight% PVP K-90 (ISP corp.) / Glycelin / Deionized Water 1.0 / 4.0 / 43.5 AQUPEC / Deionized Water 0.5 / % Tri Ethanol Amine 1.5 (2). Procedure 1. Add PVP K-90 and Glycerin into Deionized Water, and stirrer for 0.5 hour (Phase A). 2. Disperse AQUPEC into Deionized Water with vigorous agitation (5000 rpm). 3. Neutralize the dispersion with 50% Tri Ethanol Amine and mix until uniform (Phase B). 4. Add Phase A to Phase B with agitation and mix until uniform. (3). 7 Pearlized Conditioning Shampoo Acrylate copolymer, especially SER series can provide the dispersibility of pearl agent. Aiso, SER series can increase the viscosity and the stability to conditioning shampoo. Suggested grade:ser W-300C Polymer concentration:0.20wt% (1). 8 (2). Procedure 1. Disperse AQUPEC with vigorous agitation (5000 rpm) and Heat the dispersion to 60ºC. 2. Add the solution of Sodium Laureth Sulfate / Potassium Hydroxide and mix for 5 minutes at 60ºC. 3. Add the solution of Pearlizing Agent and mix for 5 minutes at 60ºC. 4. Add the solution of Sodium Benzoate / Disodium EDTA and mix for 5 minutes at 60ºC. 5. Add Cocamidopropyl Betaine and mix for 5 minutes. 6. Add Citric Acid and cool to 40ºC with agitation. (3). Product properties Dispersibility of pearl agent: excellent ph: Viscosity: 15,000 20,000 mpa s Stability: Passed 10 days at 40ºC SER W-300C is very useful as a dispersant for pearl agent. SER series (W-300C and 150C) have different various characteristics from other acrylate copolymers.

Dissolve Ethyl Alcohol into Deionized water. 2. Add AQUPEC with agitation (500 rpm) for 5 hours. 3. Neutralize the dispersion with Tri Ethanol Amine and mix until uniform. (3).
