2 CINCINNATI CHILDREN S HOSPITAL MEDICAL CENTER Cincinnati Children s is nationally recognized as a leader in pediatric health care with a reputation for excellence in patient care, research and teaching programs. Clinical procedures and treatments pioneered at Cincinnati Children s are used throughout the world. The impact of our medical research breakthroughs has improved pediatric health today and will for generations to come. This conference, sponsored by the Division of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy, is part of our ongoing education services to directors, managers and clinicians both in our community and nationwide. CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION This three day intensive conference will provide the attendee with the knowledge and skills necessary for therapists to meet the demands of today s healthcare environment regarding documentation, coding, billing, and compliance. It will also provide the resources and education to understand advancements in developing clinical programs and how these changes impact clinical care. In addition, conference attendees will be able to network with clinical directors and managers from across the U.S. and Canada. There will be an opportunity for informal sharing among participants. Conference attendees are encouraged to bring information about their therapy programs to provide opportunities for benchmarking and collaboration. LEARNER OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to: Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for therapists to meet the demands of today s healthcare environment regarding documentation, coding and billing compliance Discuss the evidence and trends in the U.S. related to pediatric care Demonstrate knowledge of the complexities of clinical practice guideline implementation

6 CONFERENCE COORDINATOR AND FACULTY Rebecca Reder, OTD, OTR/L, is the senior clinical director of the Division of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy at Cincinnati Children s and assistant professor at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. At Cincinnati Children s, Dr. Reder provides vision and leadership for a division with services in 11 locations and a staff of over 250. Under her direction, the Division of OT/PT has grown to be one of the largest and most respected in the country. Mark V. Paterno PT, PhD, MBA, SCS is a physical therapist and Professor within the Division of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy and the Division of Sports Medicine at Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. As a clinical scientist, Mark has over 65 publications and 10 book chapters which focus on the area of outcomes after Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction and pediatric sports medicine and he has lectured internationally on these topics. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Helene Fearon, PT, FAPTA will provide the most up-to-date information on the payment environment for rehab services provided in the outpatient setting. Attendees will learn about payment reform efforts as applicable to physical therapy practice and what the future may hold in context with health care reform initiatives impacting payment across healthcare. The first step towards change in payment methodology will be described with a presentation on the recently revised PT and OT evaluation/re-evaluation codes. Christine A. Metzler, Chief Public Affairs Officer for AOTA will join Ms. Fearon in this presentation, which will provide insights into the use of complexity of the patients presentation to guide PT and OT care and payment. Ms. Fearon s, information and discussion will also include additional aspects of payment policy reform and various efforts to demonstrate the value of physical therapy services. Updates will be provided regarding other therapy coding issues, documentation tips and compliance alerts. Attendees who are responsible for coding and billing of services will learn the best ways to respond to current and changing payment policy in the out-patient setting.
