Wh lks utside, dreams. Wh lks inside, awakens. Carl Jung Curse Descriptin: AP Psychlgy is a year lng curse, with the purpse f preparing students fr the Advanced Placement Psychlgy exam. It is designed t be as challenging as a cllege intrductry psychlgy class. This curse requires a great deal f independence and dedicatin t study utside f class hurs. Students will be intrduced t the systematic and scientific study f the behavir and mental prcesses f human beings and ther animals. Included is a cnsideratin f the psychlgical facts, principles, and phenmena assciated with each f the majr subfields within psychlgy. Students als learn abut the ethics and methds psychlgists use in their science and practice. It is expected that the pace f this curse will be brisk and students will be invested in cmpleting all assigned wrk in an effrt t be prepared fr the AP exam. Textbk/Reading: Myers, David G. Myers Psychlgy fr AP, 2e editin. New Yrk: Wrth, Additinal readings required thrughut the curse will be supplied by the instructr. The AP Exam: Mnday May 1, Nn The exam will take place May 6th and will include: One 70 minute multiple chice sectin (@100 questins) which cmprises 2/3 f the ttal grade This sectin is designed t assess the breadth f yur knwledge f the subject. The questins cver the 14 areas f scientific psychlgy cvered in the curse.. In sme questins, yu are asked t demnstrate yur understanding f a psychlgical term (e.g., gentype, echic memry, mania, phnemes). In thers yu are asked t apply cncepts frm a particular psychlgical thery (e.g., Khlberg's thery f mral judgment, attributin thery) r t identify the theretical framewrk with which a given explanatin is assciated (e.g., an explanatin f depressin in terms f nrepinephrine levels). Other questins are designed t assess general understanding f the scientific methd as well as knwledge f findings frm majr research studies r areas f study. Ttal scres n the multiple- chice sectin are based n the number f questins answered crrectly. Pints are nt deducted fr incrrect answers and n pints are awarded fr unanswered questins. One 50 minute free respnse sectin (2 prmpts) which cmprises 1/3 f the ttal grade. The free-respnse sectin tests yur ability t make cnnectins amng cnstructs frm a number f the 14 cntent dmains cvered in the curse. There are tw questins in the free-respnse sectin. Each questin incrprates cncepts frm a number f dmains. The questins ften invlve applicatin, analysis, synthesis, r a critique f psychlgical principles. In 2012, 220,361 students tk the exam and 66.2% f the test takers achieved a passing grade f 3 r better with a mean scre f The average scre at BHS n the 2013 AP Psych test was 4.524, with 71% f students receiving a 5!!!! Grading: Please remember that grades are earned nt given and reflect the fulfillment f curse requirements and bjectives. Grading will be based n a simple pint scale (number f pints earned divided by ttal pints ffered) and letter grades will fllw the percentages psted in the student handbk. Assignments will include unit tests and quizzes as well as vcabulary and a variety f class wrk, and prjects (individual and grup). The frmat f the tests and quizzes will be: AP- style multiple chice questins and vcabulary definitins Free respnse questin(s) (written respnses; graded using Cllege Bard style rubrics) All tests may ask students abut any infrmatin presented in the test r previusly during the semester. Mst quizzes will cntain vcabulary terms, AP- style multiple chice questins and/r specific questins frm the reading.
