2 Partial Discharge Workshop Partial discharge (PD) is the earliest key indicator for insulation deterioration in electrical devices that are subjected to high voltages. PD can lead to the total destruction of the insulation materials if not detected in time. This is why PD measurement has gained a lot of significance over the past decades. Meanwhile, high voltage (HV) PD measurements with diagnosis faces a number of challenges: 1) Discrimination between disturbances and PD 2) Separation of various PD sources 3) Interpretation and analysis of the measured results With the help of state of the art technology, the above challenges can be overcome and an effective PD measurement can be performed both offline and online at the high voltage assets operating location. This enables the asset managers, manufacturers and field service engineers to quickly detect, assess and locate faults, enabling them to successfully prevent breakdowns from occurring. This workshop aims at providing the knowledge needed in order to help the audience to learn about the essentials of partial discharge measurement. These advanced techniques of PD measurements on transformers, cables and rotating machines help the asset owners with risk management of these high voltage assets. The workshop is a three-day program, consisting of lecture, followed by some practical sessions to demonstrate the latest measurement and testing techniques. PD online monitoring of the HV assets will also be introduced so that the participants can also learn about the benefits of these latest technologies available for HV asset management. Target Audience Asset management, industry experts, high voltage engineers, academic scholars and consultants in power and transportation utilities, factories, service companies, universities and research institutes who are involved in the design, installation, maintenance and diagnosis on the high voltage assets in the national or corporate-level power system.

He has been associated with OMICRON for more than a decade and has extensive knowledge and experience in diagnostic testing of high voltage electrical assets, including large power transformers and power system secondary assets including protection & metering devices. He is an active member of NSC B5 CIGRE India and has represented OMICRON in a number of national & international forums. Seokhoon Hong is the Regional Application Specialist on Partial Discharge for OMICRON in the Asia-Pacific Region. He has been working at OMICRON since 2011 as application engineer with special focus on testing and diagnostic solutions for primary assets. He studied and received his bachelor s degree and master s degree in electrical engineering at MyungJi University and HanYang University, Korea. Before joining OMICRON, Seokhoon worked as an electrical engineer in the power plant engineering department at POSCO E&C for three years.
