Language of teaching the course 2 English 1 Study level/year at which this course is offered 5 th Pre requisite (if any) PHT 282 & PHSL 253 Location of teaching the course Co requisite (if any) (B) Course Description This course introduces the basic pharmacological principles applicable to all drugs including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacotherapeutics. It also covers the pharmacology of peripheral neurotransmitters, therapeutic uses and adverse effects of drugs acting on autonomic nervous system, both sympathetic and parasympathetic. Additionally, pharmacology of autacoids and their antagonists are discussed. (C) Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to: 1) Recognize the basic principles of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamicc properties of drugs. 2) Identify the drug groups affecting autonomic nervous system directly or indirectly, their therapeutic uses and adverse drug reactions. 3) Outline the basic principles of autacoids functions and therapeutic uses of their analogues and antagonists. 4) Investigate the effects of drugs on laboratory experimental animals.
