Credit Units 3 Units' Type Theo. 2 Prac. 1 Language of teaching the course English Study level/year at which this course is offered 4 th Pre requisite (if any) Co requisite (if any) Location of teaching the course (B) Course Description This course covers preparation of drugs from natural sources, their proper collection, drying, storage and marketing according to official standards. Study of the morphological and anatomical features of drugs obtained from different plant organs in their entire and powdered form. Also, it studies the active constituents, uses and toxicity. (C) Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to: 1) Describe the medicinal plants in terms of their types, ways of collection, drying, storage, and adulteration. 2) Identify the different classes of natural products, their chemistry and pharmacological actions. 3) Outline the morphological and histological structures of different organs of medicinal plants. 4) Discuss the role of these medicinal plants in the treatment of different disease conditions, toxicity and dosage range. 5) Evaluate many medicinal plants microscopically in both their entire and powdered forms.
