Martin Conference Center of the Harvard Medical School, Boston MA from June 22 24, The conference was organized by the Indo US Health Initiatives, Inc. in partnership with the Consulate General of India, New York; Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; S-VYASA, India; OSHER Center for Integrative Medicine of Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston; Boston Center of Excellence, Institute of Advanced Sciences; Boston Ayurveda,Inc. Over 50 eminent researchers, scientists and health care experts both from modern and traditional healthcare sectors shared their knowledge and experience. There were over 300 participants from 17 nations including doctors, nurses, therapists, yoga and Ayurveda practitioners. Several of the participants presented their research in poster or oral presentations. Several keynote speakers gave talks on topics such as role of Yoga and Ayurveda in maintaining and restoring health and curing of diseases, ways to integrate Yoga and Ayurveda into the mainstream integrative medicine system, and to further research to gather more scientific evidences.

3 Jun 22 The Inaugural Program was started at 9:00 am with a welcome note by Mr. Kanchan Banerjee, Managing Director, Boston Center of Excellence for Health and Human Development (BoCE), Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty, Consul General of India, New York spoke on, 'Sustainability Inside Out: The Significance of the Culture of Yoga.' Dr. Vikas Sukhatme, Dean, Emory University Medical School gave a keynote speech about untapped opportunities for Cancer Treatment and the need for affordable medical innovation. As a Special Address Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda, Founder, Yoga in Daily Life spoke on 'Yoga in daily life for physical, social and mental health'. The chair person of the inaugural session, Dr.H.R. Nagendra, President S-VYASA concluded the session with his remarks, 'there is pressing need for the integrative medicine practice.' Dr. Dinesh Patel, Former Chair of Board of Registration in Medicine and Emeritus Chair of Arthroscopic Surgery, MGH chaired the next session on 'Genomics of Integrative Oncology'. Presenters were Dr. Manoj Bhasin, Co-Director, Genomics, Proteomics, Bio Informatics and Ystems Biology Center, BIDMC and Dr. Shyam Mahapatra, Distinguished Professor and Director of Nanomedicine Research Center of University of South Florida. This was followed by Symposium titled, 'Application of Ayurveda in Oncology & Palliative Care', was Chaired Dr. Manoj Nesari, Advisor, AYUSH Ministry. Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Director, Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, Pune, India. Dr. Manoj Sharma, Professor emeritus, Department of Radiotherapy, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, Dr. P.R. Ramesh, Head of Clinical Research, Cancer and Palliative Care, Arya Vaidya Sala Hospital and Research Center, Kerala, India, presented their interesting research with promising findings. A keynote session was chaired by Dr. Darshan Mehta, Medical Director, Benson Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine. The keynote was delivered by Dr. Marc Halpern, Founder President of California College of Ayurveda on 'The Role of Ayurveda in Integrative Oncology'.Next, Symposium on, 'Yoga Therapy in Cancer & Palliative Care' was chaired by Dr.NK Manjunath,Director of Research, S-VYASA. Motivating and thought-provoking presentations were made by Dr. Neha Vapiwala, Yoga and Radiation Oncology, University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Suzanne Danhauer, Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Social Sciences and Health Policy in the Division of Public Health at Wake Forest, PA, Dr. Raghavendra Rao, Health Care Global Commentator, Dr. Darshan Shankar, Vice-Chancellor, Transdisciplinary University (TDU), India, said that these evidence based research studies are going help build a stronger integrative medicine area. 4 Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty After coffee break, Chief Guest of the program Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President, ICCR, New Delhi, presented a keynote address on, 'Role of Yoga in world peace and progress' and the Chair of the session, Dr. Gururaj Mutalik, Former Dean, Pune University Medical School said that the ancient science of Yoga has the ability to readily equip humans to reinstate world peace, environmental sustainability, as well as harmony amongst individuals, communities, religions and nations, but in modern times, Yoga has unfortunately come to mean only physical exercise or posture, which needs to be modified. Ms. Natasha Verma, anchor of local NBC channel 10 shared her personal experience as a cancer survivor and expressed her testament about how Yoga helped her in recovering from cancer. Closing Session Chair, Dr. Timothy McCall, Researcher, bestselling author of 'Yoga as Medicine', medical editor of Yoga Journal, made his remarkable comments,'yoga as Medicine offers a wealth of benefits' after Dr. Anusha Sehgal, President, Boston Ayurveda Inc. Dr. Vikas Merchia, IMANE presented their closing remarks. He explained what yoga does and who (virtually everyone) can benefit from it and provided practical information. 5 Jun 23 The early morning session began with a meditation session guided by Dr. H R Nagendra (Yoga Teacher of the Prime Minister of India). The morning Plenary Session started with the introductory remarks by Dr. John Denninger, Director, Benson-Henry Institute, MGH and Keynote speakers, Dr. Hari Sharma, Professor, Ohio State University who spoke on 'Application of Ayurveda in the Modern Healthcare System' and Dr. Darshan Shankar, Vice-Chancellor, Transdisciplinary University (TDU), India, talked about, 'Imperative to create Trans-Disciplinary platform for advancement of health sciences in the 21st century.' Dr. Purnima, Founder, Health is Wealth Foundation, chaired session and made the announcement of the release of a book entitled 'The Dynamic DNA' by Dr. Hari Sharma. Dr. Darshan Mehta, Mr. Kanchan Bannerjee, Dr. John Denninger Dr. Purnima, Dr. H.R.Nagendra, Yogi Amrit Desai, Dr. Balram Singh, Dr. Dinesh Patel Dr. Hari Sharma Two Workshops and one Oral Research Presentations were conducted simultaneously in different venues from late morning to evening. In the rotunda, Dr. Timothy McCall, Researcher and Author, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai, Chairman & CEO, Systems Health talked about Systems health: Your body, your systems, and Yogin and the Vaidya in the Ethics Committee by Dr. Jay Glaser, U Mass Medical School, presented their stimulating and fascinating researches and thoughts. In the Pechet Room, Dr. Sivarama Prasad Vinjamury, SCU on 'Ayurvedic Nutrition in Cancer Venue'; Dr. Neil Patel, Asst. Prof., University of Minnesota School of Medicine on 'Ayurveda, Yoga and Longevity Venue' presented their exciting research findings and created interest in the audience about the future researches. In the Bray Room, Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, Pune, India, chaired the session. Dr.Daniel Hall on 'Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Mind-Body Interventions for Fear of Cancer Recurrence'; Dr. Malvina Garner on 'Yoga and its structural effect on the brain'; and Dr. Raj Kumar on 'Osmium sanctum: A Source of Holistic Treatment for Neuro fibroma' presented their fascinating findings to the audiences. In the second part of the session, Dr. Manoj Bhasin, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, chaired the session with presenters: Dr. Jerry Solfvin on 'Meditation as Medicine for the Community'; Dr. Sangeeta Shukla on 'Green synthesis therapeutics: an emerging treatment modality for cancer'; Dr. Alpana Sharma on 'Herbal extracts: An emerging adjuvant therapies in Multiple Myeloma'; Dr. Tina Luberto on 'A systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects of meditation on empathy, compassion, and prosocial behavior'; Dr. TN Sathyaprabha on 'Yoga therapy for stress management in patients with cancer.' Their findings created a hope in the scientific community that integrative medicine is going to grow faster in the coming years.

6 Dr. Balram Singh, Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar, Dr. Gregor Kos, Dr. Geetha Krishnan The afternoon Symposium on 'Policy Impact on Future of Ayurveda and Yoga' was chaired by Dr. Balram Singh, Chairman, Boston Center of Excellence for Health and Human Development. The presenters included Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar, Ayurvedic Doctor and Researcher, Dr. Geetha Krishnan, Technical Officer, Traditional Complementary and Integrative Medicine Unit, WHO, Geneva, and Dr. Gregor Kos, Former Secretary General Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, Republic of Slovenia. The 'Ted Style Talk' session was chaired by Dr. Marc Halpern, California College of Ayurveda. Inspiring and enlightening talks were given by Dr. Mihir Kamdar, Co-Director, MGH Cancer Pain Clinic and Palliative Care on 'New Frontiers of Palliative Care with Yoga and Ayurveda, Dr. Sat Bir Khalsa, Mind-Body Medicine Researcher, Harvard Medical School and Dr. Shuvendu Sen, Director of Medical Student Education, Raritan Bay Medical Center and author: 'Why Buddha never had Alzheimer's: A holistic treatment Approach through meditation, Yoga and the Arts'. Closing Session of the day was Chaired by Darshan Mehta, Medical Director, Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at MGH. Dr. Ariana Vora, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, Harvard Medical School; Dr. Indranill Basu-Ray, Cardiologist & Interventional Electro physiologist, CHI St. Vincent infirmary, Arkansas, spoke on their current work and shared their work experiences. 7 June 24 The last day's morning session started at 7:30 am with guided Meditation by Yogi Amrit Desai. After the breakfast, the Plenary Session was Chaired by Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Mind Body Medicine Researcher, Harvard Medical School. Mr. Yogi Coudoux, Guinness world Record holder and Yoga Guru from France, Cancer Survivor Gautami Tadimalla, famous Indian Actress, Mr. Dayashankar Vidyalankar, Yogacharya, Consulate General of India, NY, presented their special speeches on the role of Yoga and Ayurveda in Cancer, Palliative care and other health care fields as well. In the next Symposium, Dr. Richard Fletcher, MIT Media Lab presented his paper on 'Integrative medicine and role of Information Technology' and Mr. Pramit Maakoday, Indo US Health Initiatives; Mrs. Haimanti Banerjee, Boston Children's Hospital talked about their projects and presented their experiences and challenges. Another Symposium on Health Care Policy in India Healthy Smart Villages and Cities was chaired by Dr. Pratibha Shah, Council on Ayurvedic Research. Dr. Manoj Sharma, Professor Department of Radiotherapy, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi; Mr. Ajit Kesari, Principal Secretary, Madhya Pradesh, India, spoke on the current developments and challenges in the health care system of India and suggested some recommendations for new policy making. Dr. Manoj Bhasinchaired the Valedictory Session and Dr. H.R. Nagendra, President S-VYASA, and Yogi Amrit Desai, Founder, Amrit Yoga Institute said that evidence-based researches on Yoga and Ayurveda, interdisciplinary dialogues, models, courses, communications in the Eastern and Western medicine practitioners are very important for the development of integrative medicine area. Closing Session was chaired by Kanchan Banerjee, Indo US Health Initiatives, and Dr. Bal Ram Singh, Institute of Advanced Sciences, Dartmouth, MA thanked all the participants and sponsors of the program and concluded the conference by saying a considerable amount of information is collected from the contributors of this conference, and exciting moments lie ahead for integrative medicine. Apart from organizing three international conferences on this subject, the organizers, in the form of a resolution announced the formation of the Boston Center of Excellence for Health and Human Development to advance research in various areas of life to bring together ancient knowledge from India and modern science. 8 June 24 An Evening with scientists, celebrities, and music with Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan under the theme, Yoga, Ayurveda, Music come together to Explore Integrative Health and Medicine at MIT's Kresge Auditorium was organized in theeveningas the grand finale of the 3-day event. The format was a dialogue with scientists and scholars in Integrative Medicine together with musical magic in life. Several hundred people in the audience enjoyed the entire program arranged for creating awareness about integrative medicine, Yoga, Ayurveda and cancer. The program started with the panel discussion 'dialogue' comprised of a galaxy of experts in the field, namely Dr. H R Nagendra, a former NASA scientist Founder and, Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore (S-VYASA) Deemed University, Dr. Gregory Lewis Fricchione, Director of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Vikas Sukhatme, a distinguished physician-scientist, current dean of Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Marc Halpern, a pre-eminent practitioner and teacher of Ayurveda in the United States, Dr. Shuvendu Sen, Director of Medical Student Education, Raritan Bay Medical Center, Yogi Amrit Desai, a pioneer of yoga in the West. They discussed cohesively on need and reasons for the integration of modern medicine with other alternative medicines and Yoga to provide the cure and quality of life to the patients because of non-affordable health care cost, no cure for non-communicable diseases, lack of holistic approach, etc. Dr. Balram Singh, Director, Institute of Advanced Sciences, moderated the discussion and summed up by saying that there is a need for the new health care policies that consider alternative medicines and Yoga as part of the present health care system, and allows both primary healthcare provider and alternative medicine practitioners to work together in the best interest of the patient. 9 Mr. Kanchan Banerjee, Director of Indo US Health Initiatives thanked the audience for supporting their mission to promote yoga and Ayurveda as part of Integrative Medicine. Later, Yogi Coudoux from France, spoke to the audience about his love for Yoga since his childhood. For many years, he has traveled the world, spreading the message of Yoga in order to reveal its extraordinary capacities on the human body, mind, and soul. He was born in 1946 in Tibet and later moved to Paris, France. He demonstrated on the stage the flexibility of his body and how he can shape his body's structure by controlling breath. He also said that Yoga offers a range of treatments that cover all the needs of your body and mind, and promises long-term wellness through selfknowledge and the mastery of self. Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan Ji, Shri Amaan Ali Bangash and Shri Ayan Ali Bangash The concert was presented as the finale at the concluding event of the Integrative Medicine conference. Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan Ji was accompanied by his two sons: Shri Amaan Ali Bangash and Shri Ayan Ali Bangash. Shri Khan presented two beautiful bhajans that were very dear to Mahatma Gandhi as opening notes of the concert and dedicated them to the World Peace and Yoga Day celebration. As the ragas developed, the audiences were drawn into its tunes and rhythms, and an absorbed meditation charged the audiences and the players. As his ragas progressed to its faster and more vibrant parts, audience just enjoyed the sound and the magic of his fingers. All the performers on the stage were very gifted and talented musicians who brought out the voices and souls of their instruments. With their music, they transformed the audience's life into an extraordinary experience. It was one of the most purifying and revitalizing spiritual experiences of my life.
