1 South Central Los Angeles Regional CenterOutreach 2012 January January 10- Family Resource Center Staff, in collaboration with the Fair Housing Foundation held a parent education group on Renters Rights. January 17- Autism Community Liaison attended the 1st Autism Community Advisory Board (CAB) Los Angeles, CA Goal is to build community capacity is the ability of a particular community to address important issues using resources found within that community. We could significantly add to those resources just by identifying what those issues are and contributing other useful knowledge. January 18- Family Resource Center Program Manager and Family Resource Center Parent Advocate held Parent Education Trainings in English and Spanish on Communication & Language Development in Infant and Toddlers. January 20- Family Resource Center Program Manager participated in a panel discussion on the PRRS at LACOE s EISS meeting. January 24 - Clinical Nurse Manager and Consumer Advocate presented at Watts Health Center on SCLARC services and referral process. January 24- Family Resource Center Staff in collaboration with the Office of Clients Rights Advocacy held a parent education group on Changes to the Lanterman Act. January 25- Autism Community Liaison attended the Autism Society of Los Angeles. Adults and Autism and focused on housing, employment, and quality of life issues surrounding adults with autism. The challenges, goals set for the future, developing model adult programs, housing and policies as well as strategies to implement them. This forum was intended to help shape recommendations for the future and guide efforts to advocate for these proposals with policymakers. January 26- Education Specialist attended the DCFS Collaborative Planning Meeting. February February 1- Family Resource Center Parent Advocate held Parent Education training in English on Introduction to the IEP and Special Education in Collaboration with Christine Armand, Office of Clients Rights Advocacy. February 2- Family Resource Center Program Manager participated in a community meeting for Best Start West Athens. February 2 & 16-Family Resource Center Program Manager and Family Resource Center Parent Advocate held Early Start Transition trainings in English and Spanish.
2 February 14- Family Resource Center Program Manager on collaboration with the Clinical Dental Consultant and R. Dental Assistant held a dental screening on site. February 15- Family Resource Center Program Manager participated in a leadership group meeting for Best Start West Athens. February 16- Education Specialist attended the Family Resource Center/ Healthy Start Collaborative Meetingat Tom Bradley Elementary School. February 22- Autism Community Liaison attended the Autism Alliance Interagency Collaboration meeting (SCLARC) Autism Alliance Collaborative quarterly meeting that is attended by SCLARC vendors, community partners and advocates. This monthly the AA proudly hosted Autism and Medication training conducted by Dr. Chris Obrien on Medication Management with person with Autism. February 22- Family Resource Center Program Manager participated in First5 LA Strategic Council Meeting at Junior Blind. February 23- Family Resource Center Program Manager participated in a community meeting for Best Start West Athens. February 28- Family Resource Center Staff, in collaboration with the SCLARC Clinical Department, held a parent education group on Communication in Autism. February 29- Family Resource Center Staff held an Early Start FRC Advisory Board Meeting. A special presentation of Coverage for Autism related services through health Insurance seminar was presented by special guest speaker Fran Goldfarb M.A. MICHES, Director of Family Support at USCUCEDD CHLA.
