2 Welcome! th We are delighted to invite you to EANS2016, the 16 European Congress of Neurosurgery, which will take place in Athens, Greece, from September 4 8, We are thrilled that so many eminent speakers have agreed to join us; in keeping with our congress theme, ' From the Classics to the future ', we aim to bring you the best of European and worldwide neurosurgery, spanning both the older and the younger generations, and established and innovative techniques. A full list of keynote speakers is available on the last page. There will be significant opportunity for delegates to share their own work, both through oral presentations and via posters. And, for the first time, the EANS is very pleased to be able to fund Travel Awards for young neurosurgeons who would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial constraints for more details see page 6. Athens is an ideal congress destination, offering high quality conference facilities in a unique atmosphere. The Megaron, the venue for EANS2016, is in the heart of the city, close to hotels, restaurants and important cultural landmarks. 11 About the EANS The European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) is a fast-developing independent association, both of European neurosurgical societies and of individual neurosurgeons from all over the world. Our mission: to be the primary advocate for neurosurgery, neurosurgeons and their patients in Europe and beyond. Our objective is to enable our members to enhance the care they deliver to their patients by facilitating the exchange of scientific information at the highest level.
