Dates: April 2017 Indonesia Construction/ Sunday School Teacher Training Individual Costs: Approx. $775. This includes food, lodging, in country transportation, and travel/health insurance. This is an estimated cost and does not include international flights, and is based on a team of 10 people for 10 days in country. Project Costs: $4879. This includes materials needed for construction of the building including labor costs as well as a $2,000 direct donation to the ministry center to support ongoing missions. This is a shared cost between all team members. Project Description: Partner with LHM Indonesia in working alongside locals to help construct a multi purpose building in Adipala Cilacap, Central Java. In 2013, LHM Indonesia began reaching out to children in this area by organizing a school ECD Cipta Smart. The aim is to reach children from all walks of life, especially the Islamic religion and be a means of evangelism to the tribe of Banyumasan. The school has provided an open door for LHM outreach programs. The new multi purpose construction will be used for teaching students, serve as a library, Sunday school teacher training, training facility for kindergarten teachers, and a location for LHM to carry out their programs for sharing the message of Christ with the Banyumasan tribe in this area. The team will also provide training for teaching Sunday school lessons. Project Location: Indonesia is an independent republic that is made up of 17,500 islands, also known as an archipelago. The islands are spread over 3,400 miles along the equator. The driest season occurs from May to September with temperatures averaging 82 F all year. The area where the project will take place is in a Regency of Cilacap, Banyumas, Central Java Province located approximately 240 miles southwest of Jakarta along the Indian Ocean. The team will arrive into Jakarta and travel to Adipala Cilacap by train.

You must also budget for your international flights, immunizations, $35 visa fee (can be purchased upon arrival into Indonesia for a 30 day visa), miscellaneous costs, sightseeing and souvenirs. Airport tax should be included with your flight costs. Be sure to check this when booking your flights. The budget is an estimate and your team may choose to eat more or less expensive, which would alter your budget. We generally over budget as much as possible so you do not run short of funds; we encourage you to have some extra funds available. It would also be wise to carry a small amount of additional contingency funds for any medical emergencies or unexpected costs that may occur. If using a credit or debit card while in country, please notify your credit card company and bank before departure to allow card usage in Indonesia. Project Costs Project costs are $4,879 which includes all materials needed for the project as well as a $2,000 direct donation to the ministry center to support ongoing missions. This is a shared cost by all team members. The timeline for payment of both Project Costs and Individual Costs will be provided once specific travel dates are determined. Project Costs must be paid 4 weeks prior to departure and Individual Costs must be paid 2 weeks prior to departure. In some cases, if LHM needs to make hotel or transport reservations, we may ask for partial payments to be made on a different timeline.
Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Vaccine recommendations are based on the best available risk information. Please note that the level of risk for vaccine preventable diseases can change at any time. Vaccination or Disease Routine Hepatitis A or immune globulin (IG) Hepatitis B Typhoid Japanese encephalitis Rabies Recommendations or Requirements for Vaccine Preventable Diseases Recommended if you are not up to date with routine shots, such as measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT) vaccine, poliovirus vaccine, etc. Recommended for all unvaccinated people traveling to or working in countries with an intermediate or high level of hepatitis A virus infection (see map) where exposure might occur through food or water. Cases of travel related hepatitis A can also occur in travelers to developing countries with "standard" tourist itineraries, accommodations, and food consumption behaviors. Recommended for all unvaccinated persons traveling to or working in countries with intermediate to high levels of endemic HBV transmission (see map), especially those who might be exposed to blood or body fluids, have sexual contact with the local population, or be exposed through medical treatment (e.g., for an accident). Recommended for all unvaccinated people traveling to or working in Southeast Asia, especially if staying with friends or relatives or visiting smaller cities, villages, or rural areas where exposure might occur through food or water. Recommended if you plan to visit rural farming areas and under special circumstances, such as a known outbreak of Japanese encephalitis, see country specific information. Recommended for travelers spending a lot of time outdoors, especially in rural areas, involved in activities such as bicycling, camping, or hiking. Also, recommended for travelers with significant occupational risks (such as veterinarians), for long term travelers and expatriates living in areas with a significant risk of exposure, and for travelers involved in any activities that might bring them into direct contact with bats, carnivores, and other mammals. Children are considered at higher risk because they tend to play with animals, may receive more severe bites, or may not report bites.
Malaria Areas of Indonesia with Malaria: Rural areas of Kalimantan (Borneo), Nusa Tenggara Barat (includes the island of Lombok), Sulawesi, and Sumatra. All areas of eastern Indonesia (provinces of Irian Jaya Barat, Maluku, Maluku Utara, Nusa Tenggara Timur, and Papua Indonesia). None in Jakarta or resort areas of Bali and Java. Low transmission in rural areas of Java. If you will be visiting an area of Indonesia with malaria, you will need to discuss with your doctor the best ways for you to avoid getting sick with malaria. Ways to prevent malaria include the following: Taking a prescription antimalarial drug Using insect repellent and wearing long pants and sleeves to prevent mosquito bites Sleeping in air conditioned or well screened rooms or using bednets All of the following antimalarial drugs are equal options for preventing malaria in Indonesia: Atovaquoneproguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine. For detailed information about each of these drugs, For information that can help you, please have your doctor decide which of these drugs would be best for you. Note: Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Indonesia and should not be taken to prevent malaria in this region. This is based on current information from CDC for Indonesia. Always consult with your doctor regarding vaccinations, as Lutheran Hour Ministries cannot be held liable for any recommendations made. Please visit for the most current information on travel immunizations. Training Manuals and Travel Forms Team training manuals are provided to each team member and contain required travel forms for each team member to fill out and return to LHM. Please note; some forms will need to be notarized Mail forms to: Lutheran Hour Ministries Attn. Chris Myers 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive St. Louis, MO Scan and send forms to: christine.myers@lhm.org All forms must be returned to LHM 2 months prior to departure.

LHM Ministry Center Indonesia Lutheran Hour Ministries Indonesia, known locally as Anchor of Life, will use radio broadcasting along with print resources and trained volunteers to reach out in Indonesian communities. LHM Indonesia will work in close cooperation with Lutheran churches in Indonesia to reach out to Indonesians, and especially to Muslims in the communities near Lutheran congregations and their members. Anchor of Life s radio broadcasts will offer spiritual advice and opportunities to participate in LHM s Bible Correspondence Courses (BCC), which provide a foundational understanding of the grace and love of God in Jesus Christ. Anchor of Life will also use personal outreach through volunteers to demonstrate Christian love, compassion, and forgiveness, and thereby build meaningful relationships with their non Christian neighbors. LHM s Equipping the Saints (ETS) evangelism training workshops will be used to prepare and empower volunteers to share the Gospel effectively.
