Athletic Facility Design Team
Meeting/Work Session Highlights #1: We introduced and explained the focus of the team. We were presented with the progress of the steering committee to date, and presented with the three options for facility design. The meeting ended with the work of discovering what the members of the committee would like our athletes to be, and what facilities we would like our athletes to have. #2: The committee toured the interior athletic facilities of the high school, including the weightroom, locker rooms, training room, gymnasiums, natatorium, the Commons area, and the restrooms and concession area. The committee discussed what facilities appeared to work well, which facilities do not appear to work well for the needs of the athletes, and what improvements would the committee like to see in the facilities of MHS
#3: The Committee created list of objectives and improvements to the athletic facilities from the previous meeting and gave each member five votes for items the members viewed as a priority and five votes for items that were not a priority. #4: The final meeting reviewed the priority rankings of the previous meeting and summarized the committee s key findings and prioritized the committee s objectives
Key Findings Reconfiguration of Existing Space Team Space The facility contains ample space but requires updates and reconfiguration for better utilization, flow, visibility, daylight, and building security The facility needs dedicated, flexible, securable team space (locker rooms, storage areas, meeting room, restrooms/showers) to serve ALL of our athletic teams during practice and competition events on campus
Key Findings Athletic Training Area Large Volume Competition Venues Contemporary athletic facilities feature enlarged, modern, and reconfigured athletics training & rehabilitation space to better serve the health and rehabilitation of student athletes and the needs of athletic training staff The larger competition and practice spaces (Gymnasiums, Pool, Kusel Stadium) are in need of upgrades to improve safety, security, and functionality during MHS events
Objectives Objective #1: Expand and Improve Locker Room and Team Space Areas Improve functionality, quality, and quantity of team spaces Dedicated team multi-purpose space for all teams Additional storage areas Access for indoor/outdoor competitions Rationale: Provide sufficient room for all in-season teams (home and visiting) Provide space for Team Learning and Development Provide safe/secure areas for personal belongings
Objectives Objective #2: Expand and Improve Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Facility Larger, visible, controlled space Expanded Fitness, Weight Training, and Conditioning Spaces Expanded areas for assessment, prevention, and rehabilitation Hydro treatment areas Adequate space for Athletic Training staff Rationale: Improve the health and well-being of student athletes Improved injury prevention
Objectives Objective #3: Expanded and Improve Pool Facilities Improve pool facilities entry & access Additional lanes and diving areas Additional seating gallery separate from pool deck Rationale: Increase safety for athletes and spectators Enhanced ability to host meets and competitions Increase revenue generating opportunities
Objectives Objective #4: Expanded On-Campus Practice / Competition Facilities Improve Competition Gym Entry & Access Improve functionality of Auxiliary Gym for small capacity events Additional on-campus synthetic turf practice fields Expand central/concession area Rationale: Provide easier access and a more comfortable environment for spectators Increase attendance at athletic events
