Within both Wales and Cardiff, the percentage of low birth weight babies is decreasing but at a very slow pace. Trends in smoking rates are improving slightly in Wales and Cardiff. Significant variation exits across Cardiff e.g. 14% in Cardiff North to 33% in Cardiff South West. Alcohol Consumption Percentage of adults in Cardiff reporting drinking above guidelines on a day in past week. Overweight and Obesity Levels Percentage of adults reporting to be overweight or obese. Fruit and Vegetable Consumption Adults who reported eating 5 or more portions of fruit and vegetables. 46% 43% 56% 55% 40% 34% Trend has remained consistent for Wales and Cardiff. In , 43% reported drinking above guidelines, slightly higher than the Wales average of 41%. Overweight and obesity have remained relatively constant in for both Wales at 58% and Cardiff. (Note that results based on self-reported data). Higher percentages of people living in least deprived areas of Cardiff report eating recommended levels. Physical Activity Participation rates in physical activity on 5 or more days in the past week. 25% 26% In Cardiff just over a quarter of adults reported being physically active compared to the Wales figure of 29%. Variation across Cardiff ranges from 20% in USOA Cardiff North & South East and 29% in Cardiff South West.

Per capita CO 2 emissions have generally followed a downward trend in Cardiff, Wales and the UK. High proportion of journeys are made by car with resultant issues of congestion on strategic road network, increased journey times and reduced journey time reliability. Welsh Government statutory target for 14/15 of 52% exceeded. Cardiff and Welsh trends are generally consistent. (Recording of crime has changed since 2013/14 with the implementation of recording at source by South Wales Police.) The increase in this category correlates with the change in recording crimes at source as noted above. It should be noted that data collected for weekly violence related attendance at University Hospital Wales shows a continual decrease since Significant progress has been made in reduction of dwelling house burglaries. In 2013/14, Cardiff had the second lowest number of crimes in this category when compared to the Core Cities group. Anti-social behaviour incidents are categorised as; Environmental, Nuisance & Personal. Employment rate is only 5 th highest rate among major cities, (59.7% in Liverpool to 73.7% in Edinburgh). (Wales 69.7%, UK 73.1%). When converted to new enterprises per 10,000 resident population, Cardiff s rate is 4 th lowest of major cities and compares poorly with UK but substantially above Wales. Weekly earnings for full-time workers consistently above Welsh average but below UK figure with the exception of Compares poorly with figures for both Wales (74.8%) and UK (77.5%) and is only 5 th of major cities. Claimant count rate fall is below declines in both Wales and the UK. Cardiff s claimant count is only joint 7 th lowest of major cities, (1.2% in Edinburgh to 3.7% in Birmingham).
