2 PROJECT AIM The overarching aim of the project is to enable vulnerable care leavers or young people who offend to gain the skills they need to live independent and positive lives

3 PROJECT OBJECTIVES To support care leavers and young people who offend to gain the qualifications and skills necessary for them to increase their chances of gaining employment To support care leavers and young people who offend to find and sustain paid employment placements for a total of 25 hours per week over 26 weeks To offer informal mentoring support to care leavers and young people who offend to enable them to gain independence and sustain lifestyle changes

4 PROJECT OBJECTIVES To support employers to be able to offer care leavers and young people who offend high quality temporary work placements that will meet the needs of participants and increase their employability To strengthen partnership working within the voluntary and public sectors in developing a delivery model To identify best practice in meeting the employability needs of care leavers and young people who offend, including the suitability of the model adopted by the project

5 Outcomes Vulnerable young people will be supported to access tailored education and training followed by 26 week paid work placements, increasing their long term employability. Vulnerable young care leavers, or young people who have offended, will be supported to meet their holistic needs, supporting their long term employability.

6 Outcomes Participants will be able to access a full spectrum of joined up employment related services which fully meet their needs, wherever they live in Wales, supporting their long term employability Vulnerable young people will be better catered for by local and national services, which will be designed to better meet their particular needs, and national policies which recognise both their vulnerability and potential.

7 Eligibility A looked after young person aged or a young person aged who is leaving care Young people who have offended who are aged 16-18, those who are in contact with, or known to the local Youth Offending Team. They may include former offenders and those who are currently in young offenders institutions

8 Over 2 years: 440 participants will be matched with a volunteer mentor who will support them through the duration of the project 440 participants will develop a Personal Plan which will underpin their progress through the project 398 participants will achieve an Agored Accredited Award and Essential Skills Wales qualification 396 participants will have commenced a 26 week paid work placement 317 will have completed a 26 week paid work placement

10 Referral Agency Referral and Risk Assessment to Sova Eligibility checked by Sova, Mentor identified and allocated to participant Initial Assessment undertaken and Personal Development Plan drawn up Work Ready with ESW Support Requirements Work Ready Extra Support Needed Referral, Risk Assessment and Personal Development Plan to CBSA or CYT for 6 month paid employment placement. Referral to be made for ESW support with Llamau,CBSA, CYT or GISDA, Referral, Risk Assessment to CBSA or CYT for 6 month paid employment placement Referral to Llamau, Gisda or signpost to other agency for support with Literacy, Numeracy and ICT also employability skills including work tasters and volunteering opportunities. Post Project Support provided by Sova Mentor
