1 Workshop: Daring Greatly & Healthy Relationships Daring Greatly: This powerful workshop will contain activities that help participants explore empathy and self-compassion. Members will better understand the relationship between empathy and trust, identify and explore 5 attributes of empathy (based on Kristen Neff and Theresa Wiseman s research), differentiate empathy from sympathy, differentiate the roles that experience play in practicing empathy and complete self assessments. Healthy Relationships: Students will be participating in an interactive workshop outlining healthy relationships, defining boundaries and consent as well as how to be an UPstander. Students will also identify how these topics apply not just to their real lives, but also to their digital world. Presenter: Ashley Le Grange, LMHC, NCC Executive Director & Founder of SUF Ashley Le Grange is a State (Florida) Certified School and Guidance Counselor for grades K-12 as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She received her Master s Degree in Counseling from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado and her work in the field of mental health is extensive with a strong concentration in teen prevention, alcohol and substance abuse as well as eating disorders. Workshop: The Disability Movement: From institution to community to acceptance During this brief overview we will explore how de-institutionalization led to an increase in home and community based supports which allowed people with developmental disabilities to access our community. Yet even as we have grown more accessible have we really become more inclusive? During this presentation we will use the disability movement as a model for creating a community which is more accepting of all individuals, regardless of difference. Presenter: Holly Stewart, LCSW Chief Operating Officer of the Arc Holly J. Stewart has dedicated her life to serving the community in Palm Beach County. For over 20 years she has promoted social emotional wellness for families and children, been an advocate for individuals with disabilities and has strived to create inclusive programs which value diversity. Holly joined the Arc of Palm Beach County in 2013 as Director of Residential programs and was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer in She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who received her Master s degree from Florida Atlantic University in She shares her home with her husband, two daughters, age 17 and 21, and their four-legged fur babies. Inclusion Experience Participants experience what it s like to have a disability through interactive hands-on activities. Characteristics and Traits 101 Participants will test their knowledge of various developmental disabilities with an interactive game Presenter: Christin Martin Christin Martin has worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for over eighteen years, sixteen of which have been with The Arc of Palm Beach County as the Community Inclusion Specialist. Christin offers inclusion and disability awareness trainings to the community to promote programming based in acceptance of diverse populations. Christin also works hands-on with programs to teach person specific inclusion techniques.
2 Co-Presenter: Lena Kimbal, LCSW, Director of Family Services at the Arc Lena Andersson Kimball is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Lena is currently the Director of Family Services at the Arc of Palm Beach over seeing the Respite and Family Services programs. Lena earned her Bachelor s Degree in Child Development from Florida State University and a Masters in Social Work from the University of South Florida. Lena is a qualified Supervisor for Registered Social Work Interns seeking licensure in the state of Florida. Lena continued her education with over 150 hours in the specialized area of play therapy, and became certified as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) in Lena has completed intensive training in Child-Centered Play Therapy with Dr. Gary Landreth, PhD, practiced Filial Play Therapy under Dr. Rise Van Fleet, PhD, and completed CARE Developmental Play Therapy Training with Dr. Janet Courtney, PhD. Lena is also a proud member of The Association for Play Therapy. Lena has over 15 years of experience working with a variety of children and families in many diverse community settings. She has held positions with several agencies in the state of Florida. Lena is driven to help children and families turn struggles into success, and finds satisfaction in seeing them grow up and their families grow closer. Co-Presenter: Kristie Giles, Director of Adult Career and Education Services at the Arc Kristie Giles received her Bachelor Degree in Psychology from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fl. Shortly after graduation Kristie relocated to Palm Beach and began her career at The Arc of Palm Beach County serving young children in The Arc s Potentials School. It was through this experience Kristie developed her passion for working with child with developmental disabilities. Quickly Kristie realized she wanted not only work directly with children she wanted to touch the lives of children, adults and families. Kristie was promoted and began working in a capacity that allowed her to gain experience in a variety of settings including providing referrals, conducting family intakes and learning about what it take to help adults with developmental disabilities gain employment. Kristie quickly excelled in this position and shortly after was named the Director of Adult Career and Education Services. Kristie is a certified SibShop instructor and Next Chapter Book Club facilitator. Kristie is certified in Supported Employment through Agency for Persons with Disability and Vocational Rehabilitation and has attended trainings and been certified in Community Employment Services. Kristie has attended the rally on the State Capital advocating for the rights of all persons with disabilities. Kristie has extensive knowledge and experience working and passion right now is helping adults gain post-secondary education and competitive employment. Co-Presenter: Julie Lobdell, Director of Recreation at the Arc Julie Lobdell has worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for over twenty four years, of which have been with The Arc of Palm Beach County as the Director of Recreation. Julie offers a variety of fun interactive and community inclusion recreation program services to children, teens and adults annually. She also partners with the community recreation programs through out Palm Beach County in securing Arc team members who work directly with the youth who are registered in their individual community programs. Julie has formed over two decades of long lasting relationship with community partners and families.
3 Workshop: Building a Personal Practice of Mindfulness School, parents, friends, extracurricular activities, social media Your mind is constantly sifting through information! Mindfulness is a critical tool in today s neverending busy world. It s easy to discuss, but here, we are going to discuss what it actually is and develop personal, individual practices to try! Workshop: Healthy Highs (Weeding Out the Myths) The Healthy Highs workshop will educate young people and their families about the risks and realities of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. The growing years are a critical time for becoming an active participant in the world, acquiring social skills, establishing values, developing interests and passions, and learning to cope with the depth and breadth of one s emotions. Young people who depend on addictive and/or harmful substances to relieve boredom, have fun, reduce anxiety or deal with feelings may never develop these capabilities on their own. Presenter: Kari Yuen, Kari Yuen, M.A. in School Counseling and a speciality in Clinical Mental Health, joined FCD Prevention Works in 2009, and is currently a Senior Prevention Specialist and Regional Officer. Kari is the current Prevention Specialist through the Family Resource Center in Colorado cultivating systems of support for youths and communities to keep healthy kids healthy. Kari has experience in wilderness therapy programs for teens and young adults and worked at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation with adolescents with co-occuring disorders. She is deeply involved in a variety of community activities, including Bridging the Gap, which helps individuals transition from treatment facilities into home environments and incarcerated women with with the disease of addiction. Workshop: Stress, Anxiety, Perfectionism and Time Management Stress and anxiety can be overwhelming at times, but there are great ways of managing them or turning them to good use! This workshop will help you understand stress and anxiety and teach you a few physical ways to regain control and relax your mind and body. Additionally, anxiety can often present as overwhelming for those who set their standards and self-expectations high. This form of perfectionism can often be unobtainable and frustrating. This workshop will help you examine your goals and potential tendency to strive for the unobtainable perfection, as well as the stress that accompanies this mission. Strategies to help alleviate this stress and perfectionism include relaxation, mindfulness, and executive functioning skills like time management and organization. Come join a crash course in stress management and set yourself up for success and happiness! Presenter: Stephanie Larsen, Psy. D Dr. Stephanie Larsen is a Florida Licensed Psychologist at Palm Beach Behavioral Health and Wellness. She has prided herself on being able to provide effective services to children, adolescents, and adults in the community over the last six years. Dr. Larsen is currently the director of the anxiety treatment clinic within PBBHW and secondarily specializes in work with adolescents, treating self-injury, and providing psycho-educational testing.
4 Workshop: Forget Food Frenzy:Making Mindful Eating Manageable When we were babies, eating was simple. However, as we get older, our environment, social media and our culture as a whole make it so complex and confusing! By learning the concept of Mindful Eating, you will be able to more confidently interpret what your body needs, eat what you truly want, feel more balanced and absolutely enjoy food more! Presenter: Christie Caggiani, RDN, LDN, CEDRD, Co-Founder of Therapeutic Oasis Christie Caggiani is a Registered, Licensed Dietitian / Nutrition Therapist, Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian and co-founder of Therapeutic Oasis of the Palm Beaches. Trained as a dietitian, Christie has worked in various settings from hospital to long-term care, however her passion became reality when she launched her first private practice, Nourishing Success, in 1995, then joined forces with an amazing team to Co-Found Therapeutic Oasis in Through the years, she s guided individuals in their eating disorder recovery, taught people to eat without judgment as they become more healthful, and assisted clients in learning to listen to their internal signals of hunger and satiety. She utilizes a non-diet / intuitive eating philosophy as she counsels individuals and families, and she believes passionately that health can come in all body sizes. Additionally, Ms. Caggiani presents to groups of children, teens and adults throughout the community, including Foundation events. She is a huge advocate for eating disorder prevention, early detection and intervention, and is inspired daily by her amazing clients that move on to lead full, happy and complete lives! Workshop: Body Talk: Building Awareness Around the Impact of Internal and External Messages. This presentation will provide some basic facts on what is meant by body image, negative body image, and positive body image, as well as the various factors that influence it in one direction or the other. We wiill use experiential mindfulness to attune to the body and note the messages, from mind and body, worksheets to further identify messages from external sources, and group sharing to build support. Participants will also identify ways to counter the external messages and practices to change internal self talk and beliefs. Presenter: Patricia Shutt, Psy.D., CEDS, Co-Founder of Therapeutic Oasis Patricia Thomas Shutt is the co-owner of the Therapeutic Oasis and Founder and Owner of the Sacred Treehouse. She was born and raised in Southeast Florida and attended the University of Florida where she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and attended Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale earning both a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 1994 and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in Dr. Shutt has over 20 years of experience working with individuals and groups to improve mental and emotional functioning. Her broad background in treatment skills evolved from her diverse experiences working in private practice, an inpatient treatment center, and in community mental health centers. She is currently a Florida Licensed Clinical Psychologist and works with adult individuals, couples and families with a wide range of issues. She is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, the current President of iaedp ( the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals), is DBT intensively trained, and an MBSR qualified teacher through UCSD. Workshop: Workshop: Body Talk: Building Awareness Around the Impact of Internal and External Messages. Co-Presenter: Lewis Jones, Psy.D Dr. Lewis Jones is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with both Masters and Doctorate degrees from Nova Southeastern University. He has worked in the country s top healthcare companies, as well as in university counseling centers, community mental health, inpatient psychiatric units and outpatient clinics. His primary specialties include Anxiety disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Eating Disorders. Dr. Jones has also presented both nationally and locally on these topics. Dr. Jones work centers primarily on Cognitive Behavior Therapy, due in great part to its adherence to scientifically-based treatment guidelines, but he often incorporates other approaches to fit each client s specific needs. As such, he has specialized training in varying exposure techniques and mindfulness skills that make him uniquely qualified as a psychologist. Dr. Jones emphasizes skill-building and homework as part of each therapeutic treatment plan, making his work more concrete than traditional talk-therapy. Dr. Jones is also a YogaFit certified yoga teacher and enjoys bringing mindful, body-focused concepts into the therapy room. In fact, his doctoral thesis focused on mindful-movement practices and their impact on mental health. He believes that mental health is not restricted just to the mind, but expands to the person as a whole.
5 Workshop: Leadership 2018 Presenter: Christopher Littlefield Chris works with individuals and teams from around the globe and across industries to develop the critical skills and self-awareness needed to produce extraordinary results. With over 10 years of experience designing and leading programs that create understanding and trust between youth and adults from areas that have seen protracted international conflicts such as the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Northern Ireland, Chris has developed a keen depth of knowledge and insight into the dynamics of human relationships. He has translated this knowledge into the development of AcknowledgmentWorks highly interactive consulting, training, and coaching services. Based jointly in Santiago, Chile and the United States, Chris is Harvard University trained in negotiation, certified in mediation, and has a BA in Global Interactions from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Kim is a certified 200 hour E-RYT who shares her yoga practice on land and water. When not in the studio, organizing activities at Blueline, you can find her instructing yoga on a paddleboard.
