With so many exciting NFI events and service opportunities upcoming, we wanted to make sure to highlight those now: 1 2 Ways and Means crafting 11/10 Big Book Weekend Jekyll Island, December 7You can still register for9 the winter convention! See After the Intergroup meeting on November 10, the normally scheduled speaker meeting will be replaced by a special crafting session for the Ways and Means Committee. These crafts will be sold at the December Big Book. We'd love to see you there. If you need ride to the meeting, you can contact our NFI chair who can help you connect with reps from your area. 3 NFI Service Opportunities Service to NFI is a great way to improve your own recovery and help carry the message to those who are still suffering. The document "Guidelines for Small Meetings: Help and Hope" offers inspiring and practical suggestions for making every meeting a reliable place to hear about the experience, strength, and hope of abstinence and recovery in OA. If your meeting is in a small town or if your group could use more influence from members with strong recovery, these guidelines can be especially helpful. Download the PDF for workable ideas and a giant list of resources available at oa.org. Spotlight on: Lifeline Magazine Lifeline is OA s magazine. It is like a portable meeting, filled with new perspectives on issues you deal with daily. Featuring articles, experiences, opinions, letters, information and stories by OA members, it is an invaluable tool that will support you in working your program and maintaining your recovery. This colorful, illustrated magazine also includes answers to questions, and region and world service news. A one-year print subscription to Lifeline is just US$23 for USA subscribers (US$29 in Canada and US$38 worldwide) and an online subscription is just US$23 worldwide, so give yourself, a sponsee, or even a health care facility the gift of experience, strength, and hope found in our Twelve Step program. In today s information age, Lifeline online (oalifeline.org) brings the magazine into some subscribers homes by computer and mobile devices. 3 ~Ways and Means Committee~ NFI has created an ad hoc Ways and Means (W&M) Committee as an attempt to raise money. We have several items for sale; many of them are a great gift for your sponsor or sponsees, or may be used to celebrate a recovery anniversary. Purchase a large (3.75 ) or small button (2.5 ), add a photo of yourself from before you started the OA program (assuming you can find one many of us hated to be photographed) and wear the buttons at meetings to show that RECOVERY (and weight loss) has occurred. Send your money with them and ask them to pick up the items you would like. They will bring them to you at your next bracelets, and Serenity meeting. To save money, we cannot ship items to individuals, but we Prayer Pens. will arrange for a way to get them to you! CALLING ALL CRAFTERS (AND NON CRAFTERS) W&M needs you to start saving the following empty, clean items: 1) Tall plastic containers from Crystal Light drink mix, and 2) Glass jars with screw-on metal lids (~15 oz) from tomato sauces. These will be used to make Journey Jars -- a writing tool introduced at the Gainesville Fun Day last January. The jars contain slips of colored paper with OA questions for writing and contemplation. The questions could also be used as topics for discussion at meetings. We plan to sell these jars at the World Service Recovery which will be held in Orlando, August We will gather next year (2019) to decorate the jars and prepare the questions as a group. More information will be forthcoming. In the meantime, start saving and washing the containers and jars. Please remove the labels. Send your containers with your Intergroup Representative to the monthly meeting until we ask you to stop collecting them! I will be there to receive and store them. Thanks! Barb C. 5 SOAR 8 Delegate's Report from the Little Rock The business assembly started on Friday, Oct 12 with the readings and recognition of New Intergroups, new Reps (green dots) and the Board Members. There were 39 voters including 5 virtual voters. The Forum was about the "World Service Board of Trustees Restructuring". Currently we have a total of 17 Trustees that serve the World Service Board. This is very costly and they have a plan that will gradually phase out 5 of the trustees to a total of 12. We were given a presentation with slides and then a form to comment on each slide. Each Region will have the same presentation and opportunity to respond. The results will be compiled and presented to the next WS Business Conference next year. The purpose for this restructuring is the cost; this will eliminate a lot of expenses from the budget and we should still be able to function well. On Saturday, we reconvened and the Board members gave their reports and then we broke up into our committees. I am still on the Ways and Means Committee. We just about sold out of our new long sleeve T-shirts and will be ordering more for the next assembly. We also discussed selling T-shirts at the WS in Orlando, once we have the theme for it. And again, we are working on a way to get ads out to the intergroups to put in their newsletters 2 months before the assembly so everyone has a chance to get items that we sell. We only sold 8 of our bracelets, but the total sales from everything was $ The new Budget for was approved with only one change, to add more money to PIPO to help spread the message. There was an election. Pam G is our new Vice Chair and Janet T is our Secretary. Andi S was elected as our new possible Region 8 Trustee. We will submit her application, but the whole WS Business Conference will have to vote for her to actually become the Region 8 Trustee. Barb got selected to be the Tech Web Chair. Since we are the only Region that is doing the virtual voting, this is a very important position since it really is on the cutting edge of new technology. Linda, our current Trustee, gave her report about how important it is that we buy our literature from the World Service Bookstore. Most of our money comes from book and pamphlet sales. Lifeline Magazine is another form of literature that is available online or mail hard copy. It also comes in several languages. By subscribing to the Lifeline, it is also helping greatly with our budget. The Lifeline is literature and so is also a tool. It can also be used in 12 Step work and PIPO. Next Region Assembly in April 2019 will be in Ft. Lauderdale and in October 2019 it will be in Memphis.
