1 Newsletter August 2018 MOTPP Newsletter Welcome to the New Program Year! As of August 1, 2018 we are entering the new MOTPP program year. The evaluation team will be wrapping up the evaluation for the program year and you will notice changes/updates to the MOTPP website, including: Updated training video for all programs Updated program resources Updated surveys for all program Updated instructions for all programs TOP programs will see changes to their attendance logs to reflect the new curriculum Check it out on the website: motpp.missouri.edu If you have any questions, please us at MOTPP Website Feedback In addition to new program materials and instructional aids, you'll notice some improvements to the site like student rosters automatically sorting alphabetically and the ability to drop youth from your club, among other improvements. 2 Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Conference 2018 From May 30 -June 1 MOTPP Health Coordinators with the MO Dept. of Health and Senior Services and evaluators at the University of Missouri attend the 2018 Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Conference in Washington, D.C. This year's theme was "Strengthening Communities: Promoting Resiliency in Youth and Families." While at the conference, the MOTPP team was able to present some of the great work being done in Missouri and gain insight from others implementing similar programs across the country. 4 While at the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention conference, a great talk was given on youth impacted by trauma. This book was highly recommend as a resource for facilitators working with youth that have experienced trauma. You can check it out here: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog: And Other Stories from a Child Psychiatrist's Notebook--What Traumatized Children Can Teach Us About Loss, Love, and Healing Missouri Family Health Council Resource The Missouri Family Health Council, Inc., is a private nonprofit organization based in Jefferson City and champions access for every individual to culturally sensitive, quality, sexual and reproductive health education and services. It does this by developing and managing family planning and related preventive reproductive health programs. MFHC allocates Title X funding to 68 clinic sites via 18 subrecipients throughout the state. Missouri's diverse Title X network consists of health departments, federally qualified health centers, community action agencies, hospitals, nonprofits, and affiliates of Planned Parenthood. Title X funds are granted to MFHC through the Office of Population Affairs. Please visit to learn more!

5 TOP CSL Ideas Special CSL Feature: Sheldon TOP Club Youth in the Sheldon R-VIII TOP club chose to do a walking trail for their CSL project during their FIRST year of MOTPP programming. Sheldon is a rural, agricultural city with a population of about 300. Recently city residents have complained about the condition of sidewalks and safety of being able to walk around town, so the students thought a walking trail would be a great project to give back to the school and community. It would give the students at the school a place to walk at recess if the playground area was wet and/or muddy, and it also would give the community a safe place to walk. In addition to all that, the students are adding a sign to promote a healthy lifestyle through walking for exercise, 7 laps = 1 mile. Way to go Sheldon TOP! A great CSL idea! 8 Fresh Idea: Back to School Events and Consent Forms Fresh Ideas Feature: Henry County We have had a few questions regarding ways to get parent/guardian consent forms signed and returned to facilitators. Gary French, Coordinator for Henry County MOTPP program, has had success with hosting a booth at Back-to-School events. He tells parents about the Teen Pregnancy Prevention programs, answers their questions, AND has the parents sign the consent forms while at the event. This is a great way to share information on your programs and get signed consent forms for your youth. Thank you for sharing the fresh idea!
