Bridges Out of Poverty is a framework for understanding poverty. Among topics covered were mental models of class, causes of poverty, languages, hidden rules, and resources. Bridges Out of Poverty is open to everyone and will also be offered again September 20 & November 9, 2017 (for more information visit: In addition to attending the training, PTPM staff gave a tour of our agency. The goal of the tour was to provide participants with a new perspective of how we serve clients and what our clients may experience when coming to the PTPM office. During the tour, staff highlighted our check-in procedure, our food pantry menu, our boutique, the volunteer roles performed, the Christmas Toy Project workspace, food storage space, and our donation areas. After the tour, participants engaged in a discussion about their thoughts and feelings surrounding their experience. The tour and discussion helped participants put a face and experience on what they learned during the training. PTPM looks forward to continuing work with United Way and the Bridges Out of Poverty trainings. Among the materials provided at the training was a demographic projection worksheet (2015) that highlights Wayne County statistics in comparison to the overall statistics in Ohio. In Wayne County, between the years of 2010 and 2014, 78% of working-age adults (age 25-64) were employed or seeking employment, while 22% of the population was not in the work force for various reasons. In the past decade, the median household income in Wayne County has declined by 8.9%. The decrease in household income has contributed to the fact that 14,888 people, which accounts for 13.4% of people in Wayne County, lived below the poverty level. These statistics showcase why the work that the agencies in Wayne County are doing is so important. PTPM encourages you to attend a Bridges Out of Poverty training so you can see how you can impact the fight against poverty. PTPM challenges you to find a way to make a difference in someone s life, no matter how big or how small, it s meaningful to the person who benefits from your generosity. **Statistics from The Center For Community Solutions

We are hanging the stars in our lobby among the artwork. We are thankful to all the men and women who have and who are protecting our freedoms. In total, Stamp Out Hunger donated 3319 pounds of food to PTPM. This represents approximately half of what was collected. The other half of the donations were sent to Salvation Army. Stamp Out Hunger is the largest single-day food collection in our community. It is an annual event, happening the second Saturday of every May. This year it celebrated its 24 th year. Stamp Out Hunger allows people to leave nonperishable food donations, in a bag at their mailbox, where a mail carrier can pick it up. All food donated during the drive stays local, helping to feed people from Wayne County. According to the Map the Meal Gap 2017 (from Feeding America), food insecurity (the lack of access to sufficient affordable, nutritious food) stands at about 12.5% in Wayne County. PTPM appreciates your generosity and the Postal Service s dedication to feeding the community.
