1 Alpha Gamma Chapter President s Message VIRGINIA, IOTA STATE ORGANIZATION SEPTEMBER Dear DKG members, Welcome back! Fall is fast approaching, and a new school year is well underway. I hope everyone had the opportunity to relax with family and friends over the summer months. Last April, I had the opportunity to attend the IOTA State convention in Richmond. The highlight of the convention was hearing Adriana Trigiani, author of the Big Stone Gap trilogy, Lucia Lucia, Very Valentine, and many other novels, speak at Friday night s opening session. She was so interesting and very funny. One of her former high school teachers is a DKG member. They had been trying for years to have her at a state convention: lucky for me this was the year that she could work us into her busy schedule. She spoke of how much she appreciated her teachers and that we do make a positive lasting impression on the students we teach. I feel so fortunate to have heard her speak. Once again, I hope to encourage all of you to attend our meetings and participate in our service projects, Books for Babies and The Boys and Girls Club. It is an honor to be your President, and I want to share with you a message I received at the State convention: Someone noticed your work Someone noticed your standards Someone believed in your potential

Attendees will order from the menu and pay individually. Books for Babies continues to be a source of joy and appreciation for new families at SOVAH (formerly DRMC). Many thanks to all of our supporters. Feel free to bring books or cash to our meetings! And by the way...teresa Whitmire did not get a summer vacation from book preparation and delivery! 4 ( Everyone has seen the news coverage of the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on the citizens of Texas. Virginia IOTA State President Vickie S. Newburn has sent a letter outlining an opportunity for us to help our sister members of Delta Kappa Gamma. Click the hyper link for her letter and a form to use for tax deductible donations. 5 ( campaign_designform?id=7) The Board has voted to continue out two major projects from last year, Books for Babies and supporting the Boys and Girls Club. Donations of books and/or money are always welcome for Books for Babies. The Boys and Girls Club is requesting personal items gather personal hygiene products such as deodorant, soap, lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrush, chap stick, tissues, and feminine products. We will collect until Christmas; some items will be distributed at Christmas; others will be kept for usage onsite. (Editor s Note: Watch your weekly drug store flyers and coupons in the local paper; sometimes members of their rewards program can get items free with coupons or very inexpensively!)
