4 The Mind Matters Mental Health Panel In collaboration with the Drexel University Black Graduate Student Union In May, NAHSE-DVC collaborated with Drexel University's Black Graduate Student Union to host a panel that addressed the misconceptions, stigmas, and facts around mental and behavioral health. Populations & Pipelines Co-Sponsored by Main Line Health s Lankenau Medical Center In October, NAHSE-DVC collaborated with Main Line Health's Lankenau Medical Center to learn about how they are effectively addressing healthcare disparities. Dr. Barry Mann, Chief Academic Officer and Chinwe Onyekere, MPH, Associate Administrator led the program. The Power to Heal In Collaboration with Temple University In October, the NAHSE-DVC co-sponsored The Power to Heal: the Legacy of Medicare and Medicaid, a symposium organized by Temple University s College of Public Health and Fox School of Business. This symposium highlighted the past, current and future impact of Medicare and Medicaid. Public Policy

5 Mid-Careerist Panel In collaboration with La Salle University In April, NAHSE-DVC held its first Mid-Careerist Panel Event on career transitioning and the value of professional associations. Panelists were Chinwe Onyekere, MPH, Associate Administrator, Lankenau Medical Center; Kenneth Munroe, MBA, MSOD, Director of Operations, Penn Medicine; Christopher A. Cullom, Assistant Executive Hospital Director, Penn Medicine; Jacquelynn Y. Orr, FACHE, Secretary, NAHSE-DVC, DrPH Candidate, Drexel University; and Richard Jacovini, Division President, HomeCare & Hospice, Main Line Health. Emerging Leaders Health Care Summit Co-Sponsored by Temple Health In November, NAHSE DVC held its annual Emerging Leaders Healthcare Summit event for students and early careerists to network and connect with seasoned leaders in the healthcare industry. The following are statements from students who were motivated by the experience: One on one time with these individuals and learning about their roads to success was a huge learning opportunity. It motivated me more to put myself out there and never give up on my goals! The Leadership Summit provided me with an invaluable opportunity to network and receive guidance from prominent leaders in the surrounding healthcare industry. The NAHSE DVC Leadership Summit provided me with an amazing opportunity to connect with current healthcare leaders in the greater Philadelphia area and other students and young professionals hoping to enter into the healthcare field. As a senior undergraduate student studying public health and healthcare management, the meaningful advice and connections I made at the event were invaluable! Career Development

8 DVC Collaboration with The Health Career Academy NAHSE DVC partnered with the Health Career Academy by adding a group of brilliant healthcare management professionals to build on the program's existing diversity of knowledge and expertise. The NAHSE DVC strives to increase these high students' exposure to and understanding of non-clinical careers in healthcare. Visit for more information. Dr. Barry Mann, Chief Academic Officer, Main Line Health System, Founder, Annenberg High School Science Symposium and Health Career Academy Belmont Charter School Career Day In March, NAHSE-DVC visited Belmont Charter School in West Philadelphia to share about their careers and roles in NAHSE. The experience was unmatched as discussions delved beyond the standard job description. The DVC volunteers were enriched by this experience! C o m m u n i t y D e v e l o p m e n t

9 The Annual Conference Ready, Set, Lead Transforming Healthcare October 2016 Las Vegas, NV NAHSE-DVC continues to work diligently to achieve the mission of the organization by effectively representing the chapter on a national scale. Four of the five NAHSE-DVC executive board members attended the conference and achieved the following: - Marilyn Adibu and Reyna Florentino participated in the Health Leadership Case Challenge, and Marilyn s team took first place! - Shonalie Roberts sat on the National Scholarship and Awards Committee and participated in the Career Fair, on behalf of Main Line Health. - Jacquelynn Y. Orr, FACHE received the Ellis Bonner Scholarship and served as a judge for the Student Case Competition. - DVC was recognized as 1 of 15 chapters (out of 28) to sponsor the National Conference.

10 Many gathered at Temple Health s Corporate Campus to celebrate an evening of scholarship and achievement. Keynote Speaker, Suzanne Beauvoir-Jackson, FACHE, CEO of HCA Affiliated John Randolph Medical Center, shared her journey of resilience and balance. Fred Carey, CEO of Sayre Health and founding member of the DVC, shared a historical perspective about the life and legacy of David L. Rayon. Three exceptional students were recognized and awarded scholarships.
