1 SPACE COAST FLORIDA CHAPTER, NAWIC Chapter Newsletter November December 2017 Volume 21, Issue 1 NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION CORE PURPOSE: TO ENHANCE THE SUCCESS OF WOMEN IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. CORE VALUES: BELIEF IN OURSELVES AS WOMEN PERSEVERANCE DARE TO MOVE INTO NEW HORIZONS PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Although Hurricane Irma kind of re-arranged our schedule for the beginning and end of our traditional NAWIC year, we are all here, we made it safe and sound, and things worked out. No power (hence no air-conditioning which is probably the worst of everything), no water, no phone, no internet, trees down, flooding, etc. was a reminder that we are not in charge of Mother Nature. The installation of the Officers and Directors took place on October 5 th at the Holiday Inn Express in Cocoa with Terri Hart performing the honors. Immediately following we jumped into the 21 st Annual Golf Classic. Thank you Lillian and Terri for heading up a great tournament!!!! See Lillian s report below. Coming up December 7 th, will be the Christmas Social at the Holiday Inn Express in Cocoa. Please join us and bring a friend or two! Our goal is for every member to bring at least one extra person, if not two. The more the merrier! We will be having the Gift Exchange, as well as collecting contributions for the NAWIC Holiday project to provide needed hygiene supplies to the Brevard Schools Foundation for homeless children. Brochures were given to our guest Sarah Rockefeller from Trojan Labor (Deleah Garcia) and Irene Henderson for a prospective member. 2. Thank you to Lillian Leatherman for providing stickers with our chapter name and website. Profession Development and Education (PD&E) - Irene Henderson / Christy Ruth 1. December No Speaker Christmas Party 2. PD &E topics of self-defense / gun safety were discussed. Anyone with ideas is urged to contact Christy or Irene. We need speakers for 2018!! REPORT OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES Cheer and Friendship Julie Hood 1. November Birthday Wishes to Joyce Jones (11/20) and Julie Hood (11/30). NEF Block Kids Terri Hart 1. Location at Hans Christian Anderson in Rockledge is confirmed for Saturday March 10, Names of sponsors and judges will be complied shortly and requests will be sent out in early January. Ways & Means Golf Classic Lillian Leatherman 1. This years Golf Tournament was very successful. Final numbers will be available next month. 2. We already have a tentative date for 2018 tournament (2 nd or 3 rd Friday of October 2018). UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. None NEW BUSINESS WIC Week - Julie Hood 1.
