Where have the last two years gone? I have never kept it a secret how I feel about BPW, but my opinion has only grown stronger as I moved forward. This is a club of ladies who genuinely care about those women in situations that are less than ideal. Through our various committees, everyone works so hard to raise funds for our various community partners and continue to lobby through our resolution process to push the government for an improved situation for women. This is an active club, a caring club and the envy of many of the clubs that I have had the pleasure of visiting. We do have every right to be proud! Our club s kindness extends not only to our community partners but also to its membership. I will never forget the kind words of encouragement before going into my recent surgery and the ongoing care and concern from so many of you that I received throughout my hospital stay and even now as I recover at home. It has meant more to me than you know. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. My special thanks go out to Heather who has handled my duties very well in my absence. Congratulations to Pat Dowling and her great euchre committee on yet another successful euchre night at Hansa Haus on March 25th with the proceeds going to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Peel. Let s not forget club elections. Please complete your nomination forms and get them to Snigdha Malik as soon as possible. Think about being part of the executive and be part of the decision making process. It is a very satisfying experience. Also please try to attend our Provincial Conference, this year being held at the Hilton Suites Markham Centre and SPA on June 3-5. Registration forms are available on the Ontario website and get in on the early bird price of $ if paid by April 25th. After this date the price goes up to $ Accommodations are excellent with a full suite for only $ It is at conference where you really get the full understanding of what BPW is all about. The club s sincere condolences go out to Linda Ford on the recent loss of her father and also to Pat Tiveron on her mother s passing. Remember, we all gain by DOING IT OUR WAY. Barb

2 Resolutions Heather Moogk As women, we face many challenges. For instance, the Pay Equity issue has been a concern for many years and has an effect not just during our working years, but also into our retirement years. Canada Pension Plan Benefits, any contributions to employer pension plans and even contribution limits into RRSPs use wages as part of the calculation. Lower pay results in lower retirement benefits. One of the benefits of being a member of BPW is having a voice to address these concerns. And the greatest benefits of Brampton BPW, is the friendships that are created within our club. Federal Elections are May 2, 2011 and May 17th is our Brampton BPW elections and general meeting. If you are interested in being part of the executive team, please nominate yourself for a position or if you would like to sit on a committee, I encourage you let us know! BPW in the News Angel Massey-Singh CTV News Channel: Doris Hall, BPW Canada The national president of the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Womens Clubs says nobody, male or female, will be enticed into buying a car because of the racy new ad run by an Ontario Chrysler dealership. 3 District Director s Report Barb Hore The St. Catherine s club will be hosting a plant sale on April 30th at the home of President Ann Hodson. It will be held from 8:00 am through 11:00 followed by a box lunch. Cost of admission and lunch is $ If you are interested in attending please contact me. The Niagara Falls club will be hosting a Women s Wellness Fair which will include 50 trade tables displaying items of interest to women mostly in the health and wellness area. The location is the Hilton Garden Inn at Niagara-On-the- Lake. The date of the event is May 28th and runs from 10:00 am through to 3:30 pm. If you are interested in attending, please contact me. Nothing to report at this time on the Halton club. Barb Hore District Director Golden Horseshoe/Halton/Peel Membership Linda Barker With our Season coming to an end this month, it is time to think about membership renewals and getting your friends and colleagues involved in BPW. Now is a good time to bring out guests to meet the members and see what our club is all about. Special thanks to our members who have brought guests to our meetings as quite a few have decided to join after meeting our group. Our membership is strong at 52 members currently. If you haven t completed your renewal yet, please do so you will have a vote at the May AGM.

Here is one of the messages available online to all through the BPW International website BPW International Snigdha Malik Dear BPW, The situation in Japan still remains very grave. No words can convey our deep thoughts of hope and prayers for all our BPW sisters in Japan. The nuclear radiation crisis from the Fukushima nuclear power plant is still going. BPW Japan President Toshimi Matsubara has requested financial aid for a project to support at least (2) clubs directly affected in Sendai and Yamagata. On our website please find the Japan crisis where you can make donations via credit card and see the updated news. Many thanks to BPW Korea who have already donated USD 7,500! We welcome letters of support to send to BPW Japan. Many BPW Members will be attending this year s Global Summit of Women in Istanbul,Turkey so we will be joining together there as the BPW delegation. BPW International is a partner and our members get a 5% discount on the registration. Please advise the president office if you are going so we can place you in the communication loop. BPW Ankara joined by sister clubs Istanbul, Izmir, Adana and others are hosting an all day Women s Empowerment Principles event the day before which we are most excited about. This major BPW International initiative is getting much recognition attention and engagement. It shows we have the Power to make a Difference. Show and tell your personal BPW Success Story! Members are invited to write a short story on what BPW has done for you in your life. This will be published and shared within the organization and at Congress and also includes more exciting opportunities. Write to the president s office for more details. Liz Benham President BPW International Golf Pat Dowling We are teeing off on Thursday June 9, 2011 at the Caledon Country Club for our 16th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. This is a fun filled day of lunch, 9 holes of golf, dinner, live auction and prizes. This is an event that you don't want to miss! Registration forms are now available. Register before May 1, 2011 and you will be entered into our draw to have your day PAID for. We are looking for hole sponsorship, prizes and live auction items. See you on the greens!!!

5 Euchre Pat Dowling We had another sold out Euchre event on Friday March 25, 2011 held at the Hansa Haus. We raised $2, for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Peel. It was an evening of great fun, food and card playing. Many thanks again to all of our members that donated time, prizes and food for the evening. Without your support we would not have been as successful! Mark your calendars for November, 2011 for the next Progressive Charity Euchre Event. More information to follow in September/11. Caring Companion Program Here is the shot from the BUDDY S N BOWS FOUNDATION presentation to the Brampton Civic Hospital's Caring Companion Program, which they are now legitimately able to fund raise for. Buddy s N Bows Foundation GREAT NEWS! This program will be developed and run by the Child Life Services Dept. within the pediatric wards. Buddy s N Bows will be able to fund raise using the William Osler Health System Foundation Trust account, which they are setting up for us, so that now we will be able to use their very high profiling image as well as developed our own branding under their umbrella. As well we will be able to give tax receipts now. It has taken almost four years to birth this baby, but now we can actually go after more high profile funding for this pilot program. We will be expanding it in the future as we identify the needs in other areas of the community. The Therapeutic Clown program is definitely not off the table, but we needed to have some form of a program that we could work with at the Brampton Civic Hospital. It is my hope that we can now developed a committee to work on setting up larger fund raising events, with the eye on a target of (wait for it) $1,000, That way the program could be self sustaining.
