1 WATERMARKS: September 2016 The Newsletter for Central Minnesota Watercolorists CALL TO VOTE: The last page is a ballot for a new MEMBERS CHOICE AWARD. Please, Please, Please tear it off and vote for your favorite painting in the Paramount Center for the Arts Main Lobby hanging between Aug. 1 and Sept 11. Bring it to the FREE Annual Dinner meeting yes the dinner is FREE, (guests $10). Sept. 12, 5:15, at Watab Town Hall, th St. SW, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379! It is our hope that since the Paramount Exhibit is our home location we can make this an annual event. The winning painter will receive a nice award : ). Some are untitled just say what it looks like. Presidents Message from Kerry Kupferschmidt I hope all of you have been enjoying the summer, which seems to be passing along much too quickly! We have had some great weather, other than the late night thunderstorms that often have required cutting of fallen trees and picking up debris. I am already seeing some color changes. Our fall dinner meeting is coming up Sept. 12 th. This promises to be an informative and enjoyable event, with free dinner for our members included. We will have plenty of information on the demo artists and shows scheduled for this fall. There will be a silent auction and time for socializing. We will have a brief presentation by our web wizard, Mary Buhl, with information to help everyone participate in our successful web site. We could use more people posting their art and announcements! We have new members to greet & votes to cast for Members Choice award. Hope you all can make it to Watab Town Hall. Kerry Kupferschmidt ONLINE Find Central Minnesota Watercolorists news and more at and on Facebook at Central MN Watercolorists
2 Our members are well represented at the State Fair art show and the North Star Watermedia National show. We will soon be preparing for November shows at Rivers Edge and our first $50 Sale at the Paramount. I realize some of you may not be ready to enter competitive shows. The great thing about Central Minnesota Watercolorists is that there are opportunities for all levels of artists to participate! Start with attending more demos and your confidence will continue to grow. Be adventurous and try new methods. One of my favorite quotes is by Pablo Picasso - Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth. For me a great reminder that artists often see things that many others may miss, or see them much differently. Face your fears and waste a few sheets of paper. Many of us enjoy the journey, even if the end result isn t what was expected. Looking forward to seeing you at the September meeting. Kerry CALENDAR SEP. 12, 2016 FREE CMW ANNUAL DINNER MEETING with a great dinner. Watab Town Hall th St. S. W., Sauk Rapids, MN Arrive 5:10 pm mingle and VOTE, dinner 6 pm. 4 SHOULD I DISPLAY MY CONTACT INFORMATION OR NOT WHEN I EXHIBIT? FYI-some venues require your name and contact on art you display card. 9 Call for new Officers Your Executive Board reorganized the terms of new officers to prevent future boards from having to start with all new members. The current Vice President, Linda Addicott and the Treasurer, Robyn York have both served one year longer than they originally agreed, to accommodate this system. It is time for two new people to step up and take their places. 1. The Vice President secures the demonstrators. We have an excellent list of artists for this officer AND the year 2017 is already started in advance. 2. The Treasurer manages the money, collects for exhibits and balances the books. 3. Your Board meets monthly at a location that is convenient to all or we carpool together. 4. The term is for two years beginning January We operate on a very supportive and friendly basis. I think we all would agree that this experience has been worthwhile and very satisfying. Please volunteer. PARAMOUNT EXHIBIT Aug. 1-26, 2016 Vote for your favorite painting using the ballot on the last page. Bring it to your FREE annual Dinner meeting Sept. 12, 2016 at 5:30 pm at the Watab Township Hall, th St. N. W., Sauk Rapids, MN The exhibit hangs thru Sep. 26, 2016.
