Clinical Research Employee Highlights Partner Resources News for the Research Community Clinical Trials Billing Office Charge Correction Policy Finalized The PRMO has posted a new Clinical Trials Billing Office Charge Correction Policy on the Enterprise Governance, Risk and Compliance Website (egrc). The policy defines the process for post billing charge adjustments for patient care charges related to clinical research activities within the Duke University Health System. Highlights of the policy include when to use the Research Correction Button versus submitting a Service Now Ticket, how to handle Duplicate Charges, Customer Service Requests and the acceptable timing of requests for corrections. Online Portal for Duke Research Community: myresearchhome The first release of myresearchhome, an online portal developed by the Office of Research Informatics, is now available for use by research staff and faculty across Duke. The features of the portal were determined with input from hundreds of people in Duke s research community, including those from the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and campus. Thanks to many of you who took part in that process. myresearchhome is funded by Duke s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and provides a single location for research-related tasks and information. This includes transparency into research finances, required training, and agreements. You can personalize it even further to save you time and effort. Features and

2 widgets will continue to be added and your feedback on priorities is always welcomed. Renewing LastPass Accounts Duke staff who have enrolled in the free, premium password manager offered by OIT, LastPass, are beginning to receive notice that their initial subscription to the premium account is expiring. Staff can go to and their premium subscription will automatically renew for an additional year. Staff who have not yet taken advantage of this Duke offered, very good password management solution can find additional details by selecting the LastPass tab on the main page of National CyberSecurity Awareness Month National CyberSecurity Awareness Month is coming in October and we hope to hear from you. Check out the new format of the joint ISO/ITSO security website at and let us know if you are interested in an on-demand security awareness session in your entity. If you schedule it, we will come. Research Involving Non-English Speaking Subjects The policy about research involving non-english-speaking subjects has been revised and posted on the DUHS IRB web site. For the use of a long form consent form in a foreign language, the IRB still requires forward and back translations of the consent form by two different translators, but the requirements around the qualifications of the translators have been relaxed. Please read the revised policy on the IRB s web site: REDCap Office Hours Rescheduled to September 15 th REDCap office hours occurring on Tuesday, September 13 th have been RESCHEDULED to Thursday, September 15 th at 11:00 am. REDCap users will meet with DOCR programmers in the Hock 9 th floor collaborative space, which is across the hall from the elevator area on the 9 th floor. 3 In preparation for the 2015 Maestro Care upgrade on September 11 th, we are currently in a Maestro Care build freeze. This means that no new build or changes to existing build can be moved to the Production environment until after the upgrade has been successfully implemented. DHTS leadership will evaluate the system daily after the upgrade goes live to determine when the freeze can be lifted. Virtual Town Hall September 27 th Dial in to a CTSA Virtual Town Hall to hear faculty and staff share how the Duke CTSA is helping to create Community-Ready Researchers and Research-Ready Communities. Launch of Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute On August 24 th, Duke University announced the launch of its newest institute: the Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute. This institute replaces the Duke Translational Medicine Institute. Clinical Research Appreciation Day Tuesday, October 11 th The annual DOCR sponsored Clinical Research Appreciation Day will take place in the Trent Semans Center Great Hall. Highlights of the event include information tables from administrative offices and groups involved in clinical research at Duke, door prizes and great food. This event is a great way to network with others in the Clinical Research community, learn about groups and services available to clinical researchers, and be appreciated for the great work you do in clinical research at Duke. Call for Applications The Duke CTSA Health Disparities Research Curriculum (HDRC) is now accepting applications for the session. The Health Disparities Research Curriculum was designed to raise awareness about health disparities research among junior investigators and to teach the skills required to incorporate principles of disparities research into their particular areas of research focus.
