We run from event to event, making calendar appointments, completing work tasks and trying hard to keep up with everything that we often forget to be grateful of what we have and enjoy the small things. I heard a term the other day that I would like to explore more: mindfulness. Download Our Free Resource FROM FILING TO FINALIZING: AN OVERVIEW OF THE WASHINGTON STATE DIVORCE PROCESS The exact translation for mindfulness involves awareness brought about by meditation; if you know me personally, you know that I have traditionally not been the meditating type. However, it is a goal for 2018 I hope to achieve. The mindfulness that I am talking about in referencing the awareness portion. When was the last time that you focused on just one thing? When was the last time that you had a cup of coffee and just enjoyed that cup, the flavor, the heat of the mug in your hands without reading the news or s? These days we constantly have our attention on a million things at once. Our minds not often present on current things that we are doing. Due to this, we rarely derive any happiness or pleasure from simple things in life that make our everyday, wonderful. 2 Subscribe Past Issues RSS I won t make this long, I know you have a million things to do (see what I did there?), but I am on a personal mission to increase peace and happiness in my life, or what I am now referring to as harmony, I would like to help my family, friends, colleagues and clients to achieve the same things! So, I propose: this week, while making your morning coffee, put your phone down, fold up the newspaper and simply enjoy that cup of coffee. Revel in that first sip all the way down to the bottom of the mug. Inhale the scent, savor the taste, breathe in deeply and be aware of your fifteen minutes of peace.and don t worry about everything else, after all, you will still have 1,425 minutes to take care of it all. FEATURED ARTICLE UNDERSTANDING THE EQUITABLE ALLOCATION OF ASSETS & DEBTS IN DIVORCE; AKA WHO GETS THE HOUSE AND THE 401K? Usually, one of the major concerns when beginning the divorce process is the division of marital assets and debts. Unless you situated a very thorough pre nuptial agreement, there will usually be disagreements. If you and your spouse cannot ultimately agree on a settlement, Washington Law requires that courts divide the marital estate in a way that is just and equitable. Do not be mistaken though, in this case, equitable does not mean equal, it typically means what is fair under the circumstances. 2/6

3 UPCOMING EVENTS & COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS Subscribe Past Issues RSS Something for the KIDS: Lea Hill Park, in Auburn, hosts a Summer Sounds and Cinema throughout the Summer. This event includes a couple local, live bands, a food truck for libations and sustenance, and once the sun sets, a movie projected onto a large screen. On Friday, August 4th, the movie of choice is one of my personal Disney favorite, Moana! There will be inflatable rides and a hands on art activity for the kids too! For more information, click here. Something for the ADULTS: We usually like to keep our events local to the South Sound but this one is a celebration for such a large landmark that we had to venture outside of our comfort zone. On August 18th Pike Place Market turns 110 years old! To celebrate this occasion, Pike Place holds the Sunset Supper with live music, dancing and a raffle of amazing prizes. This year s Sunset Supper will be hosted on the new MarketFront Plaza with gorgeous views of Mt. Rainier all the way to the Olympic Mountains.
