The Center Report Dianne Howe Dianne thanked the board and the chapters for their fundraising last year. She stated, The Guilds did a great job last year with their fundraising and once again the Chapters were amazing with their creativity and hard work. Thank you so much. The money is important, but also it means a lot to the Center s board of directors and staff to know that there are so many of you in our community that care enough about making the performing arts available to our community and the value of the Center s artistic, education and community engagement programs that you work so hard and consistently to raise money, to be ambassadors and bring new people to the Center. Thank you. Thank you. This year the Center has a great season of performances for everyone. Once again The Guilds Nights performances for Broadway and International Dance are on sale now. Please refer to the flyer for the performance dates and times and the expiration dates for the specific shows. This year The Guilds promo code has changed, to be sure to use the new one, And remember, these tickets are only sold through Group Services and not the regular box office nor can Dianne help you with Guilds Nights tickets. Please call the number ( ) at the bottom of the flyer or them at groups@scfta.org. She also distributed flyers (3 pages) about the KIA raffle. The Guilds Chapter that sells the most tickets will receive two tickets (TBD) to one of the performances this year to use as the Chapter wants (to thank someone or to use as a raffle item at a fund raiser, etc.). When the Chapter members distribute the flyers to ticket buyers, be sure to fill in the bottom line, How did you hear about the raffle? with the Chapter s name so we can keep track of each Chapter s sales. Also she distributed copies of a flyer about the Summer at the Center program from this summer. Please let her know if you want additional copies (she can send you a PDF) for your membership packets. Louise shared with Dianne a poster idea. The Center is sorry, but it can t place a poster in Samueli. The only posters are those showing the Center s season s line-up and theaters. The Center does and will continue to include The Guilds regularly in the programs and Revue magazine (always check the Photo Album. The communications department will also continue to pitch all Guilds stories and events that are open to the public, such as the Spring Celebration, Crescendo Chapter Celebrity Speakers Series, etc. However, you (the individual Guilds and Chapters) also need to offer their news and stories to your community publications. Jane and our press department will help, but it needs to begin with the chapter.

When you partner with merchants or restaurants, ask those companies to add The Guilds to their Facebook list and social media outreach. As individuals, hopefully you are sharing news with your friends via Facebook, Twitter, etc. Your poster has been given to Graphics to create standard ads that can be dropped into unused space in the programs. Thank you for continuing to think outside the box. North Central County Area Guild Barbara Benson, chairman Arthur Fiedler Chapter We are having our membership meeting this Sunday at the Benson s. Dessert and bridge are on the menu. Alla Gitana Chapter and Crescendo Chapter no report Huntington Harbor Area Guild Carol Kirkwood, chairman Flying Dutchman Chapter has a save the date notice out for the annual fundraiser which will be on Saturday, October 15, The theme is The Golden Age of Hollywood. We look forward to a festive evening of glitz and glamour at the beautiful home of Bob and Gail Sebring. Pas de Deux Chapter held their very successful fundraiser on June 11, 2016 at the Samueli Theater. It was a cocktail party featuring a raffle which included autographed copies of Misty Copeland s book, Life in Motion and pointe shoes signed by an ABT principal ballerina. The event was attended by 100 people and raised $11,000. Pas de Deux Chapter s next event is a Fall membership luncheon to be at the Shady Canyon Country Club on September 23, Their final event for the year will be at the full dress rehearsal of The Nutcracker, tentatively set for December 8, Laguna Area Guild Gail Berra, chairman Debussy - We will be returning once again to Polo in Rancho Santa Fe on September 4th and 11th. It is always a wonderful, relaxing day. Plans are underway for a fashion show in October, a visit to the Laguna Art Museum and of course, our Holiday luncheon. From the Wings From the Wings had a fun fundraiser on August 10, We went to Del Mar for the races. It was a beautiful day, we had a full bus, and we even had some winners. Sadly, I was not one of them, but everyone had a great time. On Wednesday September 14, 2016 we are having a Tea Party in Laguna Woods at Club House 3 at 12:00 o clock. We will have a lovely menu, and all are encouraged to wear their prettiest hat.

On October 20, 2016, we are heading down to San Diego to visit the USS Midway. We leave at 8:30 a.m. from Gate 3 and return about 5:00 p.m. On October 6, 2016, From the Wings and Debussy are collaborating on a luncheon/fashion show. The luncheon will be hosted by La Cuisine Culinary Arts in Macy s and the fashions will be by Talbots. This will take place in South Coast Plaza. Please save the date and look for further information. As you can see, we are keeping busy having fun at our Fundraisers! Mozart Chapter Mozart Chapter had one board meeting and one general meeting. We are ready for fall. Our speaker on August 10th was an architect who talked about the history of Laguna Niguel. He was very interesting! We have many new board members and they are excited about their new jobs. We have a fundraiser scheduled for September 30th at El Niguel Country Club. Our next general meeting will be October 12th. Our speaker will be Jason Holland, VP of Community Engagement at Segerstrom. South County Area Guild Isabell Messinger, chairman Beverly Sills Macy s Shop for a Cause is August 26-28, We sold 102 coupons for $510, yeah! Coupons will give holder an extra 25% off of most items, including sale items. We will be working a table at the Shop for a Cause event to promote: The Guilds, Beverly Sills and our Fashion Show which will be held on March 25, Richard Rogers discussed placing a Guilds ad in the Orange County Performing Arts School program. Newport Harbor Area Guild Kay Fukunaga, chairman As a Newport Harbor Area Guilds chair, I have not yet learned all of in-coming Chairmen of Chapters. I am planning to meet them soon. West County Area Guild Marty Olds, chairman Marty began her report with a general discussion of the role of Area Guild Chairman: The Area Guilds Chairman is the liaison between the Chapters and The Guilds Board. She is also the source of information and ideas flowing from the Board to the Chapters. She suggested that the Area Guild Chairman have an occasional informal get together with their respective Chapter Chairs to get to know each other and to exchange ideas. Also consider having a joint event combining their area chapters.

This a great way to work with and become acquainted with other Chapter members. The more we work together, the more we can produce, thus a more successful end result. Center Stage had a Clam Bake at Margaret Ann Vincent s last week. Center Stage has invited us to join them for their Christmas Boat Parade & Dinner at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club on December 15th. Cost $80 Stage Door Membership Party at Zov s in Newport Coast on September 11th. Carmen Chapter Malibu Getty trip October 5th, cost $75 West County Area event will be at the Duck Club in February. Roster Susan Kinkaid, chairman The work on The Guilds Roster for is underway. Information is still needed from some chapters, and Susan still has no information from Carmen Dragon. There is still time to make changes, if you have new information from your chapter. Susan would like to get the roster right the first time for the printing. I will be sending around a proofing sheet for your chapter. Please check it carefully to make sure all your information is correct. If there are future changes to the roster, these will appear in the minutes each month as necessary. Thank you. Website Louise Costa, chairman The Guilds website has been updated with the name, position and address for each of the board members. The Guilds website has been updated for all the chapters except for the following: Mozart, Carmen Dragon, and Richard Rogers. Louise has requested the information, but to date has not received it. All of The Guilds Board and Executive Committee meetings have been added to The Guilds Event Calendar on our website. All Guilds Night performances have been added to our website calendar including the deadline dates.

Louise will continue to post any chapter events on our event calendar and newsletters on the chapter pages. If you want them on our website, just send or Louise a copy. Informally Yours BJ Van Alstine, chairman On June 14, 2016, forty-five Guilds members and their guests along with other special invited guests of the Center attended Informally Yours for an evening to remember. A scrumptious buffet dinner, which included spare ribs, ratatouille, leafy green salad, potatoes, and dessert selections, was enjoyed by all. Included in the almost token price of $35 was red or white wine which was served as we entered and then generously poured during dinner. As we were finishing our meal, the performance began. Linda Purl, a world renowned singer, entertained a packed house to over an hour with a wide variety of musical selections from jazz, musical theater and contemporary genre. Samueli Theater was the perfect venue for this event, providing a very intimate setting where there wasn t a bad seat in the house. It was truly an evening to remember, thanks to the generosity of the Center. Children at the Center Eileen Cirillo, chairman Volunteers are needed from every chapter to assist the bus-in programs. Historian Bonne Wheeler, chairman Bonne is happy to take on the Historian s position this year. She has done it the past two years so is beginning to feel like a pro. All chapters need to send her a copy of their newsletter monthly in the mail. Bonne really appreciates it being sent because then she doesn t have to print out 20 newsletters each month. But she will take your newsletter any way she can get it. Bonne has been making a notebook each year with all the chapters newsletters. It is a good way to keep track of what activities each chapter is doing. If there is anything you would like to include in your chapter s notebook, please send it to Bonne and she will put it with your newsletter. Toys for Tots Linda Miller, chairman The dates for The Guilds of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts Annual Holiday Toy Drive are December 6 and 7. The toys collected are donated to the Marine s Toys for Tots program. The various chapters are requested to drop off their new, unwrapped toys at the Lobby from 10 am to 2pm.

The Marines have been contacted and a formal letter of request was sent yesterday to Gunnery Sergeant Alejandro Laredo. He was informed of the date and time of the annual Center Board Luncheon and of the request of two dress-uniformed Marines to attend and give a brief speech about the program. Linda is planning on creating a flyer to send to all the Chapters to promote participation in this great project. She understands approval from Jane King, Tim Dunn and Dianne Howe is required for all written materials to be circulated. PUBLIC RELATIONS JANE KING Publicity for all The Guilds events open to the public must be approved by Tim Dunn and Dianne Howe before they are advertised. Send your brochures, invitations, etc. first to Jane King. Her job is to review them and then forward them to Tim and Dianne. These events include Crescendo s Celebrity Lecture Series, the Spring Celebration, Toys for Tots, etc. When in doubt, contact Jane janesking@sbcglobal.net. Thanks. Bylaws Terry Thacker is working on revisions for two chapters. In Store Fundraisers Mary Shebell, chairman Talbots and L Occitane en Provence South Coast Plaza, Bear St., 2nd Floor Tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 17, 2016, for 3 hours from 3-6 pm, 10% of sales go to The Guilds. We can pre-shop at Talbots and they will ring up the sale on that day. Mary needs a letter of introduction from The Guilds for the manager of L Occitane who will do 10% of sales and will include appetizers and minifacials. She is considering returning to Tory Burch and Bloomingdales. Tory Burch was in September last year, but too late to promote for Mary will explore events at Sur La Table and David Yurman. She would like feedback from The Guilds members to see which stores are most popular and time of year for events that won t conflict with The Guilds events.

Carousel of Possible Dreams No report. Shari Cipolla, chairman Adjournment at 12:30 Respectfully submitted by Jane King for Judy Kelley.
