3 The Guilds of the Center Creates Buzz COSTA MESA - The Guilds of Segerstrom Center for the Arts Membership Event on Thursday, September 8 at the Mesa Verde Country Club was an unqualified success. Over 110 Performing Arts Lovers including both current and prospective members of The Guilds, showed up to find out more about The Guilds and their support role for Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Welcoming remarks were delivered by the chairman of the event, Pat Faust, followed by such luminaries as Gail Daniels, Chairman of The Guilds, who spoke about the history of The Guilds and Carol Wilken, Center Board Vice Chairman of Support Groups, who addressed Orange County s vision for a music center just like that of our neighbors to the north. At the time, Orange County was still very much agrarian but that didn t stop those dreamers! Attendees heard from Gail Sugamura, Principal of Stanley Elementary School, who enthralled all with her recounting of what the Disney Musical Programs meant to students at her school. Her audience responded with chuckles and tears. They heard from Sandy Bass, Parliamentarian of The Guilds, who addressed other important education and community programs which Segerstrom Center originates and The Guilds supports in important ways. Finally, Sandra Hovanesian, Membership Chairman of The Guilds, delivered closing remarks to encourage prospective members to join one of the nation s most respected Guilds supporting an internationally acclaimed arts institution. She talked about the pride of affiliation, meeting like-minded, theater-going friends, special ticket offers for performances, prime seating with invitations to exclusive Guilds and Center events. With the help of Pat Faust, Sandra awarded raffle prizes - tickets to Beautiful, The Carole King Musical and American Ballet Theatre s holiday performance of The Nutcracker. Enthusiasm was palpable in the room as the meeting broke up. Everyone was engaged in talking about all they had heard. Organizing committee members were pleased as prospective members mixed with current members and explored their options of choosing which of the 21 chapters to join which one best met their needs and interests. Pat Hello Carmen Members. Our first meeting was at Ruby s downtown Orange. Then a trip to the Hubert Museum across the street to see California art. It was a fun day. Great food and an interesting art museum. Glad so many of you made it there. October 5th we re off on our bus trip to the Getty Villa in Malibu. Our big fundraiser, and fun times. Still a few seats left if anyone is interested. Then in November Carmen members are invited to the new Farmhouse restaurant for Lunch and a Fall Plants Seminar at Rogers Gardens in Newport Beach. We have wonderful monthly events planned for all of you throughout the year and hopefully more trips to great places.
