2 Presidential Musings February 2015 President s Report Well Australia Day was celebrated by our Probus Club with to be expected pageantry, dignity and festivity. We sang the anthem joyfully, the words on the screen helped here but the second verse surprised some. We listened to the paeans of praise loyally and the cavalry charge to the food table outperformed the hordes of Genghis Khan. I thought for a moment we would need our new Risk Management Policy to sort out the possible mangled remains of slowcoaches from the carpet. Only a few bruises were suffered but please watch it next time people those carpets are hard to clean. The trip to the Kingscliff Cinema was a pleasant afternoon, even though the movie was a chick flick that left all the males attending wondering what the heck it was all about. Lorna B was excited over seeing her favourite movie star Colin Firth but at the end of the movie she was considering changing her mind. I have suggested that she watch Kingsman: Secret Service. Colin will be back in her good books after seeing him in this. Nominations for the new management committee are still required. We need: a Vice President (either male or female, will be fine and we won t hold you to being president in 2017), a Treasurer, Activities Organiser/s and GCNR representative (the representative will not need to attend MC meetings if he/she doesn t want to). Remember NO COMMITTEE NO CLUB! It s all now in your hands. And the Ides of March are not far away. All for now. JJG Bogo Road Jail April activity. Fish & Chips or BBQ evening on the beach Date TBA. There are a few cars there that are collector items now!! The answer for January s Newsletter cover beach trivia was Currumbin Beach. The rock where Vikings/surf club now exists was a dead giveaway, right? pg. 2

Happy Birthday for the following in February, Norma Bickell, Sue Lawler, Pam Ryan and George Trussler. Membership For our new Probus year, we have so far about 85% renewals, with no doubt more to come at our next meeting, which will bring our Current Total to 54 Members. We are pleased to welcome a new Member, Shirley Tereanu-Rau, who is experience I m sure, will be an asset to our Club. We have another six persons on our waiting list, so this year looks good for recruitment. Any Members who would like to join a very successful Trivia Team, at Club Robina on a Thursday night, can get details from Leigh Farrell, or Shirley Trussler Cheers David Gross Speakers Barry Purvis The guest speaker February 2015 will be Andy Halinon who will speak about Life Writing. Life writing is the recording of selves, memories and experiences, whether one's own or another's. This applies to many genres and practices, under which can be found autobiography, biography, memoir, diaries, letters, testimonies, personal essays and, more recently, digital forms such as blogs and . Life writing can also be linked with genealogical study: when recording one's life it is common to become curious about the lives of others that have affected one over time and, if they have not recorded their own life, to start doing it for them. We haven't met yet! I don't trip over things; I do random gravity checks! The biggest lie I tell myself is... "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it." Lord, grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the friends to post my bail when I finally snap! My people skills are just fine. It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work. Teach your daughter how to shoot, because a restraining order is just a piece of paper. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees. The kids text me "plz" which is shorter than "please." I text back "no" which is shorter than "yes". I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do the second week. Even duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound! Why do I have to press one for English when you're just gonna transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway? Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice. pg. 4

5 At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came in there for. Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes; and then come out wrinkle free and three sizes smaller!
