1 Issue President s Message Dear Zontians, If you did not go to the induction for our Fearless Female Z Club you missed quite an event. It was fabulous! The young ladies were just wonderful, excited and truly eager to be a part of Zonta. Their president, Miryam Perez gave quite an inspirational speech and I don't think I was the only one impressed by her. Can I just say WOW! We are so lucky to have them as our Z Club. Thank you Helen Ross, Dr. Cheryl McCarthy, Kristine Schlismann, and Mary Baudino for all of the hard work and assistance in getting the Z Club started and for the wonderful induction ceremony. Don't forget that we are not having a regular dinner meeting at Al's. Instead we will be meeting on Tuesday, 8 at Mama Onesta's in Lockport for our Holiday Party. And don't forget to bring your white elephant. Due to the holidays we will not be having a board meeting in. Our next regular dinner meeting will be January 12, 2016 at Al's Steakhouse. Happy Holidays! Yolanda Reyes, President Calendar of Events Tuesday, 8, 2015 Holiday Party 5:30pm Mamma Onesta s Italian Restaurant 1100 S. 2 Zonta Club of Joliet President, Yolanda Reyes and Z Club Fearless Females President, Miryam Perez Congratulations to our new Z Club Fearless Females Inducted Wednesday, November 18, 2015 From the Membership Committee Membership would like to welcome Catherine Adamowski, Susan Klen, Sandy Petersen, Samantha Quero. Advocacy Committee Dale Snow and Donna Zanzola, Co- Chairs From the Advocacy Committee Zonta clubs worldwide support the United Nations "16 Days of Activism" to build awareness of domestic violence against women. The campaign runs from November 24th to 10, and our committee has two events planned to support the effort. On Friday 4th, Donna Zanzola and Inez Kutlesa, CEO of Guardian Angel Community Services will address the issues facing agencies serving domestic abuse victims since the budget impasse in the state of Illinois. Listen in on Friday 4th at 8:22 a.m. on the Scott Slocum show on WJOL 1340am With board approval, we will also ask all members attending the 8th Holiday Party to sign four prepared letters to state officials and legislators. The letter will urge our legislators to resolve the budget impasse and restore adequate funding to agencies providing safe harbor and support services for domestic abuse victims and their families. Many agencies have either closed or reduced services and staff. If you do no know your appropriate legislators, a listing by area will be available for you to address the envelopes. Your voters card will also have the information you need. Members of the Advocacy Committee will hand out and collect the letters so they can be mailed with the '16 Days of Activism" timeline. Thank you for supporting the United Nations efforts to make the world a safer place for women. 2
