Our thanks go to former student Eliza Moskalewicz for designing this for us, and especially for doing so over your summer break! Well done! Saturday, March 22 12:30p.m to 7 p.m. Key Dates: 9 a.m. Friday February 7, 2014 Craft Meeting see article on page 4 7 p.m. Wednesday February 12, 2014 Fete Meeting see article on page 2 The countdown is now on for our fun filled fete, so put the date of March 22 in your diary now! It s going to be a cracker of a day, and is a great opportunity for the whole school community to come together and have some fun. February Days to go! The fete is also a very important fundraiser for the school, providing funds for facilities around our beautiful school that are not otherwise funded by government departments. This year, a portion of the amount raised will be allocated to enhance provision and quality of resources for students, e.g. Literature sets, ICT, sports equipment, maths equipment and the enhancement of school facilities. So come along, get involved! You ll feel great, your kids will be excited that you are helping out, and they will get the benefits from the funds raised! It can t happen without the support of parents, so don t reply on others stepping up to the plate step up with them and make the mammoth task of organising and running a fete easier for us all! Don t be daunted! You will be asked to contribute lots of things to the fete over the coming weeks, but you personally don t have to contribute everything we request! But please contribute what you can. If we all contribute something, just imagine what a great event we can create together! 1

2 Stall Coordinators Thank you to all of you who have already put your hands up to be Stall Coordinators. The response has been fabulous. However, we still require Stall Coordinators for the following stalls: J Ticket Booth J Donuts J Tattoos J Devonshire Tea J Lucky Dip J Lob-A-Choc J Toys J Pasta If you would like to volunteer, or would like more information about the role before you do, please contact one of the fete committee listed at the bottom of this notice. And remember, you don t have to do it alone get a friend involved and share the role! Thanks also go out to Nick Conroy, Hamish Stevenson and Scott Armistead who have all volunteered to assist with the electrical setup. Thanks guys! Fete Meeting We will be holding the first whole of School fete meeting at 7.00pm on Wednesday February 12, 2014 in the school library. The purpose of these meetings is to meet with the stall coordinators for a Q & A session, to discuss their volunteer requirements and their stall specific needs. We would also like to demonstrate the volunteer database program designed by Tim. We d love to see you there! Don t want to be a stall coordinator? So you don t want to be a stall coordinator, and you re not a sparky? Perhaps one of these jobs is for you then: On fete day, we are having Travelling Salespeople moving around on Travelling the oval selling popcorn, drinks and fairy floss. You even get a bright Salesperson coloured vest to wear! Get in quick as this is sure to be a big selling point for this volunteer position! Food Runners First Aiders Bartender We need some volunteers willing to move between the food stalls and the refrigerator, collecting and delivering supplies to the food stalls as required. You will also get a brightly coloured vest, though it is more likely to be the fluro safety coloured type! Perhaps you can t move much we have the perfect job for you sitting next to the fridge with a key, dispensing supplies to the runners. You can have a vest if you want! This year we are selling commemorative fete wine, and we need someone with a Responsible Serving of Alcohol certificate. Do you fit the bill? You don t get a vest! Alternatively, if you are a bit of a wine buff and would like to be involved in organising the selection of the wines we will sell and organising the wine drive, please contact the committee. Consider yourself a star with a sling and a bandit with a bandage? Do you have a Level 3 First Aid Certificate? Great, call the committee and volunteer to be a first aider on fete day! 2 Gee whiz, so much to do! See why we need your help! 2

3 Raffle Tickets Raffle tickets will soon be on sale, with the first prize being a $2,000 Red Balloon voucher. Proceeds from raffle tickets form a major portion of the fete profit, so we rely on families to sell as many tickets as they can. Call on friends, family, neighbours, the neighbour s dog we are not fussy who you sell them to! Just sell those tickets and add to the fete coffers! Online Volunteer Register This year volunteering will be made so much easier thanks to a fabulous computerised Volunteer Register program designed by parent and school council president Tim Stutchbery. You ll just tap on the button on the school website, click on the stall and time you want and voila! How easy is that??? Thanks Tim! This year we are allocating classes to look after particular stalls, but if you also want to volunteer on an alternative stall you are obviously more than welcome! We will let you know when the program is up and running, and when we have allocated the classes. Stall Contributions JAM For all you jam and chutney makers don t forget there are jars for you to use in the school reception. Feel free to help yourselves. And for you non-cooks out there, please donate your clean used jars to the cause! TRASH N TREASURE Hopefully over the holidays you have been tidying out your cupboards and have a garage full of good quality stuff to donate. No? Oh well, you still have about 6 weeks to do so get cracking! TOYS So Santa has provided enough toys to restock the toy boxes, and those children who you thought would never grow up have outgrown the box s current contents? No problem, send all the old unbroken toys our way! Remember, no McDonald s toys, and if you could give your toys a bit of a clean before you donate them, that would be fabulous! BOOKS Spread the word, good quality books and magazines required! This is a popular stall, often with queue at the door prior to the fete opening. Now is the time to cull your old books from your bookshelves are you ever really going to read them again? Go on, donate them and get a warm fuzzy feeling! STAGE AUCTION ITEMS Do you have new items suitable for the stage auction? Or do you know of businesses willing to offer vouchers for goods or services to be auctioned? If so, please contact the committee! 3

4 Face Painting Another year is upon us and again we are looking for volunteers to help us with our fantastic face painting stall. We are looking for people with or without experience as we will offer some training sessions in the coming weeks. We also need some volunteers to help with money taking, if painting is not your thing. Please me, Kylie Sandow (mum of Zac 3DH and Maddy 2BC), Don t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions either my phone is Colouring Competition Kids get your pencils, crayons, glue, sequins and feathers ready! The Carnivale Colouring Competition is on the way! It is a colouring competition with a difference..can you guess what it might be??? Stay tuned, we ll tell you soon! The Craft Stall is Moving Hint: It has something to do with something that goes on your face! The Fete Craft Stall is rolling a little differently in 2014, taking inspiration from a different setting. This year the intent is to meet up every few weeks in the APPS school Art Room, which Janet George has kindly allowed us to use for craft-making exploits. So, if you are tempted to find out more about the Fete Craft Stall, please join us this Friday 7 Feb 2014 at 9am in the APPS Art Room, near the school library, for coffee and a chat mostly chat. If you are new to APPS, we look forward to meeting you and any inventive craft ideas you may have. You can be involved by simply donating useful raw craft product or you can go crazy at home making things to donate for the Craft Stall to sell on fete day. All profit goes to APPS and helps maintain our lovely school. We appreciate all donations and helpful hands.
