Please find enclosed some information about our available opportunities. There are many volunteering roles with Age Cymru Swansea Bay, all of which help older people, either directly or indirectly in the City and County of Swansea. Please note; all our volunteers will need to complete mandatory safeguarding vulnerable adults training. Other training will be available, depending on your chosen role. 3 Volunteering at Age Cymru Swansea Bay Age Cymru Swansea Bay appreciates the contribution that volunteers offer the charity and to our volunteer movement as a whole. Purpose of volunteering Age Cymru Swansea Bay involves volunteers in all our projects, whether it s providing direct or indirect support to older people in our local community. Volunteers assist paid staff in delivering services to people aged 50+, which enables them to remain independent as long as possible. Volunteering isn t just a one way street; there are many benefits to those who volunteer; this included increased confidence through gaining new skills and meeting new people and having hands on experience in the health and social care & charity sector. 4 Volunteering Opportunities Befrienders Become a professional befriender and visit lonely clients A key part of the role is providing a link between the client and the staff team to enable us to successfully monitor our client s health and well-being. As and When befrienders To transport clients to medical appointments when required and to visit clients in their own home when a visiting volunteer is unavailable. Bridging the Gap Volunteer- Hospital Discharge Team Promote the Hospital Discharge project to patients in Singleton, Morriston and Cefn Coed Hospital. You will offer emotional support to the client whilst in hospital and upon discharge for up to 6 weeks. Advice and Information Team Work with our exciting front line services and provide advice and information to our clients who attend our office or contact us via telephone. You will provide advice and information on a range of topics which affect the daily lives of people 50+. It the older people s Google! Housing Volunteer Provide housing advice to people who are looking for support with moving house. Offer administrative support to the project by contacting previous clients by telephone to ascertain whether their outcomes have been successfully reached, and record this data on our computerised system. Photo copy and make up housing packs for new clients. Welfare Benefit Volunteer To help maximise the income available to people, aged 50+ living in the City and County through completing complicated benefit forms on the client s behalf whether it s through home or office visits. Every penny Counts Are you over 50 and out of work? Do you live in the Townhill, City Centre or Penderry area? Do you want to gain skills to get back into work and make a difference to people s lives? Our Every penny count project helps people with debt, savings and benefits advice and we need volunteers to promote our project and provide administrative support to our paid staff.

5 Handyperson The Home Services Handy Person Volunteer works as part of the Home Services Team, enabling older people in the City and County of Swansea to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible by providing a low-level maintenance (DIY) services. We have a new partnership with Grwp Gwalia and a number of their housing complexes. This runs over Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Ystradgynlais. Volunteer Advocate The project provides support to the most vulnerable people in society, to give a voice to those who are not being heard. Provide independent support and representation to those who are facing major life changing decisions or are risk of abuse. This project runs over Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend. Digital Advocate To support clients by demonstrating the benefits of using the internet to overcome loneliness and social isolation e.g. Skype, You tube and Google search. Home Digital Volunteers Teach clients to use a computer, show them how to create word documents and attach them to s. Financial Digital Inclusion volunteer Volunteers will be expected to teach/coach clients how to use online financial services that will include online banking, using auction sites, shopping online and comparison sites. Click and Collect Shopping Volunteer To collect groceries from participating supermarkets and deliver them to the clients home. Discuss next week s shopping list and go through some healthy recipes. Administrative Volunteer To provide administrative support to all our projects including our central admin team and to take telephone calls and pass messages on to project staff. Fundraising Be part of the team to help raise invaluable funds for the charity through various means and come up with new fundraising ideas. Marketing Help promote the services of Age Cymru Swansea Bay through attending events, handing out leaflets and doing talks to the general public.

6 No matter what role you undertake with Age Cymru Swansea Bay, we ask that all our volunteers have the following attributes: Have an empathy and understanding of the issues that affect older people Are able to communicate effectively with older people Are non-judgemental Are reliable and dependable Are willing to undertake mandatory safeguarding of vulnerable adult training before starting and every two years after. Attend any other training as necessary Are willing to complete and maintain accurate written records and report back to project supervisor Are willing to be subject to an Enhanced DBS check (formally CRB police check) Are friendly and enjoy working as part of a team To carry out your tasks in a way which reflects the aims and values of the charity Always work within the agreed policies and procedures of ACSB Trustees Do you have skills and experience in Voluntary work, administration, finance, personnel, business planning? Do you want to make a difference in your community? If so, then why not join the Board of Trustees? We aim to appoint new Trustees at the Annual General Meeting every autumn. Age Cymru Swansea Bay is looking for Trustees from people with a range of skills and experience who have integrity, commitment, good common sense, judgement and who value older people. As a Trustee, you will work with other Trustees in governing the affairs of the Charity, determining strategy and policy and ensuring that the work of Age Cymru Swansea Bay remains relevant to older people.
