2 About Willow Wood Willow Wood Hospice is based in Ashton Under Lyne and we are here for all the people living in Tameside & Glossop. We provide a wide variety of services to patients and their families with the aim of making a difference to the lives of those living with a life limiting illness. We have a 12 bedded In-Patient Unit complete with the latest innovations in patient care, providing specialist palliative care to those with complex needs or reaching the end of life. Treating people with dignity and respect and ensuring that they are comfortable and pain free. We also have a START Clinic (Support, Treatment, Assessment, Rehabilitation & Therapy) offering a range of treatments like; Physiotherapy, Complementary Therapies, Being Active Groups, Emotional Support, Creative Therapies, Pamper Sessions, Hydro Therapy, Dementia Service and lots more Willow Wood has a huge team of volunteers, they are essential to the Hospice. Without our volunteers there would not be a Willow Wood! In 2016 they were awarded the Queen s Award for Voluntary Services, an award equivalent to an MBE for individuals. It costs around 2.3million a year to continue our specialist care and we do not charge for ANY of our services, something we are very proud of. Over 75% of that figure has to be raised within our community. We have 8 High Street shops, our own Lottery and we pack in a huge variety of fundraising events throughout the year. Many people, groups and organisations run their own fundraising activities too. Over the last year we helped around 2300 new local patients. Assuming each person had 10 close relatives or friends then Willow Wood touched the lives of over 23,000 local people. This is roughly 10% of the Tameside population. This would not have been possible without such tremendous support.

Many young people and schools already help raise money for the hospice which is well needed and much appreciated. We want to give something back, to say THANK YOU and to build on our community relationships and partnerships. We want young people to enjoy fundraising for their local hospice, understand the value of helping other people and feel proud of their achievements. We have created a series of Shining Stars awards based on how much your school, class, year, group or organisation can raise for Willow Wood. This can be based on a one off event or activity or could be funds raised over a period of time.
