3 1. Introductions Everybody said who they were to the group. Adam did an ice-breaker 2. SEN Update Pam Beaumont is the project officer for special education needs reforms. Pam told the group about the changes to the Children and Families Act. The changes start in September Pam told us about what we ve learnt so far. It has taken a long time to develop. The government has given us money to help. We have asked 7 families if they like it. There will be 3 new members of staff to help. We would like to have Mediators by September. Pam will keep us informed with regular updates 3
4 3. Peoples Cabinet The Peoples Cabinet have done a survey to ask people about where they live. Some people do not like where they live. There will be help for people to decide where they want to live. Halton Housing Trust are coming to a meeting in the future. Mal Hampson told everyone about the 3 Themes Day. Lots of people enjoyed the day. There will be another event in December. 4. Minutes from the last meeting Halton ALD met with Jeff Briggs and Steve Eastwood. They talked about transport for carers. It was a good meeting. 4
5 5. Burning Issues The Peoples Cabinet will talk about this at the next meeting. 6. Housing John Williams talked about housing. We want to give people choice about where they live. It is hard for people to find a new home. We want to support people to find the right home. and 5 Boroughs Parnership are working together. John will give regular updates. 5
6 7. Bright Sparks Kitemark 8. Byron Inpatient Update Bright Sparks look at lots of different venues in Halton. They visit shops and community centres. They award a kite mark when they find a good place to go. The Council of Disabled Children want to use our idea. They have employed 1 support worker and 2 young people to help. A list of the venues is on Halton Speak Out Facebook. More people are using the Byron unit. 10 people have used Byron in 1 year. The Byron unit has helped people get the right care. 6
7 9. Joint Health and Social Care Learning Disability Self Assessment Framework Halton have a very good score. It is like a traffic light. We have 13 green 14 Amber and no reds. They are working on a report for this year. 10. Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Helen told us about Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. It is a new law. It is to protect people who need care. Lots of people in Halton will be assessed. Helen will give updates in future. 7
8 11. Any other Business John Williams and Mal Hampson are doing a survey. They will ask if people want to be called service users. Mal Hampson told us about the Safe in Town project. There are 61 shops in the scheme in Runcorn. The are 12 shops in the scheme in Widnes. Leanne Dillon said CIC could help. There will be a stall at the Vintage Rally. They are looking for some money to fund the scheme. The team at the Bridges had a course about staying safe and healthy. Lisa Birtles-Smith told us about the Big Health Day. Its on 19th September. 8
