2 BOARD CHAIR & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara Falls has long been the leading youth mentoring organization in our community. Every year, hundreds of children and youth in Niagara Falls benefit from a relationship with a caring volunteer mentor. Our mentors advise and challenge these young people, act as their champions, provide greater consistency in their lives, connect them to broader experiences, opportunities and networks, and provide safe, nonjudgmental environments in which these young people can confide anything. In 2017, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara Falls continued to expand, innovate, and positively impact the lives of children and youth in our community. Some key accomplishments included: * Thanks to the Branscombe Family Foundation, we were able to launch a pilot program in partnership with Strive Niagara. Student Parent Mentoring For Success will provide volunteer mentors for adolescent mothers involved with Strive Niagara. * In November, we welcomed volunteers from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada as we went through our accreditation process. Our accreditors had an opportunity to review all of our match files, speak to community volunteers, and to speak with staff and board. We are pleased to report that we received a very high grade for the work done at our agency. We couldn t continue to lead in the area of youth mentoring without the support of our many volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of our programs, our Nearly New Store, our fundraising efforts, and our board of directors. Thank you! Volunteers don t necessarily have the time; they have the heart. ~Elizabeth Andrew Respectfully submitted: J O D I H E N D E R S O N Board Chair J O N B R A I T H W A I T E Executive Director

6 GET INVOLVED! VOLUNTEER! At Big Brothers Big Sisters we create individual and group mentoring relationships among adults and youth. Mentorship is a two-way, learning and development partnership where the young person is placed at the centre. Our mentors advise and challenge young people, act as their champions, provide greater consistency in their lives, connect them to broader experiences, opportunities and networks, and provide safe, nonjudgmental environments in which the child or youth can confide anything. Imagine who they will become because of you!

7 MATCH MAKERS LET'S KEEP MAKING MATCHES! A Match Maker makes it possible for children and youth to be matched with a caring mentor or participate in an in-school mentoring program. A Match Maker believes that by changing the course of a young life we can in turn change the course of a community s future. We proudly have more children matched with mentors, and have more programs in local schools, than at any point in our organizational history. Support local youth by becoming a monthly donor! We need support from our community. Your monthly gift will make it possible for children and youth to continue to be matched with caring mentors, participate in in-school mentoring programs and allow Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara Falls to support future matches at no cost to the volunteer mentor and mentee. Consider a monthly gift to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara Falls, because you believe that opening a child s eyes to what is opens their mind to what could be. For information about becoming a Match Maker, contributing a onetime donation or volunteering please visit niagarafallsmentors.org Stay
